Job Hunting
1 year have pass after the incident, me and my grandma move into a new apartment that is owned by one of grandma's relative.
Thankful for the help that we from them i decided to help the landlord's family in their daily chores. Though i still need to find a stable job for my grandma's medicine.
"Grandma, im going to find jobs that are available so we can pay for your medicines" i told her
"Oh dear thank you, be careful out there okay" she replied as and gestured for a hug. I then went out the door to began looking for a job that could help me pay her medicines.
"You are lucky to have a grand daughter like her do you sister?" A voice come from behind me.
"Yes your right young sis, i am very lucky to have her as my grand daughter" i replied back to Vannesa.
For context she is my younger sister and the owner of this apartment that i and my grand daughter stay after the incident.
"Old sis, what would you do if she ever tried to find her parents due to anger?" Vannesa ask with a concerning tone.
"I know well that one day she would find them and confront about the situation but right now that is not her piority" i replied as i lay my hands over my lap.
"I would have save her if only i could walk again...i failed to do so" i added, i have always ask myself if wether or not i could have protected her from the physical pain she have recieved from my children. What if only i could walk again.
Sigh.....
Looking for a job is no easy in a town like this huh...i ask myself as i keep searching for flyers or posters looking for a new employee.
Holding the needed files in my hand which is incase in a brown envelope i continued my search for any job.
3 hours pass....
"Still no luck huh....this is disapointing" i said as i have not find a single job available for a freelancer like me. Not being able to have good remarks from my education makes it all the more troublesome, what if they did not accept me because i was not able to pass my classes.
I took a break by entering a cafe located just across the street. I took a deep sigh and began to pull open the door but all the sudden a man with a checkered jacket pass by me entering the cafe before i could even step a foot in it.
"Umm sir?, you do know that your suppose to let me in first since i opened the door and was supposedly enter now?" I calles him out.
"Is that so? Well sorry then" he replied without making eye contact with me and continued to walk towards the line.
I hurriedly sneak pass him stealing his spot in the line.
"Umm miss?" He ask confused
"Its called payback" i grumply replied to him.
Sigh...
I heard him sighed as if he is done with it and just began to line up accordingly, this really suprise me for i thought he would atleast scold me for stealing his spot but i guess he seem chill with it.
It was my turn to order so i deliberatly look into the monitor displaying the cafe's menu.
"I'll take a white latte please and a glazed donut" i told the cashier when i heard a voice behind me said-
"Make it two please"
.....
"That will be $10.15 in total" the cashier said
"Hey umm-" just i was about to ask a question the guy behind me said
"Don't worry i'll pay half of the total" the man in checkered jacket then handed me $5.
"Thank you?" I replied cofused as i take his bill and handed it to the cashier.
This is awkward i said to myself as i found myself seating with him in one table. He doesn't even mind my presence and just took a sip of the white latte and a bite of the glazed donut without considering my presence.
My gosh this make my head hurt so i decided to ask him.
"Hey, im Cass-" just as i was about to say my name to him
"Don't worry i don't need your name, im going to go anyways" he replied
"You seem to be looking for a job?" He added
I was suprise he knew that i was looking for a job so i decided to ask him how did he know of it.
"How do you know i was looking for a job?" I ask tilting my head waiting for his response.
"Well...i kept walking pass by you and you seem to be looking for a poster or flyer that shows any job offering" he replied.
"Well can you help me somehow.." i ask a selfish question
"Hmm..im new to this town but i did saw a small convenience store looking for employees wether they have experience or not" he replied
"Wait really!?" I said excitedly that i stood up from my seat
"Can you tell me which convenience store is it?" I added
"Well just pass five establishment down this street and you can find a convenience store" he replied
After that i said my thanks and then hurriedly walk out the cafe to find the convenience store. I then kept walking until i reach my suppose destination and there it was.
"6-12 seems to be a newly establish convenience store around this of the town", i then entered the store where i was greeted by a lady who has a blonde short hair.
"Good afternoon, how may i help you?" She proceeds
"I heard this store is looking for employees so i came here for the job if possible" i replied as i smiled back to her
"I see, well you are right as of now this store is new and we are still short in staff so we were looking for anyone who we can employ here" she replied
"My name is Hannah Limana, im the cashier for this store" she reach out her hand towards me gesturing for a handshake to which i recieved.
"Im Cassandra Aglaia, nice to meet you" we both smiled as we handshake
"Well if you wanted the job i could recommend you to our manager right now" Hannah told me
"Really! Thank you so much" i replied as i smiled excitedly
"Umm what is the job?" I added
"Oh i forgot to mention is it? Well its simply managing the goods here so more likely you just arrange the contents of this store accordingly" Hannah replied scratching the back of her head.
"Well i can take it then" i told her
She then told me to follow to the manager's office for me to be employed as an employee for this convenience store.
"Good afternoon, Ma'am Tanda this is Cassandra Aglaia who is here to be hired as an employee" Hannah told the manager as we entered the door
"Hmm, can i see the envelope your holding i believe that is the neccessary files when it comes to job hunting" the manager ask
"Uh, here" i handed it out to the manager
"Hmm, i see" she said as she went through the files in the envelope analyzing its content.
This makes me nervous, what if she denied me and now i have to apologized to Hannah for troubling her, my hands are shaking and cold sweat are gushing out of my forehead, i still let out a smile praying that i get accepted.
"This would do your in for the job i guess" she told me
"Wait even if ny records are not that impressive or even decent" i ask her confused
"It doesn't matter what your result is during your time in education as long as you do your job thats it i can't ask for more" she replied
She then kept the files in her cabinet and brought out a employee's shirt and id for me to fill in.
"Thats all you need, beside this job is does not need high standard anyways" manager said
"Congratulations Cassandra" Hannah said as she clapped her hands in joy
"Thank you" i replied smiling at her
I was then given the briefing and then sent home as i am assigned to start working tomorrow.
"Thank goodness for the man i met at the cafe for this, oh i should thank him for this" i said to myself, well it is unlikely that he would still be at the cafe so i decided to treat him if i ever found him again or if we meet each other in some ways.
I walk home happily and it was already dinner time so i hurried my way back home.
"Im back" i said as i opened the door and saw my grandma and miss Vannesa having a dinner.
"Oh dear welcome home, here have a seat now its time to eat" grandma said happily as she tap the empty chair beside her.
"Thats good Cassandra glad you found one" Vannesa added as she serve different plates of food in the table
"It might not be a big job but im satisfied with it" i joyfully said
"And i get meet a friend now" i added smiling joyfully to them
I then take off my coat and gently laid it out in the small table just beside the door to go and eat dinner with my grandma and miss Vannesa.
