Meet and greet...and fight?

[I envision Captain Marvel as the actress Katheryn Winnick. If anyone has seen the TV show 'Vikings' they would probably agree she would make a great Captain Marvel. Also special thanks to LordValmar who helped me research a character that will show up in the next couple chapters...last name 'Castle' for a hint..]

In an office in the Triskelion, Nick Fury was looking over documents while sometimes he would close his eye to think about something.

Fury likes to keep his office sparse, and most of his agents think he likes to be tidy and clean. However, for the seasoned veteran he thinks of every room as a battlefield, and the less obstacles in his way if he were to fight someone, the better.

Even his desk is outfitted for a battle. While the outside looks like oak, the inside of it is an alloy stronger than steel that can block bullets in case of a firefight.

As he flipped a page in a file, part of his trench coat starts to vibrate.

Fury then pulled out what looks like a red and blue upgraded pager and stares at the message on it solemnly, with maybe a hint of amusement.

[I am visiting, prepare the booze]

Fury used the keys to type a message back,

[When and where?]

A few seconds later…

[Josie's bar, two days]

The sounds of buttons clicking filled the office…

[Copy that]

Fury leaned back on his chair while tapping the desk absentmindedly with his finger.

Meanwhile, Zod was in the basement of his villa preparing sub-level two.

The first sub-level was the server room which is going to be remodeled now that he has his reality warping ability.

With his ability he is going to set up a Kryptonian server array that will be able to process algorithms many times faster than what earth and Marvel world's alien technology can achieve.

Similar to Superman's cave of solitude, the servers of Krypton use crystals that do not contain any of the known elements from Earth's periodic table of elements.

The element used allow Kryptonians to store massive amounts of information in them and achieve an era-surpassing technological prowess.

Using this as the main station for Kelex will allow it to scour the internet in nanoseconds and achieve a hacking ability that is basically godlike. Even if it's a blacksite server that isn't connected to an agency's mainframe or intranet, Kelex can basically ride the electromagnetic waves in the air and ground to penetrate the database.

As for the second floor of the basement, Zod will use it to recreate all of Krypton's scientific machinery. Needless to say, things like dark matter that is unreachable to scientists today is the most basic operation it can simulate.

Surrounding all of this machinery of both floors is a near-impenetrable Krypton alloy that is used on the ship that Jor-El created for faster-than-light travel. At its current defense stage, it should be able to handle anything short of a celestial or heavenly father level full-on attack.

Zod decided to go with this avenue of defense instead of willing a shell of 'unbreakable metal' because when he tried to do so, his mind was approaching collapse because of the strain of trying to create it.

Apparently, something with an absolute defense is against the intrinsic laws in this universe. If he were to continue to try it wouldn't be surprising if he entered a vegetative state.

The whole remodeling of the underground part of the villa took several days because of the complexity of the machinery.

"How is Project Castle at the moment?" Zod asked Kelex through the microphone.

"After using several million dollars to grease some hands we have substantial evidence to prove there is corruption and heroin trading happening. Once you build the new server, I should be able to access the files on the Black-ops, driving the final nail in the coffin and securing our asset."

"Perfect."

Zod walked back up to the villa to sunbathe, unaware Earth is welcoming a visitor from outer space.

----

In a bar near the Mojave Desert on the outskirts of California.

Outside the bar titled 'Josie' a blacked-out SUV pulled into the parking lot.

Nick Fury opened the door and stepped out onto the pavement that was cracked from the heat and dry climate.

Weeds were beginning to sprout in between the cracks giving it a sort of apocalyptic scenery.

He looked at the worn-down bar that only had a couple other cars parked in front. After a casual inspection of his surroundings, Fury walked towards the entrance with light steps.

As he entered, he surreptitiously looked in all directions, making sure there weren't any obvious threats inside.

After confirming it was safe, he sat down at a table facing the window and ordered a beer.

Time seemed to pass slowly as he waited for a few hours, ignoring the strange looks the bartender was giving him.

The quiet atmosphere was interrupted by the entrance opening as two people entered.

One was a tall blonde woman in what looked to be what people would call a cosplay outfit with a star in the center followed by a middle-aged man in a suit with glasses and blue eyes.

The bartender only glanced at them once before continuing to wipe down a glass.

The blonde lady in the outfit looked mildly surprised before turning to Fury,

"It looks like a lot of people play laser tag around here?"

Fury snorted,

"It's not as popular as you think."

Fury eyed the man behind her and was unimpressed, "You must really like my former boss's body Talos, not like there was several other people around to choose from?"

Talos smiled crookedly without saying anything.

Both of the newcomers walked towards Fury and sat down across from him.

Fury stared at Carol, noticing a difference in the way she carries herself and her expression. It was similar to how other agents who have seen too much battles behave.

Her walk was a measured pace that was ready to react at any moment rather than the casual stance she had when they first met. Her eyes were less vibrant and more calculative while her face looked like it hadn't smiled in a while.

He observed for a few seconds before beginning to speak,

"So what brought you back here after what happened in '99?"

Carol didn't answer him, instead looking at the bartender and ordering a beer.

Talos answered instead,

"Come on friend, you know why we're here, we want to know who beat up Ronan and sent him packing." He paused for a second, "Well, maybe I shouldn't have taken your boss's form, it kind of sounds like an order when I said that…"

Carol and Fury shared an amused look before Fury pulled out some documents from a briefcase he brought in. Following that he took a tablet from the briefcase and opened a video file.

As both Talos and Carol looked through the documents, Fury introduced who they were looking for,

"According to our sources his name is Heath Zod and he showed up…"

He spent the next 30 minutes explaining what they had on him and his recent escapades, while giving his own thoughts to them on what his motives might be, finishing off with the surveillance video of the fight with the Sentry Robot.

Carol was silent for a minute before replying, "I want to meet him."

----

Zod was sunbathing on the roof of the villa and drinking lemonade when he saw a multicolored beam approach him at high speed.

It finally stopped a few meters in the air in front of his lawn chair, while he continued to sip his lemonade calmly.

Both Carol and Zod stared at each other.

"Fury sent you?" Zod asked after putting the lemonade cup on the table next to him.

"Maybe."

"Hmm. Want some lemonade?" Zod asked politely.

Carol blinked once. Then twice.

"No thanks."

Zod shrugged, "Thought I'd ask."

He then stood up and walked towards the edge of the balcony before rising into the air, stopping in front of her at normal talking distance.

"You're pretty calm." Carol observed.

"I figured you're either here to talk or fight, it seems like you want to fight. I wouldn't mind stretching my muscles, just not near my house. It was just built."

Zod tilted his head in the distance and looked at Carol.

"Lead on." Carol waved at him.

"Can you keep up?" Zod smirked slightly.

"We'll see." She returned back with the same smirk.

Zod initiated his armor as it covered his body in synthetic weave rather than the Kryptonian metal.

He looked up before rocketing into the air at subsonic speed then continuing to accelerate to supersonic.

Behind him, Carol clad in a multicolored aura caught up and flew beside him, glancing his way with interest, most likely wondering how he propels his flight.

Both of them flew towards the Nevada desert, reaching several Mach in speed.

Zod spent this time thinking on how to handle the fight based on what he knows from her powers and her attitude that seems slightly different from how he remembers from the movie.

Carol is doing the same thing as him, also debating how to fight from what she has seen in the video and files. If it were her from several years ago that saw how he was a hitman for hire, she would probably look down on him. However, she has fought in a war for years and seen the best and worst in humanity.

Others did worse just to make money like trafficking slaves from pre-galactic level planets. Furthermore, Zod's targets were not the nicest people either.

They arrived shortly at the desert that had a mix of sand dunes and rock formations.

Zod slowed down followed by Carol as they separated to hover about 20 meters apart.

Zod decided not to use what he calls "Upgraded Kryptonian" mode where he spreads his warp field around him to absorb all types of energy into his body, such as dark matter, dimensional energy, cosmic energy, etc.

In that state he could probably go toe-to-toe with beings such as Galactus even though he has never tried.

His base mode should be enough.

Both opponents nodded at each other before beginning the fight…

[I'm evil right?]
