Chapter 8

After waiting until it got dark and confirming that his mother was fast asleep, Jax grabbed the Holocron and teleported back into his empty warehouse, ready for the work to begin. The whole warehouse was actually quite massive in size, and including the land all around it, accounted for a whole block, which gives him roughly around 100,000 square feet to work with.

The issue was, the whole area was ancient and looked to be in a state of disrepair as there were countless collapsed walls, floors, and roofs, and the whole site had been reclaimed by nature.

The other main issue was that this area of East Harlem was rife with crime and all sorts of illegal activities which made no one bother with the area, not even Wilson Fisk.

But Jax was different, as he had certain advantages that no one else has, for example, the Lair Builder. As Jax pulled out the sleek, black tablet, the screen lit up with the opening screen of the app. After pressing the 'Start' button, a powerful light burst out of the Tablet and blanketed the whole warehouse, scanning it. When Jax could see again, he looked down and saw what looked like the entire property was on the screen of the tablet in the image of an interactive diagram, almost like a Sims game.

'Well, this is fun. Now, the first thing I need to do is properly secure this property. I don't want any baseheads trying to camp out in my lair.' Jax said, tapping a few buttons on the screen.

He saw a 'Help' tab on the side of the screen and read the instructions for the app. Apparently, all he had to do is make all of the necessary changes he'd like first, and when he presses the 'Done' button, all of the changes will occur in real life. Nobody outside of him will see the property change and will only see the "finished product" when it's done.

'Well, that's convenient. Not sure how I'll explain how the fortress I'm about to build just randomly popped up, but we're out of the way enough for not too many people to bother with it. Back to cheating with the Sims Builder!' Jax thought to himself excitedly.

Jax wasn't much of a Sims player before, but there was something about actually building a base in real life like this that got his blood pumping and made him engrossed. Hours later, Jax looked at the screen and was satisfied with his adjustments. He was confident it was the nicest complex that East Harlem had ever seen. He just wished he had more building options, but since it was only the "Basic" edition, he had to just deal with it.

Pressing the 'Done' button, a stronger burst of light appeared, and when it cleared, Jax was standing in an entirely different building. The entire property was now completely fenced in with high concrete walls, mounted with barbed wire, bright lights, and 24hr surveillance cameras. The building itself underwent a huge change and now looked like a cross between a futuristic fortress and a castle.

It had tall walls and fortified roof platforms with areas for mounted guns and artillery cannons. The whole building had five corners with minimal blindspots, and in the center of the complex stood a fortified towered that overlooked the city. And all over the building were glowing, purple lights that made the whole structure both breathtaking and intimidating.

Jax had built several other buildings on the complex to act as warehouses and barracks for his future soldiers, should he choose to go that route. Jax also built several floors underground which will house his labs, future experiments, and even indestructible glass prison cells to hold his future prisoners.

Was it a lot? Yeah, definitely. But, owning a fancy building wasn't illegal, nor has he done anything illegal, so he didn't think anyone would make a big deal about it. Plus, now that he owns a realty company, Jax plans to buy even more properties so that he can own a part of the city just like the other rich people did in every universe. Jax just had more of a vision than those other rich guys, and he planned to see it through by first buying all of East Harlem and turning it into the next powerhouse of a city.

When the building was finished, needless to say, it garnered a lot of attention, as Jax had officially changed the skyline of the city practically over night. Not only all of East Harlem came to marvel at the building, but even some powerhouses took notice to it.

Inside of S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters, an agent ran into Fury's office to deliver a report. Reading the report with his one good eye, Nick Fury, the dark brown, bald Director of SHIELD, wore a frown. So much unexplainable stuff had been happening lately, and now a random fortress had popped up in East Harlem over night.

SHIELD naturally did an investigation, but it only left them with far more questions. The property was listed under a new overseas company called, Shade Realty Group, and the CEO was the previous owner, Michael James, who until a little while ago was just a down on his luck realtor. But the strangest part was, the owner was listed a 16 year old boy from Midtown named, Jaxon Wolfe.

Now, while normally it is illegal for a minor to own property like this, that doesn't pertain to overseas companies, so technically it wasn't illegal for Jax to own this company, and since the company owns the property, it wasn't illegal for him to own the fortress either.

Legally speaking, everything was on the up and up, but it still didn't sit right with Fury. Where did a 16 year old highschool student get the money to own an overseas company and build a fortress practically over night?

"Could Hydra be involved?" Fury asked himself. They had just unearthed the popsicle named, Steve Rogers, and then Tony Stark was Kidnapped, and now this. As if she heard him about to call her, his beautiful Deputy Director, Maria Hill entered with even more files in her hands.

"I did a little more scooping on this, Jaxon Wolfe, and he's a mystery through and through. Born and raised in Atlanta Georgia, him and his mother, Jada Wolfe recently moved to Midtown so that Jada could start her new job working as a geneticist at Oscorp. Now, while they were in Atlanta, they were apparently flat broke, with the mother forced to work multiple jobs while finishing school just to provide for them. But records show that this, Shade Realty Group, spent just over 7 million dollars to acquire the previous, James Realty Family." Maria said a she handed a file to Fury.

"Now here's a kicker, when they moved here, Jaxon was apparently an average student with sub-par grades, chubby physique, and a weak disposition, which led to him getting bullied a lot. But, a little while after he moved here, he took a few sick days and came back almost a new person. He grew taller, has muscles, got smarter as his grades are now the top in the school, pretty much a whole new person. And apparently a few days ago, his friend, Peter Parker also went through the same dramatic change, just not to the same degree as Jaxon." Maria said, handing Fury a file showing Jaxon and Peter's before and afters.

Looking at the pictures and hearing the information, Fury didn't know what to make of this enigma. "So what are you telling me, that this kid just became wealthy, handsome and a genius over night? Were there any shooting stars recently?" Fury joked as he rubbed his face, suddenly tired.

"I wasn't sure what to make of it either, so I started looking for any holes that needed filling, and stumbled on one, he has no father." said Maria.

"So what? Many black kids don't know their father, hell, I run the biggest intelligence agency in the world and still don't know my father!" Fury joked, but Maria ignored him and continued.

"I understand that, but something didn't sit right, so I dug a little further. Michael James' daughter, Kimberly James, apparently texted a group of her friends the night that her dad's company was bought. They apparently had to meet at the warehouse at night, and the other party was a man hiding in the shadows and wore a black armored suit and helmet. She said he sounded old and scary, but her father didn't care after the mystery man apparently pulled out a few million in cash to pay for everything to be done quietly and have it left to his "Apprentice", Jaxon Wolfe." Maria said, showing Fury the texts.

"Damn, so now it's even more complicated. Let me guess, you think this mystery man is the kid's long lost daddy or something? Though it is strange, as I said already, everything is still legal and accounted for." said Fury, reading through the texts.

"Either his father, or some kind of culprit using the kid as a beard for his business. What kind of estranged father starts a multi-million dollar company over night and just hands it over to a kid he's never taken care of?" asked Maria.

"A rich one? Rich people do weird shit all the time. I've seen a motherfucker pay loads money for young girls to cover themselves in peanut butter while he dressed up like a damn dog and licked it off of them. Do you want to know the kicker? The motherfucker was allergic to peanut butter! The moral of the story is, motherfuckas with too much money do weird shit, but it's not always illegal." Fury said simply, as though it made perfect sense.

Disgusted by the mental image of the story, Maria moved on. "Anyway, my gut is telling me there's more to this story. I say we should send one if our younger agents and have them go undercover at Midtown Highschool. I recommend we sending Natasha Romanoff, who just defected from the KGB. She's been sidelined due to her just defecting, and I think this will be the perfect assignment to help build her reputation and earn our trust." Maria said, handing over Natasha's files.

As always, Nick Fury was impressed with his deputy director's work and didn't want to imagine what kind of hell running SHIELD would be without her.

"If it can help you feel better, be my guest. You have my full approval for the operation, but don't go overboard Maria. Remember that this is still a kid, a kid who apparently has never even had gotten a write up in school, so don't go making him into a criminal unnecessarily." said Fury before he dismissed Maria.

'Why do I get the bad feeling that messing with this boy is going to backfire on land on me?' Fury asked himself before he got back to his piles of work.

Jax had no idea that he had just landed himself in the sights of one of the biggest intelligence agencies in the world, and if he heard their discussion, he would both laugh and shed tears from his new toy attracting too much attention.

After looking around the base and making his way up to his suite on the top of the spire, the elevator opened up to a beautifully decorated suite with a 360 degree view of the entire city. East Harlem wasn't exactly much to look like at the moment, but when he was done, it would put the rest of New York to shame.

Sitting behind his large marbled desk and looking out of the window, Jax figured now was the perfect time to pick his henchmen so that they'll watch the place for him.

Pulling out the flip phone from his inventory, Jax flipped the phone open to find that just like the tablet that popped out of existence after he pressed done, the phone was built with only one function. At the top of the screen read, "Pick your henchmen!", and on the side had a counter that read, "0/10".

Below the top message was a list of what Jax assumed to be difficult types of henchmen. There was Thugs, scientists, Jocks, Lizardmen, Elves, Dwarves, etc. There were countless types of henchmen that Jax could choose, and they weren't limited to just humans or this universe either. Honestly, Jax was shock by how much he could completely break the lore of this world with just 10 henchmen.

This time, Jax was stumped. He was tempted to choose fantastical henchmen and have a small, powerful crew, but he feared that he was already drawing too much attention with the fortress and didn't want to push it by bringing out a full team of elves or something this world would see as a monster.

After much deliberation, Jax decided to hedge his bets and get max profits. He selected 5 Combat droids, 3 shinobi, 1 scientist and one quirk-user. Now, there is a good reason that Jax broke it down like this. Just like with the tablet, the phone also had a 'Help' button, and he found out that the henchmen he summons are loyal to him exclusively, but still have minds of their own at times. This will help them grow and essentially level up their skills in a way that other people do naturally.

First, Jax chose the combat droids for a few reasons, one, he is studying robotics and is hoping to start a tech company in the future. If he could study one of the droids and replicate the technology, not only would it not be strange for them to be protecting the fortress, he could build an army of unquestioning and loyal soldiers. Jax knows that Hydra exists in this world, so if he can eventually make most of his forces into droids, he won't have to worry about being infiltrated by spies.

Second, Jax chose Shinobi for an obvious reason, they are almost naturally born super soldiers who are some of the greatest spies, assassin's, soldiers, doctors, you name it, and shinobi excell at it. They all have Chunin strength, which in itself is rather impressive. Plus, chakra naturally exists on earth as well, so what if he had more shinobi trained and started his own Hidden Village of sorts?

Third, Jax chose a scientist for another obvious reason. He's planning on starting a company ran on scientists, but he himself is not really a scientist yet, plus he can't always take out the time to complete different experiments. So, he summoned a scientist who Jax will invest in and have them heading his science division in the future.

Lastly, Jax chose a quirk-user from the MHA universe because they would fit so well as a mutant in the Marvel universe. But unlike mutants, the science around quirks has already been identified and studied in that world. Plus, quirks have a much better chance of passing on to their offspring than the X-gene does, so Jax planned to have this person become a breeder of sorts. Plus, Jax wanted to study the quirk gene as well.

What if Jax could isolate the quirk and the X gene, then transmit them to everyone in the world? That way, when the earth eventually gets invaded, everyone can fight back against Thanos, Loki, or whoever else decides to take on earth? But Jax was slightly wary of this plan, as he did not want the Ancient One to come after him for messing with the world. Though she seemed nice in the movies, he knew she didn't play if someone endangered the earth.

'Maybe I should see if I can learn magic from them too? Sure I have my Marks, but they're limited and not nearly as convenient as portals. I'll check them out after I graduate and move out of mom's house. I remember that it took Doctor Strange forever to learn magic.' Jax thought to himself as he added something else to his future to-do list.

Little did he know, the Ancient One was already watching him closely, and he'd be meeting her far sooner than he thought.
