8 Death is a B*tch

[Year 1945]

"Time and Death."

These are two of the only few things that scare me. No mortal can escape them… even gods cannot.

But that is only true when you are on the 'normal' earth, not in Marvel.

In marvel, time is a concept of the weak, while Death is a bitch. There are countless beings in this verse that laughs at the concept of time, life, and death. They are nothing but flawed concepts. Time is eternal and Death is false.

Even those who 'die' revive right afterward. Death is not an issue for them.

But for me, it is!

I sighed looking at two letters laying in front of me.

'Steve Rogers crashed into the Arctic.' This one didn't bother me

I know very well that he is alive.

But the second letter did… It was about Joel… or more specifically his parents.

'Nicolas Argent and Chloe Argent passed away in a car accident.'

*Sigh* Joel was never an ideal son… but that didn't change the fact that they were his parents. And that did break his heart.

And this incident made me remember one thing that I wasn't worried about for some time.

.

.

.

And that was my age.

I was 17 when I transmigrated and currently I am 22. Time is passing by soon and I am unable to do anything. I do not have immortality or slow-aging, so death for me is inevitable… Unless I do something.

"Which I definitely will."

I flipped the pages of my diary where the names of countless people were written... Or to be precise, names of beings who were immortal.

Yes... beings, who were either immortal or had slow-aging.

The list was almost endless with names of beings such as-

The one above all, The Beyonders, Living Tribunal, Selene, Abraxas, Vlad, Amatsu-Mikaboshi, Ego, Galan.

And even the ones who had extremely slow aging like James Howlett or Victor Creed.

Or mutants who can maintain a long lifespan by having full control over their body like Sebastian Shaw.

*Sigh*

"Most of the names on the list are useless as I cannot even go close to them or they would smite me."

So that shortens the list by more than half, with names like Sebastian and James being a few of the only viable ones.

"I definitely cannot go with Shaw because of the humongous political support he has. So that leaves James, Victor, and a few others. Most of the mutants who will have immortality are not even born yet."

"James or Victor."

I instantly cut off Victor's name because despite having an incredible list of abilities, his healing factor pales in comparison to Howlett's.

Steve crashed into the Arctic 18 hours ago, and the bombing at Hiroshima took place a few months ago. So James shouldn't have his adamantium yet, which is a good thing because no one would want to go against the Wolverine with indestructible claws.

"Hmm… He should be running away but it shouldn't be impossible to track him."

"I will find him at all cost!"

Maybe I shouldn't look that far and just ask my mother the secret to immortality. Even after five years, she looks the same as the first time I saw her.

It was December, so she was knitting sweaters. When I asked her why she knits, she replied. 'Knitting is my hobby.'

"Mother?" She turned her head towards me with a smile on her face.

"Yes, sweetie?"

"Do you wish to live forever?" This is something that I always wanted to ask her.

She stopped her knitting before looking straight into my eyes. "What made you ask this?"

"Just a random question that popped up in my head." I lied.

She chuckled a little before shaking her head. "No, I don't."

This got me to raise an eyebrow.

"Why?" I asked... but I think I already know her answer.

"It's because of your father."

My father… A man who I don't even remember. Mother says that he passed away three months before my birth. But other than his name and the place he was from.

I know absolutely nothing about him.

His name was Jehan Ansel. But because of some debts that he couldn't pay, he changed his last name to Hanley. Later he met my mother and soon they fell in love.

But a few months before my mother's delivery he was reported dead, murdered by the debt collectors.

We never found his body. *Sigh*

This resulted in my mother having a near mental breakdown but thank the gods, despite all this, my delivery went by without much difficulty.

"He always said, 'Immortality sounds like a boon for those who desire to achieve something impossible. They fail, fail, and fail, but they stand up again until they succeed in achieving that goal. But it doesn't take long for them to grow a void in their heart. They feel like their life is meaningless after completing the goal they were trying to achieve. They have to see everyone they love pass away one by one, yet they neither grow old nor die. Immortality is never a boon, but instead a curse that makes a person turn into a shell of his or her former self.' And honestly, I agree with him. I don't want to live on forever, that sounds boring." She laughed at the end of her sentence.

This made me chuckle as well. Very interesting concept, but not for me. I do not care much about others, other than my mother and Joel, who is almost like a brother to me.

Other than them?

I don't care who lives or who dies.

"You know that I have amassed quite the wealth right?" She nodded. "I was planning on opening a few businesses. And I was wondering... if you would like to be the CEO of the clothing department."

Clothing has always been a major industry and having control over it will be extremely beneficial.

I have been trying to get a solid footing on every industry other than weaponry… That is something that I don't want to get into.

And the internet won't be out for public use before ten or so years… So, it's best to gain a footing in other markets.

Her mouth opened wide along with her eyes. "What?"

"Yes. I am planning to work on multiple projects so I won't be able to focus on this department much. Thus I thought of appointing you as the CEO."

She didn't say anything for a while. "Why not appoint someone with experience?"

I instantly shook my head. "I don't trust others easily. You already know that I am quite a skeptical person. So there is no way, I will allow just anyone to sit on the CEO chair."

I walked towards her. "You don't need to have much experience. We will start small, and as time passes, the company will grow and you will also gain experience along with it."

She contemplated it for a while but agreed nonetheless.

"I will take the position but how long is it going to take to begin the company?" Good question.

"It should be done within a year, as next year I will start most of my projects. But I will launch it after another year… so two years at max." She smiled at that.

"You make me proud, you know that?"

This made me laugh. "You have told that to me countless times."

'Immortality and wealth… That's what I need!'

*Sigh* I realized that the pace of the story... is quite unstable. Some parts are quite fast-paced while some are dragged. But I have already written up to ch 19...So I cannot change these parts so easily.

I will rewrite parts of the chapters (later) when I have a solid chapter count. I already wrote till ch 19 but I still tried to make the chapter from ch 15 better... So yea... there's that.

But anyway. Hope you are liking this story.]
