A/N this is not an alternative universe.

Amid the frozen world, where towering mountains stood defiantly against the relentless assault of heavy snow, Ethan found himself surrounded by an apocalyptic landscape. As he stood before a large portal, fiery orange sparks crackled, hinting at the unpredictability of his sling ring. He sighed, knowing it had acted up once again, on his hand, there was a dim purple crystal, "whats it with me and finding things that affect magic?" Ethan thought as he looked at the crystal in his hand before he put it in his pocket.

Pulling out his fur coat to shield himself from the biting cold, Ethan glanced around the desolate terrain. Memories flashed in his mind, recalling the last time the sling ring malfunctioned and led him to a remarkable flower. It emitted a mysterious energy he could barely sense. "What are you going to surprise me with now?" he wondered, bracing himself for the unknown.

Suddenly, Ethan's instincts kicked in as he spotted massive jaws adorned with razor-sharp teeth lunging toward him. Reacting swiftly, his body instinctively tilted back, causing the creature's attack to miss. As he regained his posture, he turned to face the source of the threat. Observing the creature closely, he took note of its unique features: a polar bear-like frame, slimy skin in shades of grey, green, and red, multiple lashing tentacles, and numerous eyes. "Interesting," Ethan thought, his curiosity piqued.

The creature lunged at him once more, but this time, Ethan was prepared. Eldritch patterns surrounded his forearms, manifesting into two small shields that effectively blocked the creature's assault. Ethan regarded it with a mix of intrigue and caution. "What are you, a demon of sorts?" he inquired, although he knew the creature was unlikely to respond. Its silence suggested a lack of sentience, yet its clever, silent sneak attack hinted at a degree of intelligence.

"Now I am interested," Ethan mused, his determination growing. Leaning back, he brought his hands together, swiftly pushing them outwards. As he did, multiple ethereal arms materialized, accompanying several duplicate versions of himself. Each ethereal clone wielded a different tool and weapon, including a muzzle to keep the creature's mouth shut, along with other devices used in animal rescue operations to contain dangerous creatures.

With a portal conjured, Ethan swiftly directed the duplicates to escort the creature into a containment facility he had constructed within the cave in one of the compartments. It was a specially designed facility meant to safely house and study dangerous creatures. Ensuring nothing escaped, Ethan watched as his four duplicates expertly guided the creature into the containment area.

Taking a moment to catch his breath, Ethan realized that he had a task at hand, one that would provide valuable experience for his spells. He was determined to refine his current arsenal before venturing into new ones. Practicing and gaining theoretical knowledge had taken his spells to the novice mastery level, but he understood that experience was necessary to achieve adept mastery.

Surveying the area, Ethan noticed the emergence of more creatures, all resembling polar bears. A focused determination gleamed in his eyes as he prepared to face them. The environment seemed to respond to his heightened presence, with the wind intensifying and the ground trembling ever so slightly.

Drawing upon his spells, Ethan's first move was to activate the Tao-Mandalas. The eldritch energy formed a shimmering shield around him, its intricate patterns radiating power. He could feel his mastery over this spell was still in its infancy, yet he pressed forward, determined to enhance his skills.

The first creature lunged at Ethan with lightning speed, its jaws wide open, aiming for his torso. In response, Ethan swiftly conjured the Tao-Mandalas spell. The eldritch energy formed a shimmering shield around him, its intricate patterns swirling with power. The creature's teeth clashed against the shield, unable to penetrate its formidable defense. Seizing the opportunity, Ethan retaliated by thrusting his hand forward, unleashing a concentrated Bolt of Balthakk towards the creature's vulnerable underbelly. The eldritch energy bolt struck true, causing the creature to recoil in pain, momentarily stunned.
