Chapter 1Midnight Coffee Race

Daniel Walters was sure that the coffee he drank isn't what it is. But what can he do, vomit it out? That would be troublesome, but the aftermath of the incident is something he has to deal with.

What had happened? Oh, nothing just he suddenly gained some weird powers, and kind of made an enemy to giant cooperation. How did this all happen? Well, it all started with a race. Midnight to be exact.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey, newbie! Get over here." Daniel blinked, yawning as he stood up to go up to his senior. It was a Friday night, and he was on a night shift. He was a night guard in the famous Lincoln cooperation.

"It's Daniel sir, but please call me Dan." But he had received a loud smack to his back. The man had just grinned and went on rambling his day. Who was this man? Cooper Black, his senior. He was a giant dark-skinned man, as much as people call him shady and scary, Cooper is a nice fellow. He would make dad jokes and once in a while they'll grab a cup of coffee (In Dan's case he hates bitter, so he'll take tea or milk)

"Well son, it's already ten p.m, you might wanna get our coffee before the shop closes down. I'll stay on watch guard here, while you grab 'em, ye?" Cooper smiled.

So of he went rushing to the nearest cafe outside the building. Dan went out of the building and was met with the sign 'Ben's and May's Coffee Shop'. He walked in, hearing the familiar jingle. He greeted the owner with a smile, as he strode to the counter.

"Hey May, can I get a cup of cappuccino one shot, and-

"You're plain milk? Sure fella, just wait for a few minutes." Dan flashed another smile towards the owner, as she waved back. May was the owner of this cafe, She was a sweet old lady, with a refreshing personality. Of course, he would know that. He used to work here. While her husband Ben was usually here in the morning. But they both were a sweet elderly couple.

"Daniel?" He perked up from his seat, as he went to get his order. He ends up getting them both on the house, even though he had tried to pay for his order.

"Boy, don't worry, it's just one time." He gave up that moment because it was closing time soon anyways. He bid goodbye as he rushed back towards the building. Few minutes till 11, Dan had finally arrived in the office, as he gave Cooper his cappuccino and stored his milk in the fridge in the lounge area. He had asked why they had a fridge, which Cooper had said and he quote "they're just stupidly rich"

"Kid, Not drinking your milk?" Cooper said as he took a big sip of his coffee and lets out a big sigh. Dan had shocked his head, as he just went through the monitors displaying the camera feed. "Nothing is better than a hot cup of coffee on a Friday night, huh?" Cooper chuckled as he went back drinking his coffee.

Night shifts were usually boring, with nothing much going on. It's always him and Cooper watching the camera feed, or one of them goes on patrolling the area. Lincoln cooperation is also a facility where they study science and technology, It's considered one of the most successful industries in 2025.

Dan sighs as he slumps down on his chair. Having his head rested on his hand, he began thinking random things about what could happen tomorrow. He still had an essay due next week for his college, he needed to run some errands also for his mom. Dan knew he was a busy man (he could internally hear Cooper calling him boy "I'M A MAN COOPER." "Whatever kid.") But what can he do, at least he got this job. He also needed to pay for his student loans, later on. So maybe working to his bones now, might pay for some debt he has.

"Ey Daniel. Why don't you go and patrol the area as I keep watch." Dan nodded as he brings out his phone and, flashlight, just in case it was dark or something. As he roams the big building. The building had 83 floors, and Daniel only had access to 45 of them. Some floors are private, as they had their security measures, Dan was just a watch guard at the lower levels of the building.

But at the corner of his eye, there was one office that was still bright. Weird, usually workers are already out of the place before 10, was it an overtime worker? Curios, he trudges towards it, as he glanced at the glass door.

It was a mid-thirty-year-old man, with a bird's nest for a hair. He had unruly clothing, and he looked to be panicked about something? Dan furrowed his eyebrows, he knew a lot of workers here, as he tries to know everybody's name. But who was he? Unconsciously he knocked on the glass door, which both the man and Dan flinched at the sound.

The man scrambled away from the door, as Dan just went inside the office, it looked to be more like a lab. Dan was sure he never saw this man before because this lab belonged to the head director on this floor.

"Hey, who are you!" Dan exclaimed as the man looked at him with fear in his eyes. The man suddenly walked up to him, as Dan staggered backward. Surprised at the forwardness, Dan tried to push the man away. The man began muttering stuff Dan doesn't know, what he catches a glimpse of was: cup, the end, power.

"Sir, you are invading private property, please step away- HEY!" The man had shoved him something...a cup? "Sir, please who are you?" Dan said exasperated, wanting to go back to his office and get his cold milk from the fridge.

"Liam Lincoln, DON'T let them have this, boy. You listen to me. Don't let them take it away, hide it. I can't stay here any longer." The man shocked both of his shoulders as he spat out warnings. Dan pushed the guy away, as suddenly his phone rang. Cooper's voice rang through the static of the background. "KID, code red, get back here immediately, the level 1 security will patrol the area."

Dan who had been let go, with a cup in his hand. Gawked as his phone, "come again? Cooper? Cooper!, shit." Dan cursed at his phone, out of battery. Level 1 security? The one that has access to all the floors of the building? What the hell happened. Suddenly his gaze went through Liam, the man sitting on the chair, intensely shaking his foot.

"...what the hell did you do!?" Dan exploded, as the man whimpered and covered his face with his palms. Groaning, he glances at the door outside, he could see some of the level 1 security. He went out, going to report Liam to them. When immediately he walked out of the door, he was jumped.

"SIR, I FOUND THE PERPETRATOR!" Dan managed to struggle away from the grip and yelled out "NO, it's not me, the man inside-" Liam, the man who was acting suspicious, had kicked the guy on top of him, and said

"run"

---

"WHY ARE WE RUNNING, I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING BAD!" Dan had yelled out as they both ran through the building. It seems that they were heading to the lounge, but Liam wasn't answering any of his questions.

"Wait a second you said you're name is Liam Lincoln?" Still no answer, but Dan could only be surprised inside. Lincoln, the same cooperation building he's in. What in the world, is what he had thought, as he slammed his office door.

"KID! Thank god, I thought there was a killer on the loose or-" But Cooper had his gaze on Liam who was frantically walking to the fridge in their lounge. "Who the hell is this dude?" Dan had been panting from the chase they had. He could only shake his head and shrug.

"Fine, I'll go distract the guys outside." Dan nodded, the security guys were outside their office, and they have not much time left. What the hell had Dan done to get jumped? Was it the cup?

"vial- where the hell, CUP!" Liam who was back from the fridge walked towards Dan. Dan looked at his arms, he was still holding the suspicious cup, at first, he wanted to argue. But it had been snatched from his arms. On Liam's hands was the cup of milk he had.

"You did not just get my milk-"

"No time!" Suddenly Liam had opened up the suspicious cup and poured it into his milk. Dan squawked in despair, his milk was mixed with a suspicious black liquid.

Dan grabbed Liam's collar, "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU PUT IN MY MILK!" But Liam had shoved the drink towards him, with the cap on, and the door was slammed open.

"THAT'S HIM! GRAB HIM!" Liam had looked at him agitated. "drink it!" he whispered out to Dan. But Dan's protest had been ignored as the drink was being shoved towards him.

"GET AWAY FROM ME," Dan growled, but it had been shove to his throat, as he swallowed the bitter content. Coughing, he began choking. It had tasted like the coffee Cooper usually had. Was the room blurring? Why was everything so slow, yet so fast. Why is it silent?

The last thing he had seen before he blacked out was Liam smiling in glee.

"It worked!"

His head slammed into the floor as he slumped down unconscious to all the loud sirens and yelling.

Intergalactic conquest with an AI

Rex was just another slave in the corporate machine, a faceless office worker under the shadow of one of the galaxy's powerful megacorps. His life was predictable and dull, an endless cycle of meaningless reports and fluorescent-lit monotony. That was, until that day.... When a new world was discovered on the outskirts of the galaxy, Rex, like countless other low-ranking employees, found himself dragged into a contract clause he’d barely skimmed years ago. The megacorp ordered him and his coworkers to pack their lives into a transport pod and leave for the unexplored planet. Their mission? Establish a colony. Mine resources. Make the company richer. There was no choice, refusing meant ruin. At first, everything seemed manageable. The days were grueling, the nights cold, but progress was steady. The colony was coming to life. Until the excavation team struck something. No one knew what it was at first, a buried hive, a forgotten ecosystem, or something ancient and dangerous. Whatever it was, it unleashed hell. Swarms of enormous, chittering creatures erupted from the ground, their jagged bodies blotting out the sky. The colony fell into chaos. Screams echoed through the air as the bugs tore through everything in their path, walls, machines, and people. Rex barely survived. Bloodied, broken, and pinned beneath the rubble, he should have died there. But in the pitch-black silence of his fading consciousness, a voice spoke to him. Cold. Mechanical. Otherworldly. "Do you wish to live?" When Rex woke, he was no longer the man he’d been. His body was no longer human flesh and bone but something far more alien. His skin shimmered with living metal, his mind infused with the power of Cleo, a mysterious AI from a long-extinct, robotic race known as the Kaelzars. Cleo’s presence pulsed through his thoughts, guiding him and transforming him. He wasn’t just alive. He was reborn. But survival came at a price. Rex was no longer a pawn of the megacorp; he was something more dangerous, something they couldn’t control. As Cleo’s intentions began to reveal themselves, Rex found himself standing on the precipice of war, not just with the bugs but with forces far greater than he could have imagined. This was the beginning of a journey through blood-soaked battlefields and treacherous alliances. Along the way, Rex would encounter allies, brilliant, flawed, and unpredictable, and enemies whose ambitions were as sharp as their blades. These weren’t disposable foes, easily crushed by an overpowered hero. They were cunning, relentless, and human in the most terrifying ways. But then again, in war, who can truly be called a villain?
