Chapter 10: A Drowsy Awakening || 1.4k

Logan walked through the halls of the school, following the directions he had received. He was looking for his assigned classroom, where he would meet his new classmates and teacher.

He had just passed the entrance exam with flying colors, scoring higher than anyone else. He was feeling confident and excited.

He reached a large room with a sign that said 1A on the door. He opened it and entered, expecting to see a crowd of students. But to his surprise, the room was empty.

He checked his watch and realized he was early. The class wouldn't start for another hour and a half.

He shrugged and decided to make himself comfortable. He found his seat, which had his name on it, and sat down. He leaned back on his chair and closed his eyes.

He figured he might as well take a nap while he waited. He wasn't going to waste his time sitting around doing nothing.

One hour thirteen minutes later <<<

Logan was in a deep sleep, dreaming of burgers, fried calamari, and everything in between. He was enjoying his feast, savoring every bite.

He was suddenly jolted awake by a loud voice.

"Hey, you! Wake up, you lazy bastard!"

Logan opened his eyes and saw Bakugo standing over him, his face red with rage. Bakugo was one of the other students who had passed the exam, but he had scored lower than Logan.

He had a bandage on his hand from where Logan had pierced it with his claws during their fight.

"What do you want?" Logan groaned, rubbing his eyes.

"I want to know how you did it!" Bakugo shouted. "How did you score higher than me in the exam? You must have cheated! There's no way you could have won fairly."

Logan smirked and sat up straight. He looked Bakugo in the eye and said:

"I didn't cheat. I just used my skills and instincts, Something you clearly lack."

Bakugo clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. Small explosions were released in his palms.

"You think you're so smart, huh? You think you're better than me?" Bakugo challenged.

"I don't think. I know." Logan replied with a smirk.

By this point, Bakugo was physically shaking with rage.

"I'll kill you!" he yelled as he took a step forward.

Not backing down, Logan also took a step forward, his eyes looking down at Bakugo.

"You wouldn't even be able to hit me once."

"BASTARD!" With that, Bakugo swung his fist at Logan who immediately caught it.

Slowly increasing the pressure on Bakugo's hand, Logan could feel Bakugo's knuckles begin to crack as he was brought down to one knee.

"Is that all you got?" Logan taunted.

Bakugo tried to pull his hand away, but Logan held it firmly. He then used his other hand to create a bigger explosion and aimed it at Logan's face.

"TAKE THIS!" Bakugo roared.

But before the blast could hit Logan, they were both wrapped up by a white scarf that came out of nowhere and slammed them into the wall.

They looked up and saw a man standing at the door. He had pale skin, dark circles under his eyes, and long black hair. He was wearing a black suit and a pair of goggles. He had a bored expression on his face.

"Who is this hobo?" the duo asked at the same time. He was their homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa.

"You two. What do you think you're doing?" Aizawa asked in a monotone voice.

He walked into the classroom and looked at the other students who had gathered around to watch the fight.

They all flinched under his gaze. "I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa." He introduced himself. I'm here to teach you how to be heroes, not to babysit you"

He then released Bakugo and Logan from his scarf and let them fall to the floor. "Everybody put these on and come out to the field."

"Ahh, I almost forgot." Aizawa took out a suit from his bag and handed it to Logan. "You put this one on instead." He then turned around and walked out of the room, leaving the students confused and curious.

In an olympic sized field, the students could see various equipment set up for different tests. They stood behind Aizawa, who was holding a phone.

"A quirk assessment test? What about the entrance ceremony? The orientation?" A girl asked.

She was Ochaco Uraraka, a fellow classmate of Logan. Her quirk, Zero Gravity, allowed whatever she touched to levitate in the air for as long as she wanted. Of course, the weight of the object did matter.

"If you came here to become a hero, then there is no time to be doing those activities." Aizawa said sternly.

"One of UA's best qualities is its unrestricted school traditions. That's also how the teachers run their classes." Taking out his phone, Aizawa showed a list of fitness tests: grip strength, 50-meter dash, standing long jump, seated toe touch, sit-ups, side-to-side jumps, repeated side steps, and softball throw.

"You guys have been doing this since junior high, right? A physical fitness test where you aren't allowed to use your quirks." Aizawa said. "Japan still takes averages from non-quirk usage fitness tests. Yes, it is irritating, but that's what you get with a lazy ministry."

"Logan, you placed first in the practical exam. How far was your long throw in junior high?" Aizawa asked. "Well, I've never done a throw without my quirk since it is not an activation type. My best throw, however, is roughly 860 meters depending on the weather" Logan answered.

Aizawa pointed at a circle on the ground that had two protruding lines, forming a sector. It was marked with distances up to 100 meters.

"Demonstrate for us." Aizawa said. Logan walked right onto the back edge of the circle's area and readied his feet. He breathed in, expanding his chest and holding his breath.

With a large step forward, Logan breathed out creating circles of air at the precipice of his throw.

VWoooosh

The softball flew out of his hand like a bullet, leaving a trail of dust behind it. It soared over the field and disappeared into the horizon. Aizawa checked his phone, which was connected to a sensor on the ball. He showed it to the rest of the class as well.

The screen displayed: Distance: 1,012 meters

Everyone went wide eyed. 1000 meters is quite a feat for anyone. Even using their quirk most could only get less than 700.

"Good… In order to make a good foundation to be a hero, you should test using your quirks."

"That is rational"

The student's started to get excited. Using their quirks for the first time in physical tests was unheard of before they came to UA.

"This looks fun!" one student commented.

Aizawa gazed upon the student body with a stern gaze."Fun you say… If you're going to be a hero in the next three years, how long are you going to keep this attitude."

"If you place last in all of the following eight tests you will be expelled from the school."

Aizawa lifted the hair off his face, revealing his second eye. A creepy smile was plastered on his pale skinned face.

"Welcome to the UA hero course."

Everyone felt the air on the field get heavier. They realized what how they had to approach learning in UA from now on.

"Japan is riddled with evil, greed, and unfortunate situations."

"The job of a hero is to reverse those situations as fast and as efficiently as possible…

If you want to go hang out with your friends after school, too bad. For the next three years you will work to become the best hero you can be."
