Breaking the loop

[Attempt 900: Failure!]

.

.

.

When will this end …?

This was just pure torture at this point.

He would be fine if he could do, something, no – ANYTHING else!

Which goddamned entity has trapped him in this goddamn loop!

*DING!* *DING!* *DING!* *DING!*

And then there was that annoying repetitive sound.

Was it somehow related to the loop?

No, had already checked that place out sometime earlier.

Had even pushed off the girl from up there.

"SEB!"

Speaking of the girl, she seemed to be yelling someone's name as she called out his name.

"Who is that?"

"That is supposed to be your name!"

"Really now… Let's see. Seb SEB sEb. Hmm, it rolls off the tongue really nice!"

"Can you stop acting like a crazy person?"

"Hmm… but I AM crazy… I think… "

"Seb, it's cold out here, can we stop this and just go home?"

"Thanks for giving me a name by the way. OOH! Do I have a surname too?"

"It's not funny anymore…"

"Hmm… but I am not joking. Seb is a really nice name. I loved it!"

"Stop it … you are scaring me, Seb"

"Stop what?" 'Seb' looked on in confusion as tears started to flow out of the little girl's eyes.

"Please give my brother back to me…"

"What are you talking about… Please stop crying… Here, do you need a tissue?"

"Brother… Please. Did I do something wrong"

'Seb' wasn't sure what he was supposed to do,

He felt that they had already had this conversation many times already…

Well…. It was probably because he had…

"Brother… if it was something I did… I am sorry…"

Seb just looked back at her in confusion.

Why was she apologizing to him?

He was going to kill her.

Didn't she know that?

Did she think that crying was going to change anything?

It shouldn't.

But…

Why was his heart aching so much?

Why did seeing her tears make him want to scream out in agony?

How strange…

But wasn't agony the normal state of existence?

So … it's not like it mattered much anyway.

"Ahh, Look the truck is here."

"The truck?"

"I haven't done this one for quite a while, so just wanted to try it again, I guess. It was the first one if I remember it correctly."

"What are you talking about brother?"

"You will find out soon…"

*SCREECH!*

As the truck came skidding and swerving its way towards them, 'Seb' pushed Luna right into its way.

However, he wasn't able to concentrate properly this time.

He kept on feeling that he had forgotten something really important.

This caused his calculations to be a bit off this time.

Instead of dying on the spot, she still had a few breaths of a life left in her.

This wasn't a good outcome.

Stuff like this only made the pain in his heart worse.

What a blunder!

He leaned his head closer to try and hear her final words.

They managed to come out, albeit they were so weak it might as well have just been his imagination…

"Big … brother… Please don't cry… Luna loves you."

Cry?

Oh…

'Seb' brought his hand to his eyes and…

How strange.

He was crying again.

Again?

How many times had he done this already?

He saw the words of blood on the snow.

He still wasn't sure what these words meant.

It was probably one of the things that he had forgotten.

As he raised a hand to caress her face, and gently close her dull eyes, he managed to spot his reflection in them.

He saw a young boy that looked around fourteen years old. The boy was wearing what seemed to be a school uniform. He had short black hair and abyss like pupils.

While his pupils might have been black as the void, his eyes were full of red veins popping out due to the tears which kept on pouring.

'Is this... me?'

This was the first time that he had seen his reflection in a very long time.

He had already forgotten what he was supposed to look like.

For some reason, his mouth opened by itself as strange words came out of it.

"Don't be sad… Luna"

"Big brother loves you too…"

.

.

.

Why did he say that?

WHY?

Why did he refer to himself as her big brother?

The girl also kept on calling him that…

Did that mean she was really his sister?

Why was he killing her then?

Was this also the entity's fault?

What was his name again?

Seb or something.

Oh yes…

His name was Sebastian Alaister.

And… the girl's name was

"Luna Alaister, my precious little sister."

Just as those words left his mouth, an explosion took place within his mind. It was like the gates to a dam had finally been opened up.

Sebastian's eyes widened in horror as more and more of his memories started flooding back.

"What have I done…."

"More importantly… how long have I been doing this..."

Sebastian's eyes immediately darted towards the crimson writing on the snow.

"Nine Hundred attempts"

Seb couldn't help but feel crushed by the despair.

Somewhere along the line, he had lost control over his sanity and had killed Luna 900 times.

Seb tried to forcibly search through his memories of the attempts, but all he managed to find were the words - Red. White. Red. White repeated over and over again.

And as he remembered more of them, he felt himself starting to slip away again.

No.

He had to end this.

Quick.

He didn't know how much time he had left before he lost his sanity again.

He needed to make the next attempt his last.

One way … or the other.

It is often said that you solve 50% of the problem when you manage to identify the problem.

In certain situations, one might feel that the remaining 50% is an impossible task to complete.

In that case, remember another popular saying -

50% of the problem is solved when you take your first step towards solving it.

So, 50% + 50% = 100%

There you have it, problem solved.

I know, I know, I am a math genius. No need to praise me too much.
