Chapter 1Rain Torres

''Thank you, thank you!'' Rain called out over the crowd that had gathered for his magic act for the day, his last one in this small town actually.

A few of the... Older folk were getting restless, calling him the 'Devil' behind his back, saying his magic was the work of Lucifer and his trickery or things like that.

Not like it was the first town he was run out of because of his tricks, and most likely not the last, as small towns like this were always better to get enough funds to travel for.

''I am sorry to announce, that this will be my last show within this town, as I hear the call of Lady Arcane elsewhere!'' Rain's words brought a few disheartened calls and a few boos.

''I understand that your small town will be a little less wonderful without me, Rain Torres the traveling magician but fear not, for I have saved my final, greatest trick for last. To go out with a bang to remember me by!''

He grinned a bit, before his hands spread out. ''That is if you will see it before I'm gone!''

Rain began to pull a handkerchief out of his pocket, only for it to be tied to another, and another as he pulled it out of his breast pocket, too small to hold all of the handkerchiefs.

Getting quite a few laughs as it was the first trick he ever performed in front of most people.

''Oh, bugger, seems I misplaced by magical contraption! Worry not, I have a volunteer for tonight to help me set up, Sherrif Hutson!''

A lot of people in the crowd began to clap as Sherrif Hutson got on stage, looking a little sheepish as he gave a nod to everyone before walking up beside Rain to hand him a frisbee.

Finally getting the last handkerchief out of his pocket he smiled. Taking the frisbee from the sheriff.

''Some of you might have an idea, but Sherrif Hutson is actually a renowned sharpshooter in the revolver category! He's even come up to the top five nationalists twice in two years in a row! It is because of his skill that I have invited him to shoot this frisbee!''

Rain chuckled at a few of the faces in the crowd, only momentarily locking eyes with an older gentleman near the back of the crowd, who nodded towards him.

Rain wasn't sure why. Usually, he tried his best to keep focused on the show, but he nodded back before he lifted the frisbee, going back to his own groove.

''Let us hope my frisbee skills match up to my card-throwing skills!''

They did, Rain had to spend weeks mastering how to get a frisbee as far out as he could, perfecting the angle, the strength, the wrist, and even the curve to put into the disk.

He turned towards the off stage towards a large open field where no one was. Before he wound up and threw the frisbee, everyone watched as it arced through the air.

Hutson waited until it was at the peak of his Arc before he suddenly quickdraw his pistol. Having the frisbee shot the moment it reached the peak. It shattering before a sonic boom seemed to leave the frisbee before it erubted into a massive fireball, spreading out until it looks like a star before it suddenly all fizzled out.

Suddenly everyone turned to look at Rain who held his hand up, ready to snap, now multiple feet away from the Sherrif with a grin.

''Thank you all, for the laughs, the new ideas, and the absolute magic it was to meet you all, I will remember this town for as long as I live as one of the best to perform my magic within... Now, for my final trick? Changing the weather!''

Rain snapped, and as if on cue, rain began to pour, the ones bright sunny afternoon beginning to darken as clouds began to role in.

Rain grinned as everyone began to cheer, it was a very simple trick, that only worked because he had the perfect conditions, the perfect atmosphere, all he needed was a sudden burst of extremely hot air, so hot it would burn the oxygen in such a quick burst of heat that it would cause a small vortex, manipulating the weather enough just to push the final pieces of mother nature to begin raining.

He was unsure of how long it would rain, or how hard. But that didn't matter, it had worked. One of his greatest tricks that, even if it meant a lot of planning, skill, and talent.

The biggest factor was luck, luck that Mother nature would let him have this one magical moment.

He smiled before he clapped his hands, and with a flash.

He was gone.

Now at the inn room he had been staying in during his stay here, he was finishing some last moment packing when he got a knock on the door that was open to let the chemical smell air out, since the kind old woman had come to clean his room for the next person who would stay in it while he packed.

Turning around he look at the old man from before, the one that had stuck out in the crowd.

''A neat magic trick you pulled off Rain, impressed even me.''

''Thank you Sir, it was one of my greatest tricks yet... Did you want an autograph?''

''I did actually.'' The old man chuckled as he reached into his suit, pulling out what looked to be a notebook, opening it to the last page as he handed a pen to Rain.

Rain smiled, it was rare he got to do this, but each time he did, for someone to wish to have a piece of him like this, even if it was if they just wanted to sell it if he ever became famous, that was fine.

He walked over and began to sign it. ''Who am I writing it to?''

''Merlin Wylit.''

''Merlin... Wylit...'' He spoke it out as he wrote it down, before his hand froze as he looked up with a laugh.

''How cool! Your name is the same as the most 'famous' wizard of magic and sorcery, the Prophet himself!''

The old man smiled as he took the notebook back, along with the pen. ''Indeed, it was quite amusing to realize that even this world without magic still had a version of me, all though buried in quite a bit of misunderstanding.''

''World... Without magic?'' Rain asked, was it weird Rain was holding onto the word the man was saying? Not really, even if the man seemed a bit 'mad.'

Rain had many times where he was called the same, even if he was only in his mid-twenties, his life had been a hard one.

''Yes, sadly this world, had magic at one point but it was not the type that existed forever, through all living beings, after so long it slowly dried up, before becoming so fickle it was nonexistent, now sadly. The world is without it... Until now, at least.''

''What do you mean? What's happened recently that magic just... came back?'' Rain was interested, of course he's come across a few people who said the same thing, either in ancient writing or other, but something about the man before him, made it have a weight to those words.

The man put away his notebook and pen before lifting his hand, within his palm a scene appeared of a beautiful field, and a minature sun. With wind gently blowing through the field.

Rain could feel the heat, the gentle wind, it was far different from the dark outside that was still raining, then the man closed his hand before he spoke. Stars floating around his fist.

''Because I came to this world, any my presence alone is able to slowly fill the world with magic again, and once it reaches a certain point, I will make it so it may began to breath mana once more, but even so it can self sustain it's own mana, so it slowly builds up and up, until the world will once again experience mana.''

Rain stood there, he wished, with all of his being that it would be true, magic was... Well magic, something he had always wanted to experience, to be apart of.

''But... It will still take a long, long time for such a thing to happen, and I have come here to ask you something Rain... Would you like to leave this world, this earth, and travel to a new one? Where magic has already been apart of the world for a long, long time... I will send you to this world, under conditions of course.''

''Sir Wylit, if magic is real, as you say it is... And I can go to such a place? I have no family here, no lover, and only acquaintances through all my years of research. I would take it without fail.''

The man chuckled softly with a nod, before, right before him Rain watched this man summon a cane a beautiful piece of wood as it grew, and grew until it looked like a full fletched staff.

''I have three conditions... I will send you to a world of magic, the same world where I once learned magic, where I took my first steps into the Arcane, I ask that you take my last name, Wylit. With it, I wish for you to have a better start at magic then I did, with proper knowledge, skill, and a place to grow it. So that you might one day surpass me in skill...''

The old man gripped his staff firmly, magic concentrating at such a concentration it was visible to the naked eye, especially to Rain.

Who if given the chance, had the great talent to be a wizard, a true master of the Arcane.

''My third request Rain... Is that you meet a young woman, her name is Harriet Potter... She is a kind, wonderful lady, sentenced to a very dark future, with a dark past... Help her fight her foes, become her friend, assist her when she needs it most, and if possible. Make sure she is happy... Can you accept these terms?''

''Hold on, you want me to go to a magical world, where I can learn, and actually use magic, to take your last name, and to befriend someone? Do you know how many people would give far more for this same chance?''

The man chuckled as he offered his free hand out to him. ''Oh, I am sure... As I am sure I will meet them as I travel this world in search of those with the same dedication as you, though... Maybe not the same talent.''

''Talent?'' Rain didn't hesitate, taking the man's hands... Worst case he ends up with a kidney, or another organ missing, right?

''Yes, Rain... Out of everyone I have ever met, including myself, and even Arthur... You have a talent for magic that I have never seen, and perhaps through you... You might discover the true secret of the Arcane.''

When he firmly shook Rane's hand, he was suddenly blasted backward, even as his body met the wall of the room he was in, the wall felt like it gave no resistance as he slipped through.

His eyes struggled at the rushing lights and winds as he was pulled, but for only a moment he saw something beautiful.

A woman smiled at him, a butterfly lifting from one of the many that surrounded her and coming forward to flap its wings towards him before his eyes shut as he lost consciousness as he began to go through many changes.
