Chapter 11

Carina burned, pain and fever rushing through her as she tried to relax into the healing spells sent by the Mother and the warm water that mixed with them. She would heal, would be sound and whole but it would take time and in that time, there were other things she ought to be doing. She’d tried to rise already, tried to abandon the tub when she had first come back to consciousness but had been pressed back by her Protector. She should not try to rise again for a time.

But she could see Ishaan’s horrified eyes in her mind. He had seen something that no one outside of the Flight ever should and would doubtless be drowning in questions. She trailed a finger through the water, assessing the pain at her movements. She could not rise yet; her body would scar inside if she attempted to leave the tub now.
