Tragedy

Izuku Midoriya, 4 years old, son of Hisashi and Inko Midoriya. The three of them lived happily, until it all started to fall apart.

The two loving parents were currently in the doctor's office, little Izuku was running around the office with his All Might action figure that he loved to carry around. "Izuku sweety slow down, you are going to fall," said Inko.

Hisashi laughed, "It's alright dear, let him run around. Just make sure not to knock anything down, alright Izuku?"

Izuku stopped and nodded, "I won't! I'm just really excited to find out what kind of quirk I'll have!"

"He sure is energetic isn't he?" asked the doctor as he walked into the room.

"Yeah he is," said Inko. "Alright Izuku, time to sit down."

Izuku nodded and quickly sat down, "Good, now let's get onto what you came here for."

"So what kind of quirk does my son have? My wife can attract things and I can breathe fire. Izuku here also has dreams of becoming a hero." said Hisashi.

The doctor looked at his charts, "Unfortunately Izuku here won't develop a quirk."

The entire Midoriya family's eyes went wide, "I-I'm sorry what?" asked Inko.

"Let me explain." reaching into the folder the doctor pulled out an xray of Izuku's foot. "You see, those with quirks have only one joint in their pinky toe, while those without quirks have two. In Izuku's case he has two joints. Which in all likeness means that he will not have any powers. Sorry kid, but you can't be a hero."

Izuku dropped his All Might action figure, "Thank you doc, we'll see ourselves out." The family then got up and walked out of the doctor's office.

The car ride home was quiet, after a few minutes the family got home. Entering Izuku didn't say a word but slowly made his way into the other room where he had a computer on.

Taking a seat he began to watch videos of All Might. The two parents stood at the doorway as their son watched the video. Half way through the video Izuku spoke but didn't turn around, "Mom, Dad, can I still become a hero. Like All Might?"

Inko immediately ran towards her son and hugged him. "I'm so sorry Izuku! I'm so sorry!'

Hisashi stood at the doorway looking at Izuku, 'I'm sorry kid, but I don't think you can be a hero. But you sure as hell can be something else.'

A week had gone by since Izuku got the fateful news, the once energetic boy was now sitting quietly on the sofa. It was the weekend so this meant everyone was home, Inko was reading a book and Hisashi was washing dishes. After moments of silence Hisashi couldn't take it anymore, "Alright kid, let's go." Walking over to the sofa, Hisashi stopped in front of Izuku. "Go get your shoes on, and wear something comfortable."

Izuku looked at his father confused, "Where are we going?"

Hisashi smiled, "We are going on a run."

"A run?" asked Izuku. He looked over to his mother who nodded, "Alright…"

As Izuku went to change Inko got up and walked up to her husband, "Do you think he'll be fine?"

"I-I don't know, but what Izuku needs right now is something to distract him. Maybe he can find that in running." explained Hisashi.

Once he was done changing Izuku met his father outside. "Alright sport, let's get started."

"Where are we going exactly?" Asked Izuku.

Hisashi smiled, "You'll see, now an important thing about running is that you should keep a steady pace. If you go all out in the beginning you'll get tired easily. Got it?"

"I think so?" Said Izuku, still slightly confused.

"Good enough, let's go!" With that the two began to jog down the stairs and onto the main street.

After what felt like hours but in reality was only 30 minutes, and due to the fact that Izuku was still a kid and had nowhere near the amount of stamina Hisashi had, they finally made it to their destination, the beach.

With sweat staining his shirt and dripping down his forehead Izuku was picked up by his father. "So that was difficult right?"

Catching his breath Izuku nodded, "Y-Yeah, why did we do this?"

"Before I answer that, look." Hisashi then pointed forward.

Turning his head, Izuku's eyes widened, "Wow!"

There in front of him was the red glow of the setting sun as it dipped under the horizon. "Beautiful isn't it?" Izuku nodded, "That's why I told you to come. I wanted to show you that even though the journey getting here was tough, in the end it was worth it. That's how life is going to be for you Izuku. There will be times that you feel like quitting but always remember, one step at a time, and don't ever look back."

Being a kid Izuku didn't fully understand the magnitude of those words but in time, maybe he will. As father and son watched the sun disappear Izuku tapped his dad on the shoulder, "Hey dad, I don't know if I can become a good hero like All Might, but I still want to try."

Hisashi smiled, "That's the best place to start kid, first we have to decide if we want to start or not. Come on, we should head home, your mom is probably worried sick."
