Chapter 5: The Scar faced Nemesis

Ram didn't really know who the nemesis of the previous Elder of Time to be exact. It's just that he could remember a distinct feature of him that would enable them to identify him.

"I just remembered something from the memories of your grandfather and I think it might be helpful for us in identifying the nemesis of your grandfather," Ram said to Sandhya.

Sandhya stopped talking with Em and stared at him for a long time. She just stared and did nothing. It was so uncomfortable that Ram wished he could hide away from her gaze. Become something like invisible.

For a moment, he thought he was really invisible. Sandhya frowned, her eyes moved side to side for a moment, as if she were searching for him. But it settled after few moments as if she found him.

"What?" Ram asked her.

Sandhya shook her head, mumbling to herself. "Nothing of important. You know who my grandfather's nemesis is?" she asked.

Ram nodded. "Kind of. I had a memory of their battle, I don't know when it had happened. But just as your grandfather was about to lose consciousness, his nemesis took off his mask and your grandfather had seen a scar on his face," he said.

"Where exactly did you see the scar?" Sandhya asked.

Ram shook his head. "I don't know. It's all messy out there, but I just know that he had a scar on his face," he said.

Sandhya glared at him. "There are some many people inside The Institute alone with a scar on their faces. We don't even know if his nemesis was someone from the Institute or from the side of the Darkness. How could this help us in finding who he is?" she asked.

Ram ignored her. It was at least better than nothing. They are much closer to finding out who her grandfather's nemesis was than earlier. He turned to Em. "Em, can you take the fragment of the memory that I had just remembered and project it for us?" he asked.

Em nodded her head. She closed her eyes, her eyebrows furrowed. One minute gone. Two and then like that even after 10 minutes nothing happened. It seemed like she were in pain and as far as Ram knew, Em was an A.I. assistant. She can't feel emotions or pain right?

"I can't access them," she said.

Ram was shocked. The old man blocking his memories from Em was acceptable. Did he blocked Em from accessing the transferred memories, or at least some part of it? Ram sighed. "It looks like your grandfather was responsible for this. Do you think he knew who his nemesis was and did this to protect you and Em from him?" he asked.

Sandhya thought for a moment and nodded. "It might be the case. After all my grandfather had blocked out Em of our conversations. Now that I think about it, he was not at all forthcoming with me as I had hoped he would be. He cared a lot about me, more than anything in his life," she said, with a pensive look on her face.

Em walked up to Sandhya and patted her shoulder. Em's projection also includes senses. Like the way she did it with Ram being an Ironman. When Ram gave a command and HUD slid close, he was able to feel the air, smell his surroundings and all. In a way, she could become a better companion for a loner like him. This time, she was mourning for her Master's loss together with Sandhya. He must've been a good man.

Once they composed themselves, they turned towards Ram. "Don't even think about investigating who The Scar faced Nemesis is. You will eventually find out once you have certain control of your powers. Till then let's focus on your training," Sandhya said.

Ram was too happy to oblige. He was not powerful. They are. He didn't know most of the things about the world he had been living in, forget about their world, which was new, dangerous and filled with treachery. Since they are experienced in this, he had to listen to them.

"You have my training schedule planned out?" Ram asked.

Sandhya nodded. "My grandfather had provided me with an extensive plan as to how to proceed with your training. He created several plans involving many scenarios, in which you not receiving his memories were one amongst them.

"But before we could start your training, we have to move to a building that he had prepared specifically for your training. Pack up everything that you needed and we will move there.

"Also, remember that if you were to come with us, there was no way that you could return to your life the way it used to be. It would be filled with many dangerous situations where the chances of you losing your life was more.

"If people were to find out the truth about you, they might kidnap you, kill you, torture you or even do some manipulations to you so that you could become their lackey. There might be a chance that you could also be the reason The Institute might finally break and go all-out war amongst us, meanwhile our enemies who had been waiting for such an event to happen, will make sure everything in their power to destroy us and our world," she said.

Ram was so scared that he wished all of this were a dream and he could go back to being the student that was being framed and kicked out of his college.

His room and the building on top of which it settled felt much safe than their world.

But going with them meant that he could learn to use the powers of time, which sounded too cool to be true. Come one, who couldn't wish to have a power to speed up the flow of time during an especially boring lecture? Or slow down the flow of time during your date with the girl of your dreams?

If he successfully learned to manage his powers, then he could become an Elder of Time that had some authority and could also lead the faction of Hope like the previous elder did.

And he remembered Sandhya telling them that he could also use his powers to influence others. So if he were to face the similar situation like that of the previous Elder of Time, then he could slow down the flow of time for his enemy while he could speed up his flow of time and escape with his life intact.

All of this will happen only if he could learn to use his powers. He needed their help with training.

Ram faced both Em and Sandhya and he said, "Let's do this."
