Chapter 071 Coulson

Chapter 071

'Dealing with The Lizard was enough to tire me out. But now, I have to deal with Shield.'

Alex thought as he picked up his coffee cup, eyes glancing over at the coffee shop that was 'rented' by Shield for some hours.

Shield agents were standing at the door, holding guns while the owner of the coffee shop was shivering slightly behind the corner, his eyes looking around nervously.

"I didn't think I would meet Shield this soon. My last talk with Fury was quite… nice but I didn't know you all would need me after just two months."

He said, looking up to a man who gave him a bright smile. His name was Phil Coulson, Fury's right hand and one of the top agents of Shield.

Coulson has called Alex when he was having breakfast, wanting to talk about something.

Curious to know what Shield wanted, he came here.

"We don't exactly need you." Coulson said, looking up to him. "I wanted to talk about Dr. Connors with you. You do know what he has done in his other form in the last few weeks has attracted a lot of attention."

Alex raised an eyebrow at that. 

He knew that Shield was going to take over The Lizard case, just because of how it was connected to a serum that could potentially create an army of giant Lizards.

But he didn't think that they would contact him.

"So, what do you want to know?" He asked, keeping an eye on Coulson's expression.

"You solved this whole thing with your friend, so just some questions about it. Particularly about Dr. Connors and the Lizard serum."

"You are calling it that? You should hire someone to make better names."

Alex chuckled but Coulson didn't seem pleased. Knowing that he meant business, he shook his head and began talking with a serious tone.

"Well, Dr. Connors… I don't know him personally."

"You know The Lizard."

"Yeah, and The Lizard is crazy. The serum probably messed with Dr. Connors' mind and took his desire to create a world without outcasts to a scary point." He said, then asked. "What are you gonna do with him now that he's in your custody?"

Coulson thought for a bit before opening his mouth.

"We are currently examining his body to remove every bit of the Lizard serum from it. He will probably be sent to a mental hospital but there is pressure to send him to the Vault."

For the record, Vault was one of Shield's secret facilities. Even Abomination was sent there after the Duel of Harlem.

Alex knew this because of the documents given to him by Shield. Thinking of something, he said to Coulson. 

"I don't think Dr. Connors should be sent there. The Lizard was kind of like a split personality. It was controlling him. It wouldn't be right to send him there."

Coulson sighed.

"We can't go with what's right and wrong here. It's for the Council to decide. No matter what, he attacked a high school. You should know, after all you were there too."

Alex nodded, thinking that it was how the world worked. He can't save everyone. 

Although Dr. Connors couldn't be saved currently, there was a chance Shield would get interested in his abilities as a scientist in the future and recruit him.

Stuff like that had already happened in the comics after all.

"What are you gonna do about his research?" Alex asked as he took another sip from his cup.

"Confiscate it. It's too dangerous to be out in the open. We will try to examine it and most probably destroy it." He added after a frown. "If we try to go on with it just because of the potential it holds, we are endangering others' because if even one thing goes wrong, there's gonna be a lot of trouble."

Alex agreed with it.

They talked a bit more about Dr. Connors, Oscorp and even Peter. Then, the topic suddenly shifted to Avengers Initiative.

Alex was really curious about it as he was pretty sure that the Avengers events were gonna happen next. Though, there was a possibility of another conflict with the Hand or even something else popping up.

"What's going on with the Avengers Initiative?"

"You can say we are having problems with that. The council doesn't want a team like that and they want us to focus more on weapon development. So, they are on hold."

"Not disbanded?"

Alex asked, not surprised by Coulson's words. Before the start of Avengers 1, Fury had started to work on the tesseract because of the council.

Of course, as the Council was partly Hydra, they probably wanted to focus on weapon development because of that.

"We haven't given up on the idea yet. Director Fury is in talks currently and we already have most of our members."

"That's nice."

"Call me anytime."

Coulson smiled at that and suddenly changed the topic to something which surprised Alex.

"Aside from being a part of the Avengers, we have other projects too and I'm forming a team to work with myself. A team of spies." 

'Agents of Shield.'

Alex thought and raised an eyebrow.

"Are you asking me to be a part of it? Just like Fury?"

"I'm saying I can train you under me." 

"Not interested currently. I'm sorry."

Alex rejected and Coulson frowned but didn't say anything else. He stood up from his seat and looked down at him.

"Then, I guess our talk ends here."

"Yeah, it was nice to meet you. Agent Coulson."

They shook hands and Coulson and his agents left the coffee shop. After they left, Alex sighed.

'Phase 1 is gonna end soon. And I need to get more powerful. At least enough to fight Loki and his army. Ah, I also need to send my parents away from New York.'

Thinking about this made his head hurt.

At that moment, a notification suddenly rang out in front of him which shocked him.

[You have passed an adequate amount of time in this universe.]

[You have achieved the right to enter the Tower of the 71st Demon Lord of Eraskis, Dantalian.]

"What?"

That was the only thing he could mutter out.
