2 Chapter 002 A lot of questions

Chapter 002

[Do you want to be a Hero or a Villain?]

As the holographic screen suddenly appeared in front of him, Alex wasn't able to stop himself from shouting out of fear. He took a step back and nearly collided with his table.

"What the fuck? Is this one of those cheats?"

He muttered as he tried to calm down his nerves.

He didn't know how but he was easily able to accept his new situation no matter how much of a weirdly fucked up mess it was. Maybe people became more calm in these types of situations?

It took Alex a while before he got used to the holographic screen hovering in front of him.

To make sure it wasn't an illusion, he moved around his room to see if there was something like a projector lying around. He even tried to touch the screen but his hands just moved through it, like the screen was never there.

"There's a chance that I'm just in a hospital and hallucinating about all this? Or is this just one of those systems you normally find in novels?"

Alex had many ways to comfort himself in this situation, but there was far too much evidence that he was unable to call all this a hallucination or delusion.

For example, there was no way he would be capable enough of critical thinking if this was a hallucination. His new found memories were one more example.

"Let's see how this works...?" He said as he wondered about the ways to call his system.

"System open!"

"Menu!"

"Player login!"

"Status screen?"

"... Abracadabra?"

After embarrassing himself for a few more minutes, he gave up and sat down on the edge of his bed.

It didn't seem like he would find a way to call his system.

The screen asking him whether he wanted to be a hero or a villain was still hovering in front of his eyes. There was only one logical explanation for this now.

'I need to select a path for myself before moving forward.'

If Alex had to choose between being a hero or a villain, he would obviously walk the more cliche hero path.

Being a villain didn't suit his character no matter what and if he got caught, he would be sent to jail or worse.

He would also have to deal with all sorts of superheroes.

That option was already cancelled out from the start.

If only there was an anti-hero option, he would have pondered on it more. But he wasn't provided with such an option. Alex guessed that it was probably a hidden path that wasn't unlocked yet.

"The hero option it is then..."

He was just about to select the hero option when his fingers stopped.

A question popped up in his head.

'Do I even want to be a hero?'

It was a basic question, but it was something that was going to change his whole life, way more than it already has.

Alex didn't want to rush into it and make a decision that he may regret later.

Being a hero sounded only good in theory. In reality, it was a job that could ruin his life. He had seen many superhero movies and the first of all of them was the original Spiderman trilogy.

He could remember how being a hero had ruined Peter's life, both socially and romantically, even forcing him to give up on being Spiderman for a brief time in the second movie.

Even in the Amazing Spiderman franchise, Peter had always lost people due to shouldering the responsibility of being a hero. Alex didn't want to go through the same stuff.

And he didn't know if he could risk his life for others?

Maybe he liked to help people, but helping someone and risking their life for them are two different things. He didn't even have any superpowers yet.

Maybe the system would give him one, but he didn't know if he would be able to protect himself with that.

There was also another problem.

'I would be changing the timeline if I became a hero.'

Alex didn't know what Marvel universe he was in. Aside from the MCU, there were all sorts of universes in Marvel. There was one with zombies, one with gender swap and even one where Spiderman was a pig.

Seeing that Tony Stark was working on the Stark Expo, it was guaranteed that he was in the movie verse, but even then, Spiderman was already sixteen in this one.

'Well, Spiderman would have been in the MCU way earlier if not for Sony. Maybe, it's because it's a real world now.'

Alex silently pondered on it.

In the end, he guessed that he was in an alternate version of the MCU and left it at that.

But the fact that his presence could change the timeline entirely was still there in his mind.

He had seen some episodes of the 'What if' animated series and he very well knew that one small change was enough to bring a big change.

All these jumbled thoughts made him confused for a long time, before a voice interrupted him.

It was the mother of his new body, but it was safe to say that she was his mother too now.

"Alex, come eat your lunch. Then, I have some work for you."

A woman with black hair and a pretty face opened the door to his room and said. Her face has signs of fading beauty and Alex felt a warmth in his chest seeing her, a familiar warmth.

"... I'm coming."

It took him a while to respond as he got up from his bed and moved downstairs.

It had only been a day, so he wasn't used to his new family. But somehow, he was able to handle it all and didn't feel much awkward around his new family.

'Is this a basic feature of transmigration? How am I able to accept every part of my new life so easily?'

He thought, but like so many of the questions roaming around his head, this one was also without any answer.
