An uninvited guest arrives

Chapter 19

It has been about two months since Melody's incidence. Clark had been calling me times without number to accept his proposal and elope with him.

"Do you love that beast?" he asked me once when I told him I can't elope with him . Clark wouldn't stop referring to Damien as a beast everytime he calls.

"I don't but I can't do this,you are someone else's husband and you should understand that too moreover I think Damien has changed" I said telling him how he apologized for his wrongdoings and how well he has been treating me.

'Once he bought me a beautiful necklace on his way from work 'I said.

"Do you really think that beast would change?" He said and as soon as he did Damien heard,on his way back from showering.

"I would call you back " I said to Clark after which I hung up.

"I sorry you had to hear that" I told Damien apologetically.

" You don't have to apologize on his behalf,it's no problem "He replied engrossed in his preparation for work.

He suddenly stopped and asked "What do you think of me Seraphine?".

"Sorry but I don't understand what you mean" I replied.

"Do you think I have truly changed? You are the only person that thinks i have. Everyone else thinks I'm the same old Damien they know" He said.

"Well.....I don't trust you yet but I think you are really putting in your best to be a better person and I think you deserve to be forgiven" I replied trying to cheer him up a bit. He truly has been doing a good job on his character and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed that.

"Yet?. That means you are considering to trust me later at a point in time" he said with excitement.

'Aish....I shouldn't have used that word' I thought.

As he carried his bag and left for the office. I went to have my bath . I remember how mum used to treat my bath water whenever I asked for a bubble bath as a kid. She would add epsom salt,drops of lavender oil, drops of frankincense oil and drops of chamomile oil.'Spa day' was what she called it.

I soaked myself in the tub ,closed my eyes and tried to relax as I constantly assured myself that it'll all be fine. I heard a knock on the door, 'I can't believe spa day is over so soon' I said to myself as I got up from the tub and grabbed my robe.

"Mother " I said as I opened the door. "How are you my dear?"She asked and I replied telling her all was fine. She then continued " Do you know Damien's birthday would be coming up soon?"

"Damien's birthday? I had no idea" I replied trying to rack my brain if I'd remember anyone telling me that.

"Alright dear,so I was thinking.....how about we plan a surprise birthday?" She said with excitement.

"Okay...But I know nothing about planning surprises or things of such" I said.

"Don't worry,I have a plan " She replied making me wonder what she has up her sleeves.

"Happy birthday to you,happy birthday to you,happy birthday dear Damien happy birthday to you " we chorused as we surrounded the bed where he slept.

He got up,smiled and thanked everyone.

He looked towards me and silently said 'thank you'. I smiled back at him and replied with 'you are welcome '.

Everyone else left the room while I stayed.

"I already told the maids to pick your clothes" I said.

He got down from the bed,he was about to walk past me but then stopped abruptly,turned and said "I'm waiting for the day you would help me with that yourself " he smiled and head to the bathroom.

As soon as Damien's car drove off,we started preparing for the surprise party. It was going to be a small garden party and would be attended by his staffs,few friends and his family.

The hallway was busy as everyone got to work,those in charge of decorations have started decorating the garden with beautiful ribbons and the sign' Happy birthday Damien was hung as well '

The bakers were yet to bring in the cake,the cake would be a three-tiered cake with Damien's name written on it. The chefs had designed delicious and sumptuous meals on the menu for the three courses.

Everything was almost set. Mother asked Diane and I to perform a duet at the party and we have both been practicing for a week now.

It was about 7pm and guests have begun to arrive,the bakers had already brought the cake,the cake was a combination of vanilla,chocolate and red velvet cakes.

Damien's car drove in ,he got down and was surprised at what he saw he couldn't stop blushing and smiling. I quickly went inside to get dressed up ,mother had prepared a beautiful evening gown . I wore the gown,put on makeup, then I opened my jewelry box took out a pair of earrings and wore them.

As I was about closing the box,I saw the family crest mother gave me sometimes ago,I don't know if I will ever wear it. I haven't worn it because I thought it would be disrespectful to wear such a respectful ornament when I don't even have feelings for Damien. We are more or less roommates.

I closed the jewelry box then proceed to pin my long luscious hair beautifully and then went back outside to join the party.

Everyone was busy enjoying and merrying and drinking. I and Diane hadn't performed,so I went around looking for Diane and then she entered....

The music stopped and everyone was staring in her direction as if a movie star had just appeared.

She was wearing a beautiful backless black gown with sunglasses,she pulled off the shade and looking at her,she had this bitchy and foxy demeanor but she was beautiful regardless. She had a silky smooth long brown hair,her hands were adorned with rings and she held a gold clutch bag.

All eyes were on her and then she moved towards Damien.....
