"I didn't say a thing!" Violet replied coldly, her gaze turning away from him and fixing back on the floor. She refused to think more about Fiona or her presence in the same wing, but Cain's voice broke her train of thought.
"Be careful and stay away from her! She's Eldric's puppet, and Eldric is dangerous!" Cain warned.
Violet nodded vigorously, having heard enough rumors about the dark things Eldric was capable of. There wasn't a single reason she could think of to get mixed up with his daughter—much less one who liked Cain.
Yet a frown still formed on her brow. Before she could dwell on it, Cain stepped closer, towering over her. The intensity in his gaze made her step back, her heart racing as she understood what it meant.
"Cain! It's afternoon, we—" she started, but the words died in her throat as his lips met hers.
