Chapter 25 - Coulson’s Call

(Unedited)

==============================

*RING RING* *RING RING*

"AHH!" I let out a short high pitched scream in surprise, before calming myself.

Flipping open the phone I see and unknown number is calling, I hesitantly press the green answer button.

"Hello?" I answer/ask.

"Spider-man?" The voice on the other side says.

"Agent Coulson. you don't write, you don't call I was beginning to think that I was just another one of your masked heroes" I say into the phone.

"I apologise about that, I'll make it up to you" Coulson says but I can hear the smile in his voice.

"So what does your super secret official unofficial government agency need?" I ask politely to my favourite agent.

"This isn't something that can be discussed over the phone. Meet me at the same warehouse in 10" Coulson says.

"Can do, so you soon~" I reply hanging up.

"Sarah what are the chances of me bleeding out tonight?" I ask my partner as I web up some of the more serious cuts I got from tombstone.

{6% Peter, most of the more superficial wounds have already healed}

"Oh that's quite low" I say surprised.

~Scene Change~

Entering the Warehouse I see Agent Coulson in a suit standing alone in front of a blacked out car.

"Coulson you called" I say standing in front of him.

"Spider-Man, we need your help" Coulson says entering his all business mode. He takes a black covered file from the seat of his car.

"Of course you do, how am I to be of assistance?" I ask generally curious.

"This is the Tesseract, it was stolen from us we'd like to get it back" Coulson says handing over the file.

I take the file silently and quickly flip through it, honestly I'm quite shocked at what I'm reading.

"Are these readings real?" I ask mesmerised by the readings of this block of energy?

"As real as you and me" Coulson states.

"Who took it from you?" I ask continuing reading the file.

"Loki of Asgard" Coulson tells me.

"Are you shitting me?, Loki as in The God of Mischief?" I ask.

"Apparently" Coulson shrugs.

"A simple retrieve and capture. Where do you need me?" I ask.

Coulson smiles seeing that I have agreed to help.

~Next Day~

"*Whistle* TEXI!" I yell out in full Spider-Man gear.

Almost immediately a classic yellow taxi pulls up in front of me. "Spider-man?" The driver questions.

"The one and only" I say hoping in the taxi. "Can you drop me off at the nearest airport please?"

"Ye-yes of course Spider-man" the taxi driver says pulling away from the curb.

"So how's your day been my friend?" I ask starting with some small talk.

"Ah it's New York so it's been busy" The driver says light heartedly.

"Haha couldn't agree more" I agree.

The two of us talk lightly as the taxi driver, whose name I found out was Trevor, drives me to the airport where a quintet will be waiting for me according to Coulson.

"So you leaving New York?" Trevor questions

"Only temporarily, I've been tasked by a super secret organisation to save the world" I explain.

"Ahah I wouldn't expect anything else from our hero" Trevor accepts easily.

"Aww your so sweet" I coo as Trevor pulls over. "How much will it be?"

"No no it's free of charge, you've got a world to save" Trevor waves off.

"Aww come mere gives us a hug" I say gesturing for Trevor to get out of the car.

Trevor quickly gets out of the car, I give him a quick hug and we take a selfie together.

"See you around Trev" I call out waving at him as he drives away.

"Spider-Man?"

"Ahh!" I yelp jumping away from the voice behind me. "Coulson? You almost gave me a heart attack"

"Follow me" Coulson says keeping his professional persona on.

~Scene Change~

~3rd POV~

Entering the Quinjet with Coulson, Spider-man glances around and quickly spots a man who he's only ever seen in the history books. The Captain America.

The Captain stands as we enter the jet and quickly introduces himself. "Steve Rogers"

"Spider-Man, big fan" Spider-man says shaking his hand, "Thank you for you know... fighting Nazis"

Steve briefly raises his brows before he shrugs off Spider-Man's comment. "I've heard about what you do on radio son, it's good to see someone who cares about this city as much as I do"

"Ah shucks, I try" Spider-Man says bashfully. "You live in New York?"

"Brooklyn" Steve answers.

"Ah Queens" Spider-Man replies with a shrug. "But maybe I'll see you round"

"Pilot clear for take off" Spider-Man hears as Coulson say to the pilot. "You guys should strap in"

The three of us strap in, although Spider-Man probably would've been fine, the Quinjet takes off so quickly, that Spider-Man is actually left in awe at its speed and mobility.

"I gotta get me one of these" Spider-Man whispers to himself already thinking of a way to subtly steal/ borrow one.

All three sit in silence as Coulson's eyes flip between Steve and Spider-Man. Spider-Man snuggle's into his seat and rests his head on the wall of the quintet hoping to get some rest. Making sure to activate his sticking powers on his face to keep his mask on, Spider-Man then decides to rest his eyes.

~Scene Change~

"We're about forty minutes out from base, sir" is what Spider-Man hears when he's awoken. Spider-Man spots Coulson stand and walk towards the Captain of thy America.

"So, this Doctor Banner was trying to replicate the serum that was used on me?" Steve questions looking at the laptop given to him, Spider-Man assume's.

"A lot of people were. You were the world's first superhero. Banner thought gamma radiation might hold the key to unlocking Erskine's original formula" Coulson explains.

"Didn't really go his way, did it" Steve comments idly.

"Could've been worse" Spider-Man decided to add with a shrug, which totally gets ignored.

"Not so much. When he's not that thing though, guy's like a Stephen Hawking"Coulson says, but seeing Steve's confusion he explains. "He's like a smart person. I gotta say, it's an honor to meet you, officially"

"I sort of met you, I mean, I watched you while you were sleeping" Coulson then adds not at all creepily.

"That sounds fun" Spider-Man mutters at Coulson's pseudo-creepiness.

Steve shuts the laptop and heads towards the window of the Quinjet.

"I mean, I was... I was present while you were unconscious from the ice. You know, it's really, it's just a... just a huge honor to have you on board" Coulson try's to explain.

"Well, I hope I'm the man for the job" Steve says humbly.

"Oh, you are. Absolutely. Uh... we've made some modifications to the uniform. I had a little design input" Coulson tells him.

"The uniform? Aren't the stars and stripes a little... old fashioned?" Steve asks unsure.

"With everything that's happening, the things that are about to come to light, people might just need a little old fashioned" Coulson says.

"And maybe something a little bit stranger too" Coulson adds looking towards me.

"Hey! I'm not strange, he's a doctor, I'm Spider-Man" Spider-man replies puffing out his chest.

The Quinjet soon lands on top of a massive battleship, that Spider-Man hasn't actually seen before. There's two run ways and a direct access to the hanger at the rear.

The three men leave the Quinjet, as Coulson leads them towards a beautiful red headed woman that Spider-Man recognises as The Black Widow.

"Agent Romanoff, Captain Rogers, Spider-Man" Coulson introduces all three of the future avengers.

"Ma'am?" Steve says/ asks.

"Hello" Spider-Man gives her a friendly wave remembering her from the Stark expo.

"Hi" is all Natasha says before facing Coulson, "They need you on the bridge. They're starting the face-trace"

"See you there" Coulson says before taking his leave. Leave the trio alone for now.

"It was quite the buzz around here, finding you in the ice. I thought Coulson was gonna swoon. Did he ask you to sign his Captain America trading cards yet?" Natasha asks.

"Trading Cards?" Steve asks.

"You've got trading cards?!" Spider-Man exclaims/ asks pulling out his spidey phone. "I gotta get me some of them"

"They're vintage, he's very proud" Natasha comments smirking at the two.

It isn't long before the trio become a foursome as Dr. Bruce Banner soon joins them.

"Dr. Banner" Steve calls out recognise's the man. They quickly shake each other's hands.

"Oh, yeah. Hi. They told me you'd be coming" Banner says looking around nervously.

"Word is you can find the cube" Steve says straightforwardly.

"Is that the only word on me?" Banner asks unsure.

"Only word I care about" Steve replies. Getting a smile from the doctor.

"It must be strange for you, all of this" Banner gestures around the battleship.

"Well, this is actually kind of familiar" Steve says lightly watching the agents run around the place.

"Haha gotcha" Spider-man celebrates winning an auction for Captain America trading cards. Looking up Spider-Man sees the Captain, Doctor and Widow steering at him in amusement.

"Ah doctor Banner, I'm a massive fan. I've read all your papers, truly a fascinating read" Spider-Man rambles to Bruce.

Banner smiles slightly, "Thanks"

"Gentlemen, you might want to step inside in a minute. It's gonna get a little hard to breath" Natasha says interrupting a potential bonding session between science lovers.

The Helicarrier, starts to shake as it begins to take off. All available agents aboard start to strap down all the planes and Quinjets in preparation.

"Is this a submarine?" Steve asks curiously.

"Really? They wanted me in a submerged, pressurized metal container?" Banner rants knowing that it wouldn't end well for anyone.

The trio of Captain America, Bruce Banner and Spider-Man approach the edge of the Helicarrier, and see four huge fans mounted to the sides as the ship begins to take flight. Both Steve and Spider-Man watch in awe as banner backs away from the edge.

"Oh, no. This is much worse" Bruce mutters.
