3 Chapter 3- Dreams of the Past

Mikael sat on the side of his bed, his legs crossed, elbows resting on his knee, fingers interlocked and his chin on his thumbs and his index fingers. He thoughts focused on the man in the purple suit. Focused on the silent cries for help that only he could hear. He had to do something, there was no chance he was letting someone like Kilgrave live especially so close to his own neighborhood.

But he had to return to school tomorrow, it had already picked back up from winter break and he had already missed a couple of days. He knew he could with success ask to stay home for another day or two if he said he needed more rest but then he would likely draw suspicion as to why he was leaving. He reached over to his night stand for his phone only to find it empty.

"Right, lightning and cellphones don't mix. Great, another problem to fix." He sighed. He didn't know what else had changed in his life. He looked around his room and breathed a sigh of relief. From the looks of it not much has changed. Well except for the school calendar on his wall.

'Midtown High School, that's different but why does that sound so damn familiar to me though?' He quickly rummaged through his desk hoping to find the schedule he keeps in one of the drawers.

'Classes are still the same though, the teachers too. Well one less thing to worry about thankfully.' Mikael gave a sigh of relief as he put everything back in place before returning to sit on the center of his bed.

'Alright first things first. School tomorrow, maybe I can push to graduate early. After school I'll take a trip down to that restaurant maybe I can pick up a trail on Kilgrave. Find him, snap his neck, burn the body and I'll be back before dinner. Nice and easy.' Mikael contemplated as he laid down to rest.

'What should I do after I get out of school though? I need resources and materials to prepare for the future. Should I make something from my time in the republic?' His mind continued to question and cycle through information as he began to grow sleepy. A sense of exhaustion washed over him as his head sank further into his pillow.

"I suppose I'll... figure it out... later." He mumbled as his eyes began to shut as sleep for the first time in a long time fell over him.

{A/N: I did a small retcon in the first chapter. I originally put one and a half decades of fighting. That was misinformation on my part I got the dates mixed up. I updated the chapter to reflect the proper timeline of his life during the old republic.}

His eyes opened once more but found that the world he saw was hazy and blurred as though he was looking through a curtain of fog and mist. He saw what he noticed were familiar trees and grassy hills and in the distance the faint outlines of a large building. He noticed a young familiar looking boy rolling over on the ground as he pushed himself to his knees while holding his head in one hand. It was a younger version of him, about 11 years old. He realized what this was, a vision of the past, of the life he left behind.

"Brenthaal, beautiful, comforting, Earth away from Earth. Shame it didn't stay this way." He spoke to himself. He took in the view around him before he noticed the silhouette of a man and little girl approaching his younger counterpart before his vision was fully obscured with the haze. Seconds later it clear and he saw the trio sitting around a campfire, they seemed to be speaking but the voices were jumbled and unclear although he could clearly see their faces now. Satele and his former master Ngani Zho. They had come out to the woods when the master felt what he called a pull in the force and eventually found him. Noticing that possessed an affinity for the force even greater than Satele, Master Ngani had sat them down and tried to convince Mikael to join the order.

"There wasn't much convincing needed. But I did find some small enjoyment in messing with the old man." Mikael remarked as he watched the as the old man's expression shifted from joy to surprise back to joy then shock and finally ending on annoyance, complete with a twitching eyebrow and half smile.

The vision shifted again, now showing Master Zho as he introduced the pair of padawans, older now, to another figure. A zabrak that Mikael immediately recognized with melancholy.

"Master Kao Cen Darach. I know you're just a vision but still I wished I had the chance to thank you." Mikael said as he took a deep breath. He eyes went back to his past self and Satele as the flashes, hums and sparks of their training lightsabers filled the hall they now sparred in as Master Darach watched from the side. For a brief moment Mikael could swear the he was looking directly at him with an all too rare smile on his face as the padawans fought between them.

Satele attacked swiftly mixing in kicks and jumps using ataru only to be met with even force as his younger self defended, deflected and counter attacked using a mix of different styles. He was as Satele began using the force in an effort to gain an upper hand only to fall back into a disadvantage when Mikael did the same.

Then as the sparring continued before him, his vision was abruptly pulled back into darkness until a soft red glow cleared away the shadows and he found himself within a dark stone room lined with four statues of armored figures, each holding a small fire in their cupped hands that lit up the room.

He remembered this place vividly. He had just sent away the group of soldiers that was supposed to deliver the last bunch of artifacts up to Master Darach and Satele in the space station. He stayed behind to make sure they hadn't missed anything or anyone.

But then distant rumble and explosions shook the room and he sprinted out of the ruins as the room began to shake. The roars of thrusters as fighters flew overheard echoed in his ear. Explosions lit up the sky as a few landing crafts that made it past the anti air guns touched down as the rubble of those that didn't fell around them. The doors opening up to darkness before it was quickly lit up with the glow a several red blades.

It was the day it all began. The start of his nearly half a century of battle. The invasion of Korriban had started and he was stranded.
