MISS COLD GAZE

It was the perfect opportunity for the desperate Oriel. "The cancer in my body is going to take me earlier from this world. All of this is the punishment I am getting for my sins. However, it looks like a blessing has been mistakenly delivered to me by the heavens, that's you," said the leader of a drug mafia gang, a victim of Oriel's charms. She also didn't think twice before accepting his proposal, more like an offer that was to get her immense fortune in return. "I will make sure that your remaining days will be filled with happiness." She promised the dying boss and agreed live as his mistress. She knew that he had a wife and that the relation only existed on a piece of paper. Her name was Ursula, feisty and savage spouse of the dying mafia leader, Mr. Bruce. "Let him have that young girl as a last token of joy in his numbered days. But, I want you to keep her in close scrutiny because she also has her eyes set on his wealth. See to it that she never gets what she wants." Heartbroken Ursula ordered Collin, the loyal brother of Mr. Bruce. He was appointed as a personal bodyguard for his boss's mistress, "I will be following you everywhere from now on, you will have to bear with me because your safety is now a matter of concern for my boss." Oriel refused his company with a stern denial. "Don't tell me that you are still awkward around me, it has been years," but who knew that they shared a tragic past and a passion so deep. "Take my everything in return of your love. Just never betray me, and if you do, be meticulous hiding it," reminded her of Mr.Bruce.

A New Job

She worked as a kindergarten teacher; had no family of her own to receive support from and to make the hole bigger in her already impoverished umbrella, Bella was also there. Things were tough and getting fired from her job meant that she was in dire need for another source of income.

"I have been working here since years now and you know better than anyone else that I can never do such a thing," she begged her senior, in an effort to save her job.

"Oriel!... if it was in my hands I wouldn't let you leave, trust me. But it's all those parents who saw that damn packet of cocaine with you, they are all on my heads, asking me to fire you. I am very sorry dear."

Her senior didn't stay another second to listen her request and left Oriel alone there. "Now, what do I do?" she breathed.

Oriel walked out of her office, stressing over the problem of finding herself a new job. She began to regret abandoning the chance to win the heart of Mr. Bruce.

"He is clearly into me; I shouldn't have thought too much about his marriage; he is a billionaire."

She was on her path outside, lamenting about the choice she made, when suddenly a lady came to her with a toddler holding her hand.

"Hello, Miss Oriel!" she greeted.

Oriel had to collect her wandering thoughts and look at the lady for a few seconds to recall who she was. "How are doing, Mrs Anita?" She looked at the little girl two feet below her normal view. "How is my little Bonnie?"

"I'm fine, Miss," said Bonnie.

"I heard about what happened yesterday and I want to tell you that I believe in you no matter what," Mrs. Anita told her. "I want you to hold your spirits, everything will be fine."

To this, Oriel could only lower her eyes and silently take in the embarrassment; she despised receiving consolations from other and hated the times when others looked at her with pity in their eyes. "I have no words to thank you for this support; it means a lot for me," said Oriel. "I'll be on my way then."

She was about to take a step when Mrs. Anita stopped her. "I have a job for you if you are interested."

The sentence came as a soothing melody to her tensed mind. She immediately inquired further. "Umm... I would like to hear more."

"It's not a permanent job but I will promise you a good pay for this," said Mrs. Anita. "I am going to London this week and won't be back for a couple of months and I need someone to take care of Bonnie at home. It won't be much of a work, just taking care of her during day until my husband gets off work."

She didn't think for a mere second and affirmed to take the job. "I will do that." She knew that Mrs. Anita and her husband were not an ordinary family and the pay that she was going to receive was not going to be less than the salary of her senior at the school.

"I'm so relieved that you said yes. Bonnie likes spending time with you. Now, I can travel without worrying about her, thank you so much."

She was free from the fear of starving and going broke, at least for a couple of months. Her fate finally proved to be in her favor, and she couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity.

After three days, Mrs. Anita left for London and Oriel started her job as the babysitter of Bonnie. She would take care of her during the day, send her to school, take her out to play with her friends put her sleep before her father, Mr. Ian came back from his work.

"My baby looks so pretty sleeping so soundly," said Mr. Ian, as he watched Bonnie sleeping, tucked in her bed. He turned to Oriel standing behind and said, "thank you for today, you can get to home now."

"Bonnie waited for you before falling asleep,"

"Oh! my baby, daddy's very sorry to make you wait." He leaned to kiss sleeping Bonnie's forehead.

Oriel saw the way that father loved his daughter and she was reminded of her past where she had experienced this fatherly love and lost it to the unfortunate incidents.

She came out of her daze and said, "she wanted to ask you if you're free to take her to amusement park tomorrow."

"Is that so?" Mr. Ian said to himself. "Alright, I will try to make some changes in my schedule and take her there."

Bonnie opened her eyes like she had never fell asleep. "Really! Thank you daddy." She jumped to her feet and wrapped her little arms around her father in ecstasy. Her face glowed and her smile was like spring's bloom.

Oriel smiled looking at her as if she was in it from the beginning. "I can see your future as an actress, you little monkey."

Next day, Bonnie was dancing in glee as she was super excited for the amusement park. Oriel put a lovely dress on her and also braided her hair into a pretty creeper.

"Why don't you come with us, Miss?" suggested Bonnie.

"I can't come with you." Oriel seated her on a chair as she put socks in her feet. "While you have fun in the park, I have to look for a job, I can't be your baby sitter forever, right."

"Why can't you be my babysitter forever?"

"Because someday you gotta grow up and find that life is hard when you're out there looking after your own," she mouthed as she buckled the shoes around her feet. "I'm sure that you will never have to know what it feels like."

"My mommy is always travelling to other countries and dad is always busy with his patients, I can take care of my own."

"I agree." She was all prepared to leave for the park. "By the way, Is your dad a doctor?" asked Oriel.

"Yes! he is a neuro...nero... something to do with brain."

"Do you mean neurosurgeon by chance?"

"Yup... that's the word."
