When the girl finished her stretches, she looked over to me, before walking over to her spears. She handed one to me and said,"Better than being unarmed". I grab the spear in one hand and flip it under my arm, point down. She noddes and starts walking.
With the thick canopy there is very little light, and all the trees are black in color, making it look like night. As we keep walking I decided to ask her some questions. Since we are trying to find the monsters, she isn't very concerned about being loud.
Learning about the history of the world is a little boring, but it is very helpful. We are currently on the continent of Efto-site, which home to the largest dungeon, taking up the entire center. The dungeon has the effect of killing everything around it, while making itself stronger. This lead to the entire continent being useless for agriculture.
In spite of this, the king of Colfet and the president of Vanier are at the edge of war over Efto-site because of the available minerals and mines, along with the trees. The Black wood trees burn great, but are also very strong, making for both fire and carpentry material. Efto-site is, when placed on a map, north-northeast, with Vanier to the south of it, and Colfet to the west.
In total, there are only 4 dungeons in the world, one in Efto-site, one in Vanier, one in Colfet, and one on the frozen peninsula, which, although is connected to Vanier, is cursed, making the dungeon inaccessible. Another important part of the world is the existence of monster-people, or halfbreeds. The president of Vanier has, however, made it illegal for them to live there.
As we keep walking around, I realize I never got her name. "I never caught your name." I say to her, making her stiffen slightly. She seems contemplative for a moment, before saying "Fein"(fane). "And you?" Coming up with an answer on the spot, "Hunter". Not the best name, but not bad.
We keep walking for a while and eventually run into something. At least 8 feet tall, it carries around a large tree trunk, and has light grey skin. From what I can tell, the weaker monster will try to blend in with the environment, while the stronger ones usually stand out more. Seeing the large size, I start thinking. 'It's probably slow, and the large weapon will be hard to move. If we can trip it, this will be easy. It has two eyes, unlike a cyclops, so blinding it won't be easy.'
I look over and see Fein watching the monster as well, before pointing to me, the legs, herself, and the head. Understanding her, I get ready to run at it, adrenaline starting to pump.
When she waves her hand forward, I dash towards it. As I get closer, I see that my guess was off, being almost 9 feet tall. I rush to it's foot, catching it's attention, and stab down as hard as I can. Being confused from the sudden attack, the monster roars in pain, and I remove the spear. It starts to move it's foot up, before stomping on me. I push the spear into the ground and roll away, hearing the monster's foot land by my head.
'Close' I think, and watch as the monster falls over. Fein runs out and jumps onto the head, stabbing an eye. I watch in astonishment as her spear start to glow, almost completely destroying the head. She jumps down and says "Could have been better, but it worked". I look at her for a minute, before grabbing her shoulders "How did you do that?!" Confused by my reaction, her face changes to understanding as she remembers my amnesia.
"I'll teach you later" she says, with a slightly flushed face. She turns around and walks over to the corpse, and starts removing something from the head. She pulls out a crystal about the size of my hand, and gives it to me. "Use this. You need it more than me." Confused as to what she means, I look down at the crystal, causing my screen to appear. (Would you like to absorb stat orb (world bound)?) That pretty much proves that I can go to multiple worlds. I mentally pick yes, and the crystal turn to dirt in my hand, and I feel a rush of power enter me.
(Adding one point to mana)
Seeing this, I pull up my stats, and am slightly disappointed.
STR:6 AGI:5 CON:5 MP:1 HP:10
Seeing my MP at 1, I remember that I didn't have any mana in the world I come from. I don't remember any personal memories, but I know general knowledge. I look over to Fein and walk towards her, ready to leave. As soon as I reach her side, I hear a small bell sound in my ear, and see that the cool down for Return has ended.
I decided to stay longer so I can learn more about mana. We start walking, and keep walking for a few hours. 'I can see why she is a professional' As I'm panting from exertion and sweating buckets, she doesn't look even slightly tired. 'She must have high constitution'. Seeing me so tired, she says "We will stop here for now" and sits at the base of a tree. I sit across from her, and catch my breath, thankful for the rest.
After I'm not dieing, I look over and ask her "so how does this mana work?" She leans forward slightly and starts to teach me.
"Mana is a power source in the air that can be stored inside of the body. The higher your mana stat, the more mana you can control and store. The easiest way to increase your mana stat is by stat crystals, but you can also try mana breathing.
Mana works by using your mind to control it, and it is easier to use mana that has been inside your mana store. Mana from the mana store can be mixed with mana in the air for larger spells, but doing so is mentally draining."
I ask Fein about the mana breathing, and she explains it. "By gather enough mana in your lungs at one time, you have a chance to increase your mana stat. This can also be used to refill your mana store instead of letting it passively refill. The chance of there being enough mana in one place for mana breathing to work is quite low, so most people don't try. It also requires pure mana, meaning it can't come from another person. Mana breathing techniques have you sit in a meditative stance, and take long, slow breaths to increase the chances of success. However, even if you do get enough mana in one breath, the chances of increasing the stat is still low, at most 5%"
