Chapter 70: S.H.I.E.L.D

The events that occurred in Sokovia quickly spread around the world, with the official explanation being a result of a meteor impact. However, only a few people knew the truth behind it.

In Washington D.C., at the Triskelion headquarters of S.H.I.E.L.D., Maria Hill brought a report to Nick Fury's office.

"Boss," she said, placing the report on his desk. "We found something interesting in Sokovia."

Fury turned his chair around. He was a large man wearing a long-sleeved black coat. If it weren't for his eye patch, it would be difficult to tell that someone was sitting there.

Fury quickly skimmed through the report, frowning slightly. "A large pit of unknown origin?"

"Yes, an hour ago, a huge meteor crater suddenly appeared on the outskirts of Sokovia. The official explanation is that it was caused by a meteor impact." Maria Hill said

Closing the report, Fury looked at his deputy. "I want to know more than what's in this report."

"Before the incident, someone reported seeing a huge blue light in that direction. When people went to investigate, they found the crater," Hill said, hands on her hips.

"Our intelligence personnel in Sokovia have examined the site. It doesn't look like it was caused by a meteor impact or an explosion. It's almost like it appeared out of thin air" she continued.

"They also found a large amount of gamma radiation in the crater. I compared the radiation signature to everything in our database, and only one thing matches it exactly," Hill said.

Fury listened quietly, and his eyebrows raised when Hill mentioned the gamma radiation. "Let me guess, the Tesseract?"

Fury rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache coming on. He waved his hand. "You go ahead and seal this information. Don't put anything about the Tesseract in the file for now."

"Understood."

Hill left, and Fury was silent for a moment before picking up the phone on his desk and calling someone else.

Ten minutes later, a confident woman with a curvy figure and an angelic face, complete with messy hair, walked in.

This woman exuded a seductive charm with every move she made, and her captivating gaze seemed capable of stealing souls. Her slightly upturned mouth added a playful touch to her perfect aura.

If Jack were here, he would surely recognize this old acquaintance as Claire Voyant.

But... is it really her?

"You called for me, Fury!"

Natasha approached Fury, her eyes full of temptation and fixed on him.

"I need you to go to Sokovia."

Nick Fury was unmoved by Natasha's unintentional charm and remained cold: "Investigate the deep pit there. I want to know what was there before, be specific. Also, check the unidentified flying object that crashed there last time. I remember Garrett reported it was accidentally lost due to local warlords fighting, but I think it may not be that simple."

"Understood!"

After Natasha spoke, she turned and left the office.

" The Cosmic Cube"

Nick Fury opened the report again.

He had only seen this level of destruction and energy radiation residue on one person.

But that person should be on the other side of the Milky Way now.

Unknown flying object, the sudden appearance of a large pit, and radiation residue exactly like the Cosmic Cube.

Sigh, it really was a troublesome.

At the same time, on the top floor, Alexander Pierce, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., also gave the same order.

After returning to the ship, Jack went to the room. Wanda was still resting, and Pietro hadn't woken up yet. As a way to thank them for taking care of him these past few days, Jack decided to surprise them.

Ten minutes later, with the information he obtained from Red Queen, he returned to Sokovia. This time, he didn't go anywhere else but went directly to the slums in Sokovia's city area.

He spotted his target in a group of war refugees who were hungry and cold. Then, right in front of everyone, he grabbed a skinny and ragged man and ran off, making people panic.

Returned to the spaceship and locked the skinny man in the room.

He looked at the middle-aged man yelling for help in the room. Jack smirked, "Thank god you're still alive. Otherwise, things would have been more difficult."

"Miss Maximoff has awakened and is looking for you!" The voice of the Red Queen came through, and Jack was overjoyed. "Wanda is awake! That's great! How about Pietro? Has he awakened yet?"

"Probably another hour," replied the Red Queen.

"Okay, we'll wait for him to wake up before we talk."

Upon hearing that he still had an hour to wake up, Jack sighed regretfully and looked at the imprisoned middle-aged man. He muttered, "Let you live for one more hour."

After saying that, he turned and left, soon arriving outside the rest area where Wanda was located.

Before entering, Jack carefully tidied up his appearance. After all, he had just killed someone, and he didn't want to scare Wanda.

Feeling ready, Jack opened the hatch.

Wanda, who had been standing by the window, looking at the stars and the Earth beneath her feet, jumped up like a frightened rabbit when she saw Jack. Without thinking, she grabbed something from the nearby desk and pointed it at Jack to protect herself.

"Um...I don't have any ill intentions, really," Jack said, looking at Wanda with a strange expression on his face. "And even if I did have ill intentions, I don't think a yarog fruit could protect you."

"A yarog fruit?" Wanda finally noticed what she had grabbed, a strange and unfamiliar plant that clearly couldn't be used as a weapon.

Jack tried to appear harmless and said, "Relax, okay? Do you remember me? The person you carried back. Honestly, I didn't expect you to look so small and thin, but you sure have some strength."

He smiled kindly, and it was probably the kindest expression he had ever made in his life. His face even started to feel numb from all the smiling, but it seemed to be having some effect.

Wanda slowly relaxed her guard, remembering that he was the one who saved her and Pietro. He couldn't be a bad person, right?

But then, she suddenly became anxious when she thought about her brother Pietro. She didn't know what had happened to him.

"Are you worried about Pietro? I can take you to see him now. He should be waking up soon," said Jack, seemingly able to read Wanda's mind. He gestured outside the door and said, "Let's go. I'll take you to see him."

Wanda cared more about her brother than being cautious of Jack, so she had no doubts about going with him.

The two of them soon arrived at the medical bay, where there were only a few robots, and Pietro still soaking in the nutrient fluid.

Wanda couldn't wait to walk over and saw that the wound on Pietro's chest had disappeared, and his complexion looked much better. She finally felt relieved.

"He'll probably wake up in about an hour," Jack said, looking at the time. "Do you want to rest or take a tour?"

"I want to stay here!" Wanda's tone was very firm. She needed to see Pietro wake up before she could be at ease.

"Okay, then I'll stay with you!" Jack agreed.
