Jinx(chapter 22)

However, his happiness was short-lived as confusion replaced it. Watching his spiritual force trickle down with no change taking place, Adam realized that ten minutes had passed and the supposed spell model had dissipated. Frustration clouded his features as he left his sea of consciousness.

"It ain't the structural integrity," he muttered, staying silent for another ten minutes before diving back into his sea of consciousness. This time, he tried something different. Using the abundant plain mana in his sea of consciousness, Adam crafted a pair of shoes with wings attached to each side. "With these, hopefully, I can fly, like Hermes," he wished.

After maintaining the construct for a couple of minutes, a new spell model formed. It joined the others that floated above him. "If solidifying spell models on magical items removes the spell model from the sea of consciousness, then it won't be overcrowded in here once i start making magical items," he mused, although he wasn't in the mood to celebrate. "I just either have to find a magical item or make one myself."

Standing up from his chair, Adam glanced at the wooden figures he had carved, ranging from his early attempts to his latest creations. The improvement was visible, and a smile spread across his face. "Maybe creating my own magic items isn't a bad idea."

His smile faded as he glanced at the open notebook of magic letters and symbols. "I need a breath of fresh air," he groaned. "But it's probably not going to end well." Predicting what would happen the moment he stepped outside, Adam sighed, preparing himself for whatever awaited him.

The sun had already set, casting long shadows across the empty streets of New York. Amidst the silence, shrill shrieks echoed, reverberating between the buildings and along the roads. Something fast darted through the darkness, a quadrupedal carnivore with a distinctive white hue, possibly due to a lack of skin pigment. Roughly as tall as a man but twice as long, it had a hunched appearance, its two front arms tucked under its chest, and two tentacle-like limbs protruding from its upper rear.

With three toe-like pads on each leg equipped with razor-sharp claws, the creature moved with lethal precision. Its forearms bristled with spikes, and its rear featured long, sharp spikes pointing backward. Each tentacle ended in a three-digit claw surrounded by tufts of sharp spikes, capable of projecting bony spikes with high speed and accuracy. Its face inspired fear, with binocular vision, a nose plate, and a large mouth filled with rows of teeth designed for slicing and tearing.

As it prowled, **CLICK CLACK**, a can fell from a dumpster, prompting two black objects to shoot from its tentacles, pinning it to the ground. But before the can made another sound, a white hand wielding a blade emerged from the opposite direction, impaling the creature's head. Fifty feet away lay several more dead creatures, bearing wounds inflicted by blades.

Not far from the massacre, Adam emerged from the labyrinthine alleyways, bleeding and panting, chased by more of the alien creatures. His magic sword deflected spikes, but some still found their mark, causing intense pain that he pushed through. The alleyway led to a dead end, a wall standing seven feet tall, but Adam didn't hesitate. With a new spell, he conjured four wings on his ankles and leaped, soaring over the wall by three feet as his magic sword dispatched one creature after another.

Landing on the other side, his magic hand wielding his katana, Adam felt the strain of having three spells active. "Fuck, why did I jinx myself?" he groaned, canceling the magic sword before preparing another spell. Within seconds, more aliens appeared, but Adam engaged them with his magic hand as he jumped back ten feet into the sky. As spikes struck where he had stood, he fully cast the mana snake, which was all he needed to get rid of the rest.

In the midst of the night, an exhausted Adam could be seen, his injuries being tended to with the healing lotus. "What the hell was that, a fucking swarm of alien spike-shooting pale motherfuckers?" Adam was utterly flabbergasted. After leaving his boat home to catch a breath of fresh air, he found himself at a bustling subway station. Unable to resist, he liberated some wallets, earning himself a small sum of cash which he promptly used to buy a large pack of pizza. Downing the entire thing, he even had an encounter with Spider-Man, who swung by and snatched a slice of his pizza, much to Adam's irritation, which he vowed to get back the pizza that was owed to him. Gazing out into the city, Adam meditated and practiced with the mana string, attempting to release his frustration. However, the universe seemed intent on ruining his moment of peace by sending monstrous devils his way. To make matters worse, he couldn't outrun them or create enough distance to cast spells. They relentlessly impaled him with spikes, which, surprisingly, weren't poisonous, but still required painful removal. "When I catch whoever is sending these monsters," he groaned as he extracted the last spike before healing himself, "I better get back before more of them spawn." Rising to his feet, he surveyed his ruined clothes before pocketing a wallet with some cash in it.

Author's Note: Another chapter! Hope you guys liked it. Yes, those were the White Spikes. There are going to be more monsters from other movies and TV shows, like the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who or the Doctor himself. I wonder how fast the Doctor would kill Adam. Anyways, it's not going to be easy creating the spell circles to cast spells, like other mages, as he has requirements he needs to fulfill.
