Chapter 054 Stick

Chapter 054

It was Friday when Alex made his way to Hell's kitchen to have a meeting with Matt. He had called him when he was in school, saying that they had some work to do.

'What is it now?'

He wondered what it was that they have to deal with now as he walked through the streets.

Since the expo, they had not contacted each other much.

Matt was busy in his life as a lawyer and Alex was just patrolling around the city at night, catching small criminals.

At the same time, he was also giving more time to his family and studies. He didn't care much about his grades at this point, but his mother sure did.

They had already fallen a lot (according to his mother) and he can't afford to waste time on other things.

Regardless, it was a moment of peace for both of them when they could focus on other things rather than being vigilantes.

But suddenly, Matt had called him today and going by the tone of his voice, It wasn't something simple.

'I should give a visit to Colleen soon…'

Alex thought as he entered Hell's kitchen. It had been a while since he had visited Chikara dojo and going by the time, Iron Fist would land there sooner or later.

Although Iron Fist wasn't that well known of a hero, he was quite powerful and also has the majority share in Rand corporation. So, he wasn't a connection that Alex can possibly ignore.

Thinking of the comics he had read about Iron Fist, Alex reached Matt's home and found it open.

Without thinking too much about it, he walked in and found Daredevil sitting there, reading through some documents written in Braille.

"Hey, Matt."

"Hi, I have been expecting you." He said, raising his head up from the documents.

"Yeah, the door was open. Anyway, what's the deal now? I thought we were on a break–"

Alex stopped his words as he sensed something weird. Everything around him gave him a strange feeling. Matt, his house and his attitude…

'Bullet time.'

He activated bullet time as he sensed a ripple in the air behind him.

As his perception of time slowed down, he turned around and stopped a katana in mid air, a thin streak of blood rolling down his hand to the ground due to the sharpness of the blade.

"What the fuck?"

He cursed as he looked at the man who had just tried to slash him down in half.

He was old, really old and aside from the katana in his hand, his most notable feature was his eyes which were blind. Just like Matt.

"Okay, this kid is good. He will at least not be a hindrance if he can stop my blade." The old man said, lowering his blade and looking up at Matt.

The blind lawyer frowned as Alex stared at him with a face that demanded answers.

"What's going on here, Matt? And who is this old man who just tried to cut me in half?"

Alex wasn't happy with being treated like this. Everytime he entered Matt's house, someone was trying to attack him.

"For your information kid, I would have stopped that attack before it killed you." The old man said, picking up a beer can. "I don't want to kill my disciple's friend."

"Disciple?"

He raised an eyebrow at that and with another frown, Matt began to explain.

"Alex, meet Stick, he trained me when I was a kid."

"Okay…" Alex's words trailed off as he gave another look at Stick. "So, why did he try to attack me as soon as I entered your apartment?"

"To test you, kid." Stick answered, not bothered by the glare Matt was giving him. "A war is coming and Matt said you are quite good. I need warriors and you pass the initial test."

Alex stood there confused hearing that and frowned, thinking his life was just getting weirder.

* * *

"So, what is this war you are talking about?"

Alex asked after they had all sat down across a table. Stick was now on his third can of beer and Matt still had a complicated expression on his face.

"The war I've been preparing Matty for since childhood." Stick replied.

"You never told me who we were fighting against." Matt said, in a displeased tone. "You were always quite secretive about it."

"I had to. You weren't ready."

"Now I am?" Matt scoffed and Alex noted that his relationship with his master didn't seem to be nice.

"You will never be unless you can throw away your soft side. Your friend here is the same as you." Stick shook his head and then looked at Alex.

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

"You and Matt. Both of you aren't willing to kill. I don't care about your principles but what we are going to fight against isn't something that allows you to be lenient. In a war, people die and you have to kill. Or you will be the next one to die."

At those words, Matt picked up a can of beer and gulped it down, looking like he had enough of Stick.

While Alex gave his words a little thought. Stick was brutal in his words but really practical. Though Alex's focus was not on that.

He instead asked, "Why do you think I will help you in this war?"

Since they had met, Stick seemed to have already decided that Alex was going to participate in the war he was talking about.

Alex certainly didn't like his commanding tone.

"Cause if you don't, they are gonna tear the whole city down. You can deal with monsters and drones but you won't be able to deal with them if they succeed. Even if you kill them, they will just come back. Like freaking zombies!"

"Who?" Matt asked, raising an eyebrow.

Stick looked at both of them before taking a breath. Then, he answered.

"The Hand and their weapon, the Black Sky."
