Chapter 2: Getting used to the Ghost

[Congratulations Host on equipping your first template!]

[As a gift for your first template Jeff left you with a passive move called {Rest} so that you don't die too quickly!]

'Ah! So Jeff is looking out for me, I mean he is the one who threw me into this death trap of a universe in the first place.'

[I have served my purpose by introducing you to the System and to the basics. Before I forget, to transform into a Pokémon all you have to do is say 'Shift and the name of the Pokémon you want to become' to automatically shift to that Pokémon, but don't worry you don't have to say it out loud! And don't forget your other coupon. Goodbye Host!]

"Eh!? So the System won't talk anymore? And what did it mean by other coupon?"

As I looked in my inventory I saw a coupon for the Pokémon Gacha. How is the gacha any different from the roulette?

'Hmm ... I see! the gacha is for items that originate from the Pokémon universe, mainly consisting of potions and ethers that act like health and stamina potions as well as mega stones. It also seems to include random items that may prove useful or useless like a one time use Quicksilver clone shield!'

Ha I know what everyone's thinking, what a useless item that is.

On to more important things.

I sat up from the bed in my new apartment observing everything around me. It was a simple room that had way too much white, I mean everything was white. The bed, the sheets, the walls, and even the desk. I'm much more into darker colors myself, reminded me of a rich man who fought crime at night in his black cowl and cape.

*sigh* 'Jeff said that he would drop me off a week before the Battle of New York so that gives me a few days before Loki appears and the fights start, the best thing I can do now is familiarize myself with my new powers and the streets of New York City.'

"Alright lets use this gacha coupon and find out what moves I'm starting with since Jeff said my first template would start at 60%."

"Use Pokémon Gacha Coupon!"

[Ding! Ding! Ding!]

[Congratulations Host for drawing 10 Potions]

'Hmm not bad, they heal up to 20% of my health but will become less effective as my level goes up.'

"Ok, next, System show me the {Gastly Template}!"

[Pokémon Template: Gastly

Gastly the gas type Pokémon made up of a poisonous gas that causes its enemies to faint if they are enveloped, Gastly can squeeze through small spaces and its gas emits a fragrant smell. Gastly fear strong winds and if Host encounters strong winds they will be forced out of their transformation for safety purposes.

Moves:

1. Confuse Ray - A move used to put a target in a state of confusion having a 33-50% chance of causing the target to hit themself.

2. Hypnosis - A move used to put the target to sleep ranging from 3 seconds to 60 minutes depending on the target's strength and whether they are conscious or unconscious.

3. Lick - A move that damages a target by licking them with Gastly's toxic tongue, this move has approximately a 33% chance to paralyze the target. Effects vary in accordance with the target's strength.

4. Disable - A move used to disable a target's attack for 3 seconds to 3 minutes, whether it be jamming a weapon, blocking a target's energy, or disarming the target.

5. Hex - A move that damages a target and does twice its original damage count if the target suffers from a status ailment.

(A/N: Any suggestions for his last three moves? I was personally thinking something like detect, protect, and obstruct. I'm kidding, I'm not that much of a menace, I'm saving all the moves like these in case I ever get a metapod from the randomizer.)

"Oh my Jeff, I almost hate myself just looking at these moves! This is insane, it's like trying to fight a group of Draugr Deathlords that keep spamming Fus Ro Dah (unrelenting Force) and Zun Haal Viik (Disarm). HaHaHa and with Gastly's maneuverability I'll be able to pass through a battlefield easily!"

After having checked out his coupon and template, Azrael thought it would be important to prepare for the battle ahead of him. He left his apartment and started to wander the from street to street trying to find places where citizens would be safest or could be used as shelters. Although Azrael wouldn't consider himself to be a hero he thought it would make a good impression to show strong leadership qualities as he fights the Chitauri, plus he saw no reasons for innocents to die because they were caught between a fight of the powerful.

Having found locations across the boroughs mainly being schools or government buildings and memorizing the streets so he knows where he would know where to go, he decided to head to Central Park and get accustomed to his transformation between man and Pokémon. Rae had reached a small patch of trees where he thought no one would notice him if he practiced shifting back and forth.

Although the link had started at 60% Azrael had never transformed before so he did not know what to expect as he transformed. His experience isn't truly equal to his 60% link, that was only a way for the god Jeff to give him some power to survive. It's like being given hand-me-down clothes, they're yours but it wasn't always yours. Azrael had to grow into the link that was passed down to him, and the best way to do that was to spend more time using his ability.

As Azrael reached the trees he shouted in his mind, 'Shift Gastly!', *FWOoosh* *Pop*. If anyone had seen what had just occurred, they would have screamed bloody murder. When Azrael stepped forward it looked as though he was falling forward but his head had begun to emit a purple and black gas, his feet were lifting off the ground as his body started to rotate forward and became gas quickly forming into a ball with large emerald, green eyes. If one looked closely, they would also notice another change from the original Gastly, small wisps of green gas occasionally appeared among the swirling mas of purple and black. It seemed that Azrael's gas was far more poisonous than the common Gastly.

The hours of the night dwindled by while Rae continued to shift between human and ghost. He continued to grow accustomed to the changes and was able to transform faster and faster, starting at between 5-7 seconds, lowering to 4-6 seconds and after the 4th hour of transformations he had gotten it down to a second and a half. Since it was nearing midnight Azrael decided to return to his apartment, rest, and think about what the future holds. Planning to work on his movement and speed on the way to the apartment he decided to fly as Gastly on the way back.

That's when he came across a group he had no plans to associate himself with until he was strong enough.

He heard a shout that truly scared him.

"You will not leave this dimension alive you fowl spawn of evil!"
