『Cabin』

I'm a mile away from the crime scene. I disposed of my clothes and belongings inside the nearest dumpster. I quickly change into what a teenager would wear.

Distressed jeans and a simple white t-shirt.

I change my energy into a teenager's as I park the car.

"The life of a soldier." I murmur as I opened the glove box.

Inside was a couple of junk. If you dig far enough, you'll see a phone.

I turn it on and find the [Find Friends] app.

It shows a blue dot at where I am. I double-tap it and it shows me to a new page. I find the [Notify Friends] option and I click it. My screen turns black as a pass-code shows.

8-1-4-6

I quickly type the ever-changing pass-code and the phone lights up.

*Beep*

"Wolf Spider here. I've finished my assignment." I announce to the phone.

"Good." My handler responds. "I've sent you coordinates to lie low."

The call disconnects and I get a ping.

I check the coordinates and it's ten miles away. A small cabin in the woods.

It's an odd place but I don't question it. I am taught to not question orders. Only complete them.

I start the car after a couple minutes and go to the cabin.

...

The engine of the car dies as I take the car keys.

I open the door and examine my new house.

It's a small but lovely cottage that shows warmth and love. It's deep in the woods and provides a sort of calm and serene vibe.

Not bad. I didn't know the KGB had this type of style.

I walk to the front porch and found a really lovely pot of flowers. I grab the flowers from the put and stick my hand into the pot.

Keys.

Basic. But sometimes, you have to hide in plain sight.

I unlock the door and did a deep scan of the house. I committed each object into my memory as a building schematic appeared in my head.

Weird yes, but it's what I was taught. The more you know, the bigger advantage you had against potential enemies.

I walk in and shut the door.

I look at the sofa and I fall on it. It's been a really long day.

...

Hiss

I immediately open my eyes.

The noise is familiar to me. It's a gas grenade. The hissing means that it's already opened. I roll quickly and quietly to the floor.

I stay low. It's a cold night. The air in the can will be warmer than the air at it's release. It will rise up and then collapse onto the floor. Meaning I has seconds. Maybe half a minute at most.

This is all instinctual. I've been trained to act on instinct. Not to weigh the options, do a pros-and-cons list, strategize. There is a time to do all of those things, but then there's a different time.

A time to survive.

I breath in.

Although the sound of the gas doesn't give away the model of the grenade, it does tell me that it's only one. The size of the cottage is small, the air will collapse on itself in less than thirty seconds.

There are three primary reasons to us a gas attack.

To cloak.

To Disable.

To kill.

Whatever the reason, my location has been compromised.

I army crawl towards the bathroom. I grab a cloth and wet it.

Although it only gives me a couple extra seconds, it's the best I can do.

I lay in the bathroom and listen. There was no footsteps.

It seems like they were waiting it out. Smart move.

I sigh as I got up. They got me.
