Chant-less

It was a humongous lab with all the high end facilities provided by the Royals.

It also was very placid at the same time watching the herbs grow in the pot by the huge windows.

He had the assistants provided by the Royals stand outside while the diagnosis.

Once again, Carseain was reminded of how significant Doctor Whildem is.

Nox was dressed in a white coat. Thick white gloves stained with chemicals were stuffed into his pocket.

Rovenin : " I sent him here."

He spoke before Nox could.

Carseain : " I figured that but what's up with the outfit?"

Doctor Whildem : " Actually, he came here asking for an appointment but my schedule was swamped."

Nox : " The work seemed urgent and important. So, Sir Rovenin asked me to assist him as much as I am capable of ."

Doctor Whildem : " I took up the kind offer."

He said, stroking his beard, smiling.

Carseain grinned.

Carseain: " Seems like you've taken quite a liking to him."

Whildem : " I sure have. Despite being unaware of the technicalities he was quite efficient in his work and quick on the uptake."

Carseain : " He is one of the beloved Butlers at Esselgarde."

Doctor Whildem: " It was all thanks to him I was able to make some time."

Rovenin closed his eyes and nodded.

Nox broadened his chest, giggling a little.

Doctor continued with his examination while Carseain took another bite of dark chocolate.

He sighed. Rovenin glanced at him.

Rovenin : " I believe that the medicine isn't any more bitter than the dark chocolate."

Carseain : ' Huh?! Is he curious about the medicine's taste? '

" I guess so."

Rovenin knitted his brows.

Rovenin : " Then are you perhaps still afraid of jabs ?".

Carseain " Ha? When was I ever afraid of that?"

Rovenin : " When you were 8 years old, you cried when I was bei--"

Carseain : " Are you trying to pick a fight? "

Rovenin : " I simply fail to understand your reluctance while taking a medical check-up."

Carseain : " Can you not ask that straight away?"

Rovenin simply smiled at him.

Rovenin : ' That's no fun!'

Somehow, Carseain knew what he was thinking.

Carseain: " It is not that I am reluctant to get a check up but rather worried about what is brewing inside that worrywart head of yours."

Doctor Whildem : " I agree with you , Young Master. Sir Rovenin does go overboard sometimes."

Carseain : " See that?"

Doctor Whildem: " Even I turned him down when he asked for you to be diagnosed all of a sudden.

However, he insisted that I at least listen to the situation. While I may not know what compelled you to grow Paroah's flowers but hearing the gravity of the side effects I believe it was the right call."

Rovenin : " See that, Young Master?"

Carseain clicked his tongue.

Nox: 'Even his retorts are done with respect, as expected of an Excellent Butler.'

Doctor Whildem scratched his head and was in deep thought.

Rovenin was starting to break in cold sweat.

Rovenin : " Is there something wrong?"

Doctor Whildem: " How can there not be anything wrong?

The magic hasn't completely stabilized into the body yet, it's a miracle that you were able to get off with vomiting a little blood. "

Carseain : " Wasn't that because of Magic exhaustion ?"

Rovenin : " Puking blood due to magic exhaustion is very rare. "

Doctor Whildem : " It only happens if you are physically weak but Young Master's body is one fine fettle ."

Carseain : ' I guess he did have a valid reason to be concerned.'

Doctor Whildem started pacing around the lab.

" His magic pool is enough to grow about 20 -25 flowers. An average person could grow 5-8 at the most but cannot as it requires high expertise."

He was mumbling.

Carseain : " Is that so? It seemed pretty simple to me. "

Whildem : " The primary reason that it gets complicated is that the mechanism of spell entangles the flow of magic and life force. "

Rovenin : " Are you implying that there might be some discrepancy with the flow of life force?"

Whildem : " Precisely."

Carseain : " Or a backlash of the Mechanism?"

Whildem: " I'd like to rule out that possibility as you successfully managed to bloom them."

He placed his hand at Carseain's back where he could feel his heartbeat. He told Carseain to shut his eyes and try to draw out life force near his heart.

The process is usually done as naturally as breathing but he wanted Carseain to consciously feel it.

As the nebulous existence became more pellucid for Carseain his body felt warm as if wrapped with a thin yet warm cloth. Rovenin and Nox could see an almost transparent white and soft aura around their Master.

{nebulous - vague/inexplicable ; pellucid - clear /transparent }

Soon, the Doctor was also shrouded in it.

They realized that it was Lifeforce.

Since, Lifeforce is essentially the same for all living entities, it would appear the same. Unlike mana which has a distinct colour for each individual.

Whildem : " You can stop now."

Carseain breathed out slowly and the aura dissipated. They both met each other's eyes for a moment.

The Doctor walked off and got himself a glass of water.

His eyes stared in space as he sipped it.

"Doctor?"

Rovenin called.

"Doctor?"

He was still engrossed in his chain of thought.

"Doctor Whildem?"

He snapped out of it.

"Huh? "

Rovenin : " Did you find out?"

Whildem: " Yes actually. There was nothing wrong with it. So, it seems like it was a backlash of the mechanism. I think?"

Everyone has confused faces.

Carseain : " But there was nothing wrong when I did it, though? It was quite smooth. "

Whildem: " There are traces that the flow of magic wasn't guided properly. Can you think of anything ?"

Rovenin : " There is nothing that I can pinpoint."

Whildem: " His constitution is also very strange."

He mumbled.

Silence filled the room as the three were brainstorming the cause.

"Um...I think I know the reason. "

Nox said with an unsure tone and shaking voice.

The three pierced daggers into him.

"Don't look at me like that! It is just a guess."

"Spill it out."

They fell out in unison.

He averted his eyes and said,

" Young Master didn't use the chant while casting the spell..."

The Doctor's jaw dropped.

" Ah damn...."

Carseain and Rovenin mumbled.

" Chants " are the words that are crafted to be said while casting a spell.

Doctor Whildem shut his eyes and turned to Carseain with a seemingly veritable smile on his face.

{ veritable- genuine\ indecieveing }

" Hey, that wasn't your first time casting it, was it?"

Carseain averted his eyes.

The Doctor shoved his face into Carseain's.

" It- it wasn't, I did something similar once before."

He said fumbling.

" Something similar? "

Carseain nodded quickly.

Doctor : " Were they Paroah's Flowers?"

Carseain : " You know, those giant magenta flowers that induce sleep. They also relieve fatigue."

Doctor : " Yes, they can't even be called spells compared to the complex mechanism of Paroah's flowers. Even a person with a fire attribute can do that."

Carseain let out a forced laugh.

Carseain: " Hahaha...Is that so? That was my first time using the newfound power, so it came off quite complicated...Haha"

Rovenin : ' Liar '

Nox : ' Professional Liar '

The Doctor gazed at him suspiciously.

Whildem : " Was that also Chant-less?"

Carseain flinched.

Whildem : " I see...It 'came off complicated' yet it was chant-less"

Whildem breathed slowly twice.

He took a seat in front of Carseain.

" You see, there's a reason why a myriad of researchers are slogging their asses off learning and deciphering the ancient language - Dortian.

All the words of a chant are selected and placed with utmost care to ensure the flow of magic and life force If involved in the safest and most efficient way throughout your body. "

Carseain : ' For some reason, this ol' Geezer suddenly fell into lecture mode.'

Carseain didn't want to hear a prolix lecture , so he looked at Nox and Rovenin , signalling to do something.

Nox and Rovenin glanced at each other and nodded.

They wore the typical butler smile on their faces.

Nox : " Doctor, you see Young Master has a habit of skipping them but sometimes he does say it, turning it into a command ."

Whildem : " So, you're cutting it short "

He said curtly.

Carseain : 'That ain't helping, Nox!'

Carseain shrieked.

Rovenin : " Well, it's more like a summarised version like ' Voice Amplification ' or ' Illuminate'."

Carseain exclaimed internally.

Carseain: 'That's what you do, Rovenin!'

Whildem turned to Carseain and started speaking.

" Look, no matter how much of a genius you are, the spell must be cast with the chant at least once. So, the body remembers the flow of Magic and life force. "

Carseain listened to him with a frown on his face.

Rovenin and Nox were whispering.

Rovenin : " You did well, Nox"

Nox : " It is all thanks to your guidance, Sir Rovenin."

Rovenin: " But you got on to my intention perfectly.

The only way we can correct Young Master is through sarcastic comments but it is also good to have someone scold him every now and then."

Nox : ' He was thinking of his well being?

I thought he simply wanted to watch over him getting grilled in a lecture.'

Nox glanced at him.

Rovenin : " It is also nice to see him reluctantly sitting in a makeshift lecture."

Rovenin giggled.

Nox : ' Of course, he thought that.'
