Luck

Rosaline's POV

I crossed my fingers in-between my legs and patiently waited for his dismissal, it felt like ages I'd been sitting there answering all his questions as confident as i could. But with the looks of disgust and hate he fired my way made me realize I've been doing nothing but piss him off, which I'm not sorry about.

The man's an asshole.

"That'll be all for now miss Barker, shut the door on your way out." He spat without sparing me as much as a glance.

Feeling extremely annoyed and irritated, I unknowingly huffed which earned me an "excuse me" look from him. Ignoring him, i walked out of the hall but not after I made sure I slammed the door as hard as I could.

Convinced that I'm never getting the job, I decided to send a quick text to River whilst I waited for the elevator to get to the floor i was in. Hearing the loud ding of the elevator, I attempted to walk in with my face buried in my phone causing me to side bump into something hard.

I yelped and dropped my phone causing it to crack, I audibly gasped as my hand automatically flew to cover my mouth.

Tears pooled in my eyes as I stared at the phone in utter disbelief, how do I manage to destroy everything I touch.

"You really need to watch where you're going, you almost ruined my suit. Do you have any idea of how much it cost? Of course someone like you will never ever know what luxury looks like."

Not bothering to look up at him, I picked up my phone and wiped my eyes with the back of my hand, staining it with my smudged eyeliner.

"You're right." I whispered to myself and walked in the elevator with my head bowed. Pressing the last floor I did nothing but to stare at my broken screen and sigh.

Finally getting to the lobby, I hurried out of the building and hailed a taxi, sighing heavily I found myself wishing today never happened.

The taxi got to my building and I got out after paying and wrapped my hands around myself in a way to shield myself from the cold air.

Walking to the stairs, I opened the door with the help of the spare key I had and smiled immediately I saw my bestie sitting on the couch with a bowl of popcorn on her laps, watching twilight.

"Hey best friend." She bellowed. "How was the interview? Not as hard as we thought right?" She asked.

"Not quite, but I did the best I could." I sighed heavily while trying to hold in my tears and not break down. Noticing the quivering in my voice, she turned to me almost immediately and hurried out of the couch to give me a big hug.

I hugged her back and cried on her shoulder.

After a few reassuring words and motivation from River, I retired to my room and found myself giving in to the darkness that consumed me.

I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing from my bed and after rubbing my sleepy eyes, I answered the phone.

'𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦, 𝘐'𝘮 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘞𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘓𝘛𝘋 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪'𝘮 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘔𝘳 𝘟𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘺 8𝘢𝘮.'

I was livid.

Could this be a prank call? But who else knows about my interview, my sister? My parents? No they wouldn't go to this length to prank a nobody like me.

'𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦?'

'𝘖𝘩 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺, 𝘐 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘻𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵? 𝘠𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴.'

'𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘔𝘳 𝘟𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳.'

An irritated tone evident in her voice, I cleared my throat lowly.

'𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘺. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦.'

She hung up.

Humph bitch.

Taking a moment to process what just happened, I stared at my phone again waiting for the "you've been pranked" message.

But no other message came in, and that was the moment I screamed. Running out of my room i barged into River's room and jumped on her bed.

"I got the job." I hollered.

"What?" Immediately sitting up, she stared at me wide eyed.

"I got the job as a personal assistant River, to Xavier Woods himself." Tears welled up in my eyes.

"Oh my God Rose." Then we both screamed like maniacs and then started crying. We cried together and hugged each other tightly. I was extremely happy and proud of myself, I wouldn't have made it this far if I hadn't left that hellhole I call a house.

"I'm so happy River." I cried.

"I don't care what you say Rose, we're going shopping first thing tomorrow."

I nodded in agreement and we continued celebrating my new job till it was a few minutes past 2am.

Then we both went to bed.
