Chapter 26: The Big Red Wolf
I watched the yellow wolf begin to spring, its powerful jaws open wide. But the wolf seemed to be moving in super slow motion, even Nikki’s voice in my head now sounded like a recording played at the wrong speed.
She meant to kill me. Seeing her sharp teeth aimed at my throat, I recalled my last kiss with Grey and realized I would never see him again. My new life was over before it could really begin.
I was afraid, and I was angry.
But then I saw it. Even with my eyes open, I saw it.
The spark appeared and grew larger in my mind until it shattered into a million flickering specks of light. A tingling electric current spread over my skin and throughout my body. My flesh and bones stretched and contracted as they flowed into new shapes.
There was the sound of cloth tearing, and the top half of my body dropped parallel to the ground. As I stood on all fours, my vision, hearing, and sense of smell became acute. My perception of the world changed; everything was more intense.
