65 Slaughter & Poetry

As for the Jabari tribe on the snow-capped mountains of Wakanda, who lived in harmony with nature and didn't even possess guns or phones, Zane didn't care at all. According to the original story, their leader seemed quite quirky, always chirping and yelling. Sending a team of molecular robots over would probably be enough to wipe them out.

Once everything was settled, Skynet would build a super fortress belonging solely to Zane inside the protective shield, where many inconvenient tasks could be completed.

After receiving Skynet's affirmative reply, Zane nodded expressionlessly. He believed that Skynet's capabilities would ensure everything went smoothly.

Then Zane stored his newly acquired pet, Little Black, into the [Death Realm] and used [Flash] to return home, where he could rest his weary soul.

Upon returning home, Zane took off his clothes and threw them into the trash, then entered the bathroom, letting the warm water wash away the smoke and the bloody smell from his body. Afterward, he changed into loose casual clothes that Lorna had bought for him.

Sitting dazed on the sofa, lost in thought, Lorna suddenly appeared behind him and hugged his neck.

"Zane, you're back."

"Yeah." Zane forced a smile.

Even a fool like Lorna could tell that something was wrong with Zane at the moment. She asked with concern, "Zane, what's wrong?"

Zane picked up Lorna, placed her in his lap, remained silent for a while, then said heavily, "Lorna, do you think if a person slaughters millions of people for their own benefit and feels no remorse, has their personality become twisted?"

Upon hearing Zane's words Lorna didn't immediately answer his question but instead put Zane's head on her slender thighs and kissed him lightly before calmly replying:[1]

"There's a poem that I think is the answer to your question. It goes:

In this world, the strong prey on the weak,

Even if you're in the right, it's in vain.

You need not ask, for a man must act like a man.

A man's actions should be ruthless,

Kindness and duty cannot coexist.

A man's duty lies in the battlefield,

With the courage of a bear and the eyes of a wolf.

A man's duty is to kill,

And not to let his heart be swayed.

A hundred battles, a hundred wishes,

Everywhere, one wishes to thrive like wild grass.

A man should not tremble in battle,

Listen to this song, my dear:

Killing one is a crime, but killing millions is heroic. Slaying nine million makes one the greatest hero!"

After hearing Lorna recite this poem, Zane's heavy expression gradually disappeared. Lorna continued:

"There's another saying: 'To wear a crown, one must bear its weight!' My dear, this is something you should bear. You don't need to feel guilty or blame yourself. In this world, we only live for ourselves. Why bother about others?"

{I have modified the meaning here. Here even though she is not sure but still she thinks that Zane killed someone and it was necessary so she starts to comfort him.}

After saying these words, Lorna looked deeply into Zane's eyes, and Zane, not disappointing her expectations, gave her a wicked smile, then sat up and gave her a passionate kiss, so intense that even Lorna felt a pang of pain.

"Haha, Lorna, you're such a weirdo!"

Zane pressed his forehead against Lorna's, staring into her deep green eyes, and said cheerfully. At this moment, Zane was nowhere near as heavy as before. His demeanor had become sharp. If someone were to see him now, they would instinctively look away, as his eyes seemed to pierce through them.

"Aren't you the same?" Lorna smiled as she looked at Zane, feeling happy to see him finally letting go of his burdens.

"Yeah! You're right. Living for ourselves and for you is enough. There's no need to worry about anything else. I haven't thought through things as thoroughly as you have." Zane shook his head self-deprecatingly.

"Before, I could only starve in the corner by myself late at night. That's when I understood this truth."

"In the future, you won't have to do that with me by your side," Zane said with concern.

"Yeah." Lorna smiled sweetly and leaned her head on Zane's shoulder.

Encountering someone who genuinely treats you well and whose personality is similar to yours is really not easy in this world. Although Zane and Lorna's personalities are somewhat different from the norm, one might even say they are unconventional, their meeting could be considered destined!

"Hey, Lorna, when did you learn poetry and even recite ancient poetry?" Zane suddenly remembered that Lorna had just recited "A Man's Journey" poem and asked curiously.

"Zane, I saw that other day and you were admiring poetry on your phone. So I took some time to learn a few ancient poetry, but the culture of poetry is truly immense! Even after studying for a while I've only scratched the surface."[2]

"Of course, it's the crystallization of the efforts of generations, how could you learn it all at once," Zane said.

Zane was deeply touched that his girlfriend was willing learn poetry for him. Although he was just scrolling some content as he was bored but he won't couldn't say that to Lorna, obviously.

"Zane" Lorna nestled in Zane's arms, as if suddenly remembering something.

"What's wrong?"

"We're about to enter university soon, which one will you choose?"

"Do you even need to ask? Wherever you go, I'll go."

"But the school I want to attend, it seems like you won't be able to get in with your grades!" Lorna teased.

Upon hearing his girlfriend's tease, Zane felt a bit embarrassed. Somehow Lorna had surpassed him academically in just over a month since enrolling.

"Don't worry about that. If needed, I'll just donate a building to that school. I don't believe I won't get an acceptance letter," Zane said confidently.

Lorna looked at Zane's confident expression and rolled her eyes.

"Good morning, it's 7 o'clock now. Today's temperature is 22 degrees Celsius, mostly cloudy. The height of the waves is between waist and shoulder level, suitable for surfing. Big waves are expected to arrive at 9:57 am. Have a pleasant day."

With a burst of electronic sound, the curtain blocking the bedroom window was automatically pulled open. Warm sunlight fell on the figures of the two people in bed. Zane rubbed his eyes sleepily, grabbed a T-shirt and boxers from the bedside, then leaned down to kiss the still sleeping Lorna. They had stayed up 'playing' too late last night.

[1] clever Lorna instantly understood that he was referring to himself.

[2] "My dear, aren't you Chinese? So I took some time to learn, but Chinese culture is truly profound! Even after studying for a long time, I've only scratched the surface."

"Of course, it's the crystallization of the efforts of generations, how could you learn it all at once," Zane said proudly.

Zane was deeply touched that his girlfriend was willing to understand the culture of his homeland.
