Chapter 015 Doubts

Chapter 015

"Alex, are you okay?"

Peter asked as he sent a worried glance towards Alex who seemed to be lost in thoughts. It wasn't the first time today. He had been like that for two days now.

It was only after a small tug that Alex came back from his thoughts.

"... Yes, I'm fine. Why don't you go ahead with the rest of the class?"

"I am pretty sure you will be left behind if I'm not with you. Your mind isn't in the right universe for a while now."

Alex chuckled hearing that and thought that not only his mind, his whole body wasn't in the right universe.

It's been two days since his embarrassing debut as a vigilante.

After leaving the injured man and his son in the hospital, Alex went straight to his house and slept. His shoulder was hurting from the stab wound and his mental scars were more than what he could deal with.

It had cost him 10 HP for the lowest level healing ointment. That was as much as he had gotten for his 'heroic' act of fighting the Russians.

He wanted to buy potions as the ointment was more like a slow burn but they were more than what he could afford currently.

It has been two days since he was using the ointment and his shoulder was still hurting from time to time. The saving grace was that it has mostly healed.

"Mr. Parker, Mr. Krown. What are you doing there? We are going ahead!"

He came out of his thoughts as Mr. Harrington, his teacher, shouted at both him and Peter.

Currently, his whole class was visiting the Captain America exhibit.

Apart from Captain America, the exhibit also has stuff about the Howling commandos and a memorial for Bucky Barnes who lost his life during one of the missions.

"Let's go, I heard they have a replica of Captain America's motorcycle."

"Yeah."

Both of them walked with the class for a while. Alex glanced around and noticed that Harry and his little gang consisting of Mary Jane and Flash Thompson were talking about how they would have fared out if they were born around the world war.

Flash was talking about how he would have become a part of the Howling commandos while Harry was mostly disinterested, not even giving any attention to Mary Jane.

'Did he get scolded by his dad or something?'

Alex wondered and looked beside him.

Like him, Peter was also glancing the same way but his eyes were mostly on Mary Jane.

"Why don't you ask to show her around?" Alex suddenly asked, making Peter a little flustered.

"What? What are you talking about?"

"You clearly like her."

"She has a boyfriend and Harry and I are childhood friends. I can't really go for his girlfriend."

"He isn't even giving her any attention and just wait a little, he will dump her as soon as he loses interest."

Alex said like it was just a matter of fact.

"How do you know that?"

"That's what teenagers do. They lose interest and move on. In the end, it's about going from one person to another. Nothing more."

He had seen a lot of things like that in his previous life. That had made Alex more skeptical of relationships and the fact still stands tall in his current life.

Although Alex hadn't said those words with any intentions, it made Peter think deeper about Mary Jane. Maybe it was too soon to give up for him?

As Peter started to think about his love life, Alex moved ahead.

They were currently at the section where there were mannequins of the Howling commandoes and their achievements against the Scientific division of the Nazis, Hydra.

He kept glancing at them as the scenes of the first Captain America movie came to mind.

He recognised most of the members of the Howling commandos. Besides the mannequins of the members, there were facts written about them.

Alex kept reading them as he moved forward before a certain mannequin made him stop in his tracks.

'James Howlett.'

It was the mannequin of James Howlett but Alex was shocked to see his mannequin displayed here. It was because he knew the actual identity of James Howlett.

'Logan fought in World war 2...'

The inclusion of Wolverine in this universe wasn't something that Alex knew about. It came as a shock to him, especially to see him being a partner of Captain America.

It made Alex realize that he still didn't know a lot about the world he was in.

After all, a lot of things have changed like Peter getting his powers way before it had happened in the MCU.

Deciding to do a little more research on Logan later, Alex moved ahead.

His class gathered around a video of Captain America's journey. From being a scrawny guy to be the first super soldier.

[A symbol to the nation. A hero to the world. The story of Captain America is one of honor, bravery and sacrifice. Denied enlistment due to poor health, Steven Rogers was chosen for a program unique in the annals of American warfare. One that would transform him into the world's first super soldier...]

Alex watched it for a while before standing in front of a mannequin of Captain America. The exhibit had already bored him and he was back to his old thoughts.

They were the thoughts that had made him depressed for two days.

'Can I even be a hero? I can't even deal with two gangsters without relying on my wolf...'

He thought back to the same question that had plagued his mind for two days.

In his first stint as a hero, he had tried to fight off the gangsters with just his personal skills. He didn't want to become overly reliant on his powers.

But the result was something he wasn't proud of.

In the end, his wolf saved him but the confidence he had lost due to the fight wasn't something that could be recovered easily.

Alex wanted to stop. He wanted to go back to his normal life. He felt like being a hero wasn't for him. He felt hurt. He missed his previous life, both the good and bad part of it.

He just wanted to...

"What do you think about becoming a hero?"

"Huh?"

As he was lost in his thoughts, Peter suddenly stood beside him and asked.

Alex wasn't able to respond to his question due to the surprise and just stood there with a flabbergasted look.
