Chapter 8: Life is still going on

It's been four years since the attempted kidnapping in and my life took had gone through a little shift along the way. For starters the incident really did shake me as it gave me a new experience of dread and helplessness which I never truly experienced in my past life mostly because I lived a regular life before even though I been through a few tough times, because of that I began training myself into training as crime rate was a higher in this country so a situation like that might likely happen again.  

Aunt began teaching me some self-defense just in case, I get mixed up in something else and her, gran or anybody else wasn't around to save me but she also gave me some pointers in some exercises to help me out. When I asked her where she learned all that stuff she just shrugged and said she wasn't always my aunt.

I finally got rid of the gloves as I can now properly control my quirk in terms of it to randomly releasing electricity and shock everything around me. I unlocked the magnetic proportion of my powers but they weren't that strong wait as for electromagnets you need a strong current if you want a strong magnet and my electrical output wasn't all that yet. I dove more into electrical science, magnetism, technology and mathematics to help me understand my powers better as I didn't get Misaka's skill set automatically I really need to understand the science behind my element to reach her level of mastery but I still got her Intelligence so studying and applying wasn't a problem. The gym I went with aunt did provide a good spot for physical exercise but it wasn't a place where I could really push my quirk but it was the best I got.

When it came to my personal life, I was currently in a good private primary school in Lusaka called Saint Teresa which consisted of a primary and secondary level of education with Suiw and Matthew as still only friends still. Suiw and I got closer after the incident but its not like we were fully joined to the hip or something like that, sure I've gone to her amazing ass house to hang out from time to time but at school she had her own little friend group and she was quite popular at school but she was developing a haughtier persona but she was still kind to others. I didn't know whether it was a coping mechanism or something but human psychology wasn't his thing but I will say this she was getting really good at using her quirk, guess the Sosalas must have paid for a good personal tutor.

When it came to my relationship with Matthew it was still pretty good, we hung in and outside of school now. We visited each other's houses to just to play videos games, watch tv and just chill. I met his family which comprises of his dad how has a quirk which gave him elephant trunk, his mom who was quirk gave her tusks, and an elder brother by 4 years whose quirk the lower body of an elephant. His dad seemed busy most of the time. His mom was a house wife, and his big brother was a little bit of a prick.

Right now, currently chilling on top of a tree something which I oddly loved doing on breaktime or recess eating some gummy bears I bought from the tuck-shop listening to some Spanish lesson audio on my phone while playing a spaceship shooting game with one headset in my right ear. In the school French was a subject so I just picked up studying other foreign languages as one of my spare hobbies like the mentioned Spanish and a little Japanese of other reasons. My school uniform consisted of a white shirt, tie, grey pants and a blue button sweater.

"HEY CHIMZEY TAKE A LOOK AT THIS!" Matthew yelled from beneath the tree. He his elephant head had become more refined with small tusks growing out of his mouth and his body was still chubby but taller in size.

"What?" I asked taking the headset off my ear and jumped down the tree looking at his phone.

"It's a video of All Might taking down a gang of dozens of villains!" He said excitedly than his ears dropped a bit. "But it I can't find the English subtitles and I can't understand what there saying." I just rolled my eyes a little at that. He loved watching clips of heroes especially All might but the one he loved the most were hard to find the English subtitle so he tried learning Japanese but it was incredibly difficult for him so I learned a little bit of it to act as his translator from time to time.

"Why couldn't you be a fan boy of the number hero of this country." I sighed after I was done translating the video for him and went back to my gummy bears.

"What!! Of course, I love Inkosi but All might is a whole different breed of awesome dude! He can literally take care of any villain with one punch!" He started doing some fake fighting poses causing me to laugh a bit. "Man, I can't wait to graduate primary and start hero training in secondary."

The hero training system here is somewhat different from Japan as here hero courses generally don't start until college. But for high up their private schools like Saint Teresa the hero course is offered in secondary school but only if you pass a special test but is not UA fight robots type testing though it was pretty the typical physical and written test. After you completed your four years you attend the hero course college curriculum for only a year. But I heard that some secondary schools want to offer hero studies but it will be a very on the low subject.

"You look really funny doing that Matthew."  A Suiw's voice caught our attention. She had growing into pretty girl not going to lie with decided to with a braided hair style. She was currently just wearing the female version of the school uniform.

"H-H-Hey Suiw it's been a while." Matthew stuttered at this point am convinced he has a crush on her.

"Hey Matthew. Sup Chimwemwe." She greeted us.

"Sup." I replied to her with a wave going back to opening another pack of gummy bears and she just sat beside me.

"What's got you all excited Matthew?" She asked him and took some of my gummy bears making me give her a 'really' look and she had the nerve just looked cheekily at me.

"O-Oh am just exited to attend a hero course when we graduate." He said scratching the back of his head. "But am sure you two won't have a problem getting with your amazing quirks!"

"Aren't you thinking a little ahead Matthew I mean that's five years from now." I said getting Suiw to elbow me a bit. I know Matthew really wanted to be a hero and I really don't want to sound like an asshole here but with his type quirk it would be challenging for him know I just hope in five years he does pull through.

"Don't be such a downer Chimwemwe I for one can't a hero fashionista." Suiw said putting her hand on her chest.

"What's that?" Both Matthew and I asked her.

"Typical boys a hero fashionista is someone who is a hero and also dives into the arts of cloths designing and modeling. It's similar to what my mom wants to do am going to not only save people but also help how feel body shammed by my agency providing fashion services to help them discover their inner beauty." The she finished her explanation with a dramatic pose.

"Yeah, you obviously made that up." I said rolling my eyes a little.

"Hmph your just jealous bug zapper." She crossed her arms. "Speaking of which what kind of hero do you want to be?"

"Oh, I really don't want to be a hero." I said throwing the finished packet of gummy bears in the bin.

"WHAT!!" Matthew was completely flabbergasted by answer while Suiw was surprisingly calmer but she still had widened eyes. "B-But why you got such an awesome quirk why wouldn't you want to be a hero with it!" He began shaking me.

"Geez man chill." I lightly pushed him away. Even though my memories from my past life are slipping I do remember I read some fan works on mha and in most of them the protagonist usually becomes heroes or sometimes villains. I have nothing against heroes but just because I was reborn in this world doesn't mean that it's a must for me to follow those paths at least not without a reason.

"So, you don't want to be a hero huh." Suiw gave looked at me intensely. "Well, I'll see guys later I have to go back to Jenny and Praise bye!" She run off to her other friends.

After she left, I noticed that Matthew had a small sad look on his face as she left of course I didn't care if Suiw made other friends I didn't own her or anything she can do whatever she wants to. Matthew on the other hand was a different case.

"Come on man lets head out breaks almost over and don't be so sad about Suiw she has her own stuff going on just like you and me." I said nudged him

After School

I was now home currently practicing my magnetic powers outside in the backyard. I didn't have any plans to hang out with Matthew or Suiw today and I wasn't going to the gym today and Auntie was currently in the living room watching tv. I was just using my electromagnetic powers to make some metal balls float around.

"I should try this with some weights at the gym." I said as I looked at my progress.

"Chicky come on we have to go to the gym." Auntie suddenly came outside.

"Wait I thought we weren't going today."

"We weren't but Matilda brought in some news which need OUR attention now get changed were going there now." She said all that in a little frantic. Matilda was the actual owner of the gym and we had met about two weeks after the banquet incident, she was really nice but intense when it came to work outs. According to my aunt they had been friends and roommates in their college days and kept close.

As we were making our way towards the gym and as we were on the road, I often wondered how criminals weren't running these streets as we do have somewhat of a higher crime rate.  Sure, the heroes were good enough to take them down it just gets the gears in my head turning. Apparently, it had much to do with an organization named Takhar.

When we got to the gym it was surpassingly empty because I usually see some people here after Matilda got back.

"Hello Caçars." Matilda greeted us by the boxing ring. She was a black woman with a slightly tall structure, athletic build, an afro pony tail, grey eyes and her most prominent feature where the blue line tattoos on her face. She was standing next to a man I've never seen before. He was tall, muscular in build, long breads swiped back, dark eyes and a beard. He wore a white shirt, maroon jacket, black pants and sneakers.

'Huh call me crazy but he looks a similar to my dad or from what I've seen from him in the pictures.' I thought as I looked at the man.

"Hey Matilda." Auntie greeted her than she turned to the man and gave him an intense stare like she was assessing the man in front of us.

"Come on Minerva do you really have to look at me like that." The man said rubbing the back of his neck a nervously.

"Yes, the hell I do I've got ever right to! Matilda what is he doing here!?" She yelled which got me by surprise she never heard her yell in anger like that before.

"Esay Minerva. Joseph here just should up on my doorstep this morning and asked if he could for a bit and I said yes." Matilda tried to cool her down a bit but she still glared at the man.

"Ha! Guess you're still pretty pissed at me aren't ya kitty." He joked and she growled at him he than turned his attention towards me. "Sup little dude." He greeted me with the nodded.

"Um hey." I replied.

"Chicky go and practice your magnetic power of yours by lifting a few weights far over there."

"Tch man seriously?"

"Just go and don't try to eavesdrop I can hear and smell you from kilometers away!"

"Fine damn!" I gave her my phone as I didn't want my powers to fuck it up plus, I secretly switched on the recorder when I was playing with it but it's not like she knew and I was on lock screen when I gave her.

Third person POV

Once Chimwemwe got into the far conner of the gym and select some metal bar for his practice. Blue electricity danced around him as he began levitating most of the bars he picked out.

"Got his old man's quirk I see." The man known as Joseph smiled as he watched Chimwemwe lift the iron bars.

"Yeah, so you going to start talking or what?"

"Hang on shouldn't we be in a more private place like Matilda's office." Minerva just looked back at Chimwemwe and sighed

"Don't worry their cameras in there so we can still keep an eye on him will still in there." Matilda reassured her and the three went into the office.

"So, Joseph what brings you here after all this time I thought you were still having the love hate relationship going on with Takhar." Minerva asked the man before her. It's not like she hated him or something it was just a little suspicious that all.

"Well kitty for starter I wanted to finally see my brother's kid over there and I heard that there was an attack from Kujitenga." That got Minerva to sigh. "Your four years too late on that one Joseph." She criticized the man's timing. "No Minerva that's not what I meant there have been a slight increase in villain activities in Lusaka, Lilongwe and Tanzania and the people at Takhar think it has something to do with Kujitenga so they called in a favor for me to come check things out here."

"I know that news of Kujitenga attack and kidnapping went shock the country a bit but most of them have been found or negotiated plus Kujitenga is a dying terrorist group clinging on what little life it has why would villains be interested in them." Matilda gave her thoughts.

"Well resources are going into finding those kids as they were others who were kidnapped as well and since most of the heroes and law will be busy with them there will be less focus on criminals. There is a chance that Kujitenga will be hire a lot of desperate villains and crooks for their own dirty work." Joseph explained.

"So, they reason they announced their return like that was just to cause a little panic if it was that's not a great plan. There's a chance the three families might decide to wipe them out permanently this time." Minerva scratched the back of her. "So will I be seeing you around here a lot or are you going to ran off again?"

"Minerva I'm sorry but I-…"

"Save it the half asses apology Jason if you're sticking around, I know the real reason you're doing this is to find leads Simon and Alinafe's killer, but you're bound to have interactions with Chimwemwe am not going to tell you to stay away from him or some shit like that you're his uncle but just keep THAT life store of yours on the minimum when around him." Once Minerva said this Jason smiled at least knowing she was still reasonable.

"OH! I near you still couldn't resist me!" He grinned teasingly but Minerva pulled his cheek.

"Don't push your luck tough guy!" She snarled a bit.

Matilda just sighed in relief and thank god that Minerva was being at least reasonable about the whole situation. Joseph and her didn't really separate on the best terms and she were suspecting Minerva to get a little physically violent with him despite his quirk.

"Josep, are you going to keep on trying and failing to woo your sister-in-law or are you going back outside and REALLY introduce yourself to your nephew." After Matilda said that he paused slightly.

'How am I supposed to do this.'
