Loki clearly didn't take the so-called "Supreme Mage" seriously at all. In his mind, taking on a mere human sorcerer would be child's play.
But before he could finish showing off, in the next second, he was gone.
Really, for a "great" mage, why resort to hand-to-hand combat?
Luo Bai shook his head, suppressing a sigh as he thought to himself.
While he was reflecting on this, Polaris, who stood next to him, asked, "Master Luo Bai, where did he go?"
Luo Bai replied calmly, "He's in free fall."
"Free fall?!" Polaris's expression shifted dramatically upon hearing those two words.
After all, she'd experienced the same spell before. Wang had once used it on her. Though it lasted only a few minutes, it had been a terrifying, endless fall through darkness.
Truly... top-tier torment.
That memory was so harrowing that Polaris went silent, unwilling to relive it.
On the other hand, Stark was too shocked to keep quiet.
He wasn't as astonished by Luo Bai opening a portal as he was by what Luo Bai had just revealed: that he was the Sorcerer Supreme.
"Wait, Luo Bai, you're the Sorcerer Supreme?" Stark asked.
Luo Bai nodded in confirmation. "Yes."
Stark was left speechless.
All this time, he'd thought the Sorcerer Supreme and Luo Bai were two different people. He never imagined they were one and the same.
"Then why didn't you tell me you were the Sorcerer Supreme?" Stark pressed.
Luo Bai answered honestly, "You never asked."
"But you said you'd only been learning magic for a few months! How was I supposed to know you're the Sorcerer Supreme?" Stark said, clearly frustrated.
Luo Bai shrugged, offering a somewhat helpless response. "Actually, I only became the Sorcerer Supreme recently. It happened suddenly, so I didn't get the chance to tell you."
"So, let me get this straight. You've only been practicing magic for a few months and now you're the Sorcerer Supreme, the most powerful sorcerer on Earth?" Stark asked in disbelief.
Luo Bai thought for a moment, then replied, "Yes."
Stark still couldn't comprehend.
"...??? How did you pull that off, man?"
"As long as you've got talent... and a little bit of luck."
"Good talent and luck, huh?" Stark muttered, still utterly baffled.
Just a short while ago, Luo Bai had claimed he was only a beginner in magic. And now, in the blink of an eye, he was the Sorcerer Supreme?
Nevertheless, despite his shock, Stark didn't push any further. He didn't understand much about the mystical world and was more concerned about Thor and Hulk, who were still fighting outside.
"Alright. But with Thor and Hulk battling like that, aren't you worried they'll wreck your house?" Stark asked.
Luo Bai shook his head. "Not at all."
With his good fortune, even if the entire country were destroyed, his home would likely remain intact.
Sure enough, after what felt like ages, the noise outside finally died down.
A little later, Nick Fury, Captain America, Dr. Banner, and Natasha Romanoff came inside, along with Thor.
Judging by the looks on their faces, it seemed they had reached some kind of "friendly" agreement after their scuffle.
Otherwise, Thor certainly wouldn't look this calm.
As soon as they entered, they spotted Stark.
Nick Fury, puzzled, asked, "Stark, why didn't you come out to help earlier? You're part of the Avengers. With Earth in danger, why are you holed up in Luo Bai's house?"
Stark might have felt better if Nick Fury had said nothing.
But now that he had spoken, and had the nerve to question him, Stark's irritation flared up.
"Help? Help with what? Help you get the Tesseract back so you can make weapons of mass destruction that could endanger Earth's safety?" Stark shot back sarcastically.
Everyone looked confused.
"Tony, what are you talking about?" Dr. Banner asked.
Stark sneered and decided to spill everything he knew.
"Do you guys even realize what Nick Fury is doing? He's using the Tesseract to develop weapons of mass destruction here on Earth."
"In the process, S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn't control the Tesseract's power, and it sent out a signal to the universe."
"That's why Loki found it and came to Earth to wreak havoc."
As Stark explained, he grew more and more agitated.
Dr. Banner was stunned by what he was hearing.
"Nick, is what Tony said true?" Dr. Banner asked, disbelief written all over his face.
Seeing that the situation was turning against him, Nick Fury quickly countered, "Earth is in danger! We need ways to defend ourselves. Otherwise, if we're invaded again, it'll be like Loki's attack right now. The Earth will be in peril."
"So, you think creating weapons of destruction is the answer?" Stark pressed.
"Tony, don't forget how you made your fortune!" Nick Fury shouted, his temper flaring.
Seeing that Fury wasn't refuting the accusation, Dr. Banner pieced everything together.
"Nick Fury, that's not what you said when you sent Natasha Romanoff to ask for my help," Dr. Banner said, his voice rising.
Just a few hours ago, Natasha had approached him, claiming that Loki had the Tesseract and planned to rule the Earth, and that they needed his help.
Banner didn't want to get involved, knowing he couldn't fully control the Hulk yet. But fearing for Earth's safety, he had reluctantly agreed.
But now, it seemed that Fury had manipulated them, using them to recover the Tesseract to continue his weapon research.
Anger bubbled up in Banner, his body trembling.
Thor, now grasping the situation, couldn't hold back his fury any longer.
"Using the Tesseract to create weapons? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is? You're basically declaring war on the entire universe on behalf of Earth! I absolutely cannot let the Tesseract remain on this planet!" Thor yelled.
Nick Fury scoffed. "Declaration of war? Your brother Loki came to Earth to rule it. Isn't that a declaration of war on us?"
"Loki wouldn't even be here if you hadn't been meddling with the Tesseract and sending signals to alien civilizations. Even if Loki hadn't shown up, your actions would have drawn other extraterrestrial beings to Earth!" Stark shot back angrily.
Off to the side, Captain America asked, "So what? Do we just let these people from Asgard take the Tesseract? What if they use it to make weapons?"
By this point, Luo Bai was accustomed to the Avengers bickering the moment they got together.
Their arguing was starting to give him a headache.
Polaris, noticing the irritation on his face, angrily shouted, "Shut up, everyone! You're disturbing Master Luo Bai."
At the mention of Luo Bai's name, everyone finally quieted down.
Once peace returned, Luo Bai said, "So, you came to my place just to argue in front of me?"
This reminder made Thor remember why he was there in the first place: to find his brother!
How had he almost forgotten that?
"Where's Loki?" Thor asked.
Luo Bai didn't answer verbally. Instead, he opened a portal with his mind.
As soon as the portal appeared, Loki, still falling, crashed to the ground with a loud "thud!"
The next second, Loki's pained voice echoed through the room: "I just free-fell... for 70 minutes!!"
