37 Champion

Raising my head, I look at the chuckling Lady Death in front of me, and plead, "Please tell me I'm not your slave?"

Rolling her eyes, Lady Death slides on the stool in front of me. She says, "You're not my slave, my master, nor my servant. Don't worry, little Phoenix."

Phoenix? As far as I know, I don't have the Phoenix Force in me.

"Phoenix as in reborn soul, little Phoenix." Lady Death says, probably listening to my thoughts. She adds, "There are very few truly Reborn souls, and most of them have forgotten about their previous lives. You however, remember everything. Hence, Phoenix."

Nodding, I state, "So you know everything then."

Lady Death nods, and orders a drink from the bar. I order one too, and the server, Tom, comes forth with two Firewhiskeys. Damn, this is a good dream.

She says, "Yes, I know everything. Even if I hadn't met you, ever, even then I would have known everything. Death is eternal, and I am not bound by the constraints of time."

Nodding, I ask, "What can I do for you, Lady Death?"

Sipping her drink, Lady Death answers, "Nothing. At least, not yet. I simply wanted to meet you."

Huh?

"You're fascinating, you know, Little Phoenix. Just by being born you've changed a lot of things, and it fascinates me. I cannot view your future, as it is hidden from even me. Do you know how hard it is to hide anything from Death?" Death asks, getting in my face.

I shake my head, but ask, "Can't the invisibility cloak hide the user from you?"

Death snorts, and goes back to her seat. She answers, "The Cloak is a part of me. I always know where it is, and you cannot hide it from me. The Cloak, however, can hide you from anyone other than me. I simply decide whether or not to kill the user of the Cloak based on their actions. Understood?"

I nod, recognizing the threat for what it is. Clearing my throat, I ask, "Do.. you want the Hallows back? I can obviously give you the Wand and the Stone, but I can't offer you the Cloak, as I don't have it, and I want Harry to have it when he goes to school."

Death chuckles, and puts her hand on my head. Ruffling my hair, she says, "How amusing. Trying to bribe Death. No, I don't want anything. You don't have to worry, and you can keep the Hallows, as you call them."

"Oh. Okay." I mumble, tensing at her touching my head. Remembering something, I ask, "What did the Hallows do to me, when I touched them all at the same time?"

Tilting her head, like I imagine Luna doing to mess with anyone, she answers, "They marked you, silly."

Shaking the image of the Hallows peeing on me, I ask, "What did they mark me for?"

Smiling widely, Death answers, "Why, you're my Champion, of course." While I'm gaping at her, she looks at her wrist, which does not have a watch, and says, "Well, time to go. Enjoy your life, little Phoenix. And I think you'll like the changes you're going through."

Before I can say anything, she disappears from the bar, and I wake up, sweating.

Washing my face, I look at it in the mirror. Nothing's changed there. I check over my height, weight, Strength, magic, nothing was changed, at all.

Getting confused over what she was talking about, I cast a wandless colour changing charm on the mirror and immediately widen my eyes.

Just like how the Crucio has a Red light, expeliarmus has the crimson light, and the Killing curse has the green light, the Colour changing charm is usually visible as light orange beam. Usually.

Right now, it was completely invisible, and if I hadn't seen the colour of the mirror become blue, I would have thought it failed.

"My magic spells have become invisible?" I ask, mumbling to myself.

Shaking my head, I washy face again, and go back to sleep. I'll deal with it in the morning. For now, sleep.

--- 2 Years Later: June, 1961.---

It's been two years since my weird dream meeting with Death. Firstly, I had gone to Aunt Mia myself, to bring the Cloak with me, this time, leaving the Resurrection Stone at my home.

After that, I spent a few hours under the Time Stop spell, along with Helena, so we can see what changed in my magic, and there were a lot of changes. I knew that the Hallows, or Lady Death herself had done something to me, so I wanted to check on it.

Physically, I was still the same. Magically however, my magic spells, when I cast through the Elder Wand, or wandlessly, have become completely invisible. Helena couldn't even sense the magic in the spells. And it works for any spell, enchantment, curse, literally anything.

But, when I use the Acacia wand, my spells are still visible. I prefer using that wand in the open anyway, as other than Dumbledore, no one knew I had the Elder Wand, and even he just suspected that Grindelwald had the Elder Wand.

But that was not all. Those were just the effects of the Wand on me. The Resurrection Stone, gave me the ability to command any free spirit, soul, or ghost. Obviously, I can command any of the ghosts I call back using the stone, but I cannot command the Astral forms of Sorcerers.

As for the Cloak, it made me invisible. Whenever I focus on it, I can become completely invisible, intangible, and I cannot be sensed by anyone below the Cosmic level of Death. Not even my Astral Form stays visible if I focus on it.

No one can feel me, touch me, smell me, or see me, whenever I focus on it. It's like a switch that I have to keep pressing for as long as I need to be invisible.

But, one drawback was that I actually need to focus on staying invisible. With the Cloak, however, I can stay invisible indefinitely. And the Cloak was still with me. I was going to give it to little James when he turns 11.

I haven't seen Death since that Night, so I don't know what she meant by me being her Champion, but I know one thing it means. I can feel the Hallows.

No matter where I am, or where the Hallows are, I can sense them. The surprising part, was that I did not feel 3 parts of the Hallows, but 4. The 4th Deathly Hallow, was too far away for me to do anything. And I don't mean it by saying it's in Australia, or something.

It's Light years away from me. I have no idea how I can go there just yet.

The only other thing I did during these two years, was help take care of baby James, who was born in March last year. He is a really loud baby.

Walburga did give birth to Sirius, a few months before James was born, and we were invited by Dorea's brother, Pollux, to go there for a celebration.

Ah, memories. It was amusing, watching Walburga try not to scowl at me, for being the defeater of a Dark Lord that she supported, and the fact that she still felt I was a mudblood.

Let's see, what else? Oh yeah, Tom. Tom Riddle, my dipshit cousin, killed a woman by the name of Hepzibah Smith, and framed her house Elf for it. He had also killed his father's Family, and blamed my father for it a few years back, but I was at war then, so I didn't know it.

He probably took the fake but still magical ring, and the Cup of Helga Hufflepuff, along with the locket of Salazar Slytherin. But, despite already making at least one Horcrux, he hasn't begun his attacks yet. The only hint of what the future brings, is more and more proposals that will make the lives of Muggleborns and muggles worse than it is.

Just last month's meeting, had 3 such laws. One would have made usage of Veritaserum on Purebloods illegal, another would have made it so attacking any pureblood wizard world be punishable by Azkaban. The last one was the most amusing. It would have made muggle hunting legal again.

The amusing part was the name of the bill was Muggle Hunting Rights Bill. Thank God, I was still too young to be the Chief Warlock. I could just see Ogden rubbing his forehead from all the headaches he was getting.

But, it was a smart move. They tried to take attention away from the first two, which were subtly worded, by making everyone focus more on the Muggle Hunting Bill.

All of them were rejected, but it was too close for the first two Bills. Of the 50 members of the Wizengamot, only 27 voted against the first Bill, while only 25 voted against the second bill. Thankfully, CW Ogden, who had to be the tie breaking vote, voted against it too. Too close.

Sighing, I look at the baby in my arms, who was babbling in baby speak, waving his hands around.

"Don't sigh in my house. Jamie might pick it up from you." Aunt Mia says, softly glaring at me.

Smiling, I say, "Sorry, Mia. It's just.. this is getting harder and harder to deal with. This was the 4th time this year that the Muggle Hunting Bill was brought forward. This time by Rosier."

The Rosiers still hated me, for killing Vinda. What are they going to do? Publicly declare they sympathize with Vinda Rosier, the right hand woman of Grindelwald?

Shaking her head, Mia asks, "What do you think they're planning?"

"War." I softly answer, as James was getting tired after babbling so much, and sleeping. Looking at the horror filled eyes of Mia, I say, "I peaked into the mind of Rosier during yesterday's meeting. He's apparently working for a new Dark Lord, who aims to kill every Muggleborn, or rule over them."

With tears in her eyes, Mia takes James from me, and asks, "How long?"

"10 Years. They're still gathering strength, and an army. They haven't committed any major crimes yet, so I can't even tell anyone about them." I frown in frustration.

As Mia keeps James in his cradle, I say, "I actually came here for that reason. I wanted to cast the Fidelius Charm on the Manor."

Aunt Mia nods, and says, "Do what you feel is appropriate, Mason. I trust you. But wait until Monty gets home."

I nod, and we chat for a while. But, the mood was gone anyway. War was coming, and the only way I can protect my Godson is by hiding him away.

But no matter what, I won't let him harm James.

A/N: Not all chapters are good.

I don't think I'll be able to write James's school days. I'll just skip over it, or I'll get bored. Bored author is a bad author.

Champion of Death, will be exactly what it sounds like. He will find and kill those people who have cheated Death for too long. But, he won't start yet, don't worry.

Tata!
