Other officer took Ethan and Gwen far away from the oscorp building. they were evacuating the promises around the biulding.
Seeing the chance ethan uncuffed himself in instant after George left and immediately run toward the building. Before officers even realise his absence he was gone.
But suddenly a big explosion occured inside the building and just seconds later, another one. Fuve continuous explosions occurred inside the building one after another. Looks like Connors had a backup plan all along. Destroyed by explosions the building finally reached it's limits and came down crashing on the ground. people were running away, as far as they can but not everyone were lucky. No one can get out alive if the building was falling on them. This all happened in spend of mere seconds...
Ethan was stunned, he never thought things will go this far. he was frozen, watching all hell being unfolding in front of his eyes... the hell he could have prevented.
Storm of dust rise up in the sky by the fallen building. but there was still some part hanging, threatening to fall at any second... people were still running in panic. Police officers calling for backup, shouting and pushing other people away from the affected area.
Ethan used the aura technique to sense his surrounding, to it's max (which was 35 meters radius.) to see if anyone need help but the only thing he sensed was death. Shouting of people while they took their last breaths. He gritted his teeth while sensing people die, unable to do anything.
He kept trying to search that he could at least find one person alive but the more he serched, only number of dead kept rising.
He still continue to try. until he was exhausted and completely run out of aura. During that time, in his serch he also saw a bunch of agents in black suit. Dr.Connors along with them, arrested.
Gwen was crying in the car, cause George was killed by Connors on the roof. Peter gave his body to the police and left.
Ethan stared at Georges's dead body with had three big holes on the chest. Lying still without any signs of life.
Nearly 6 hours had passed since the incident. Injured had been send to hospitals. The police had prohibited the entry near the fallen building. But not far from there. On the tall building beside the fallen oscorp. One man was standing at the edge of the it's roof. Looking down at the secen. watching as rescue team find one body after another from under the rumbel.
Just outside the premises there was a campaign. where all bodies were laid on the ground covered with white cloth. Some were crying near them. While other were waiting for dead body of their loved one to be found.
The man on the roof was watching it all. without blinking an eye. wanting to marking all these scenes in his mind,so he never forgets. he was none other than Ethan.
Ethan saw a news reporters had arrived, so he enhanced his hearing with aura to hear them.
"It was an unfortunate incident, according to police a famous scientist from oscorp dr.Connors had went insane and become a giant lizard by his failed experiment. Who caused this disaster as a result. if that's true who is to blame.The oscorp foundation that wanted business from rival companies or the scientist for his mad experiments? There were 136 deaths and still rising, more than 300 people were injured. it's the incident that we can never forget. But whose at the fault for this horror, whom to blame while normal people are left to gather the pieces...my name is donna and I'll be giving a live report about the oscorp incident..."
Hearing this all, Ethan clenched his hand into a fist, so hard that, the blood began drip from his hand. he knew the answer to that reporter's question...it was him. he was the one at fault.
If one can think, Ethan had many chances to stop the lizard, like when it had attacked the school. Again when antiserum was getting ready. if he had went all out with his aura. he would have definitely stopped that lizard. even when George's handcuffed him he could have easily gone pass him...But for not to reveal his strength to others he didn't.
All the people that died and got on the verge of death. George who died fighting the lizard. He could have stopped that all from happening, his decision to not stop Connors when he had the chance did. who was at fault they asked? it was him...he's to blame for everything.
It has been 2 days, since the oscorp incident but Ethan was still standing at the edge of the roof. watching everything with the solemn expressions, Without moving an inch...
it was morning but the sky was dark, black clouds were warning about the heavy rain by loud thunders... the cool wind was passing by, fluttering Ethan's coat but doesn't seem to affect him in the slightest, with another loud thunder rain came pouring down, making people run for near shelters.
Standing at the edge of the roof. Ethan let himself soaked by the cold water of rain. listeninh to the sound of falling rain, Ethan looked up at the dark sky and closed his eyes. feeling the raindrops touching his face.
It was still vivid in his mind, the crying of people,who lost their family. not one, not two but many, so loud that he didn't needed to use aura to hear them. Ethan blamed himself for everything that happened but he wasn't on the roof all this time for self petty or to punish himself.
he was standing there seeing everything, every person affected on that day by the destruction caused by his lack of effort. No matter how painful it is for him to watch, he remained there as part of his responsibility. as if to challenge himself that no matter what, he wouldn't let any let anyone die because his lack of efforts.
With this conviction, he slowly opened his eyes and then left the roof without turning back. Ethan wasn't weak, he wouldn't be stuck and wean in self petty. he will move on. Move on...But never forget. he was that kind of man after all.
