Life in Vain: Jobless Reincarnation (Mushoku Tensei)

-COMPLETE- It was a freak accident. Someone ran the light at an intersection and before I knew it... my world turned black. But I didn't die then. Instead, I was forced to lament and regret over all of my failures. Lament about how this so-called genius was lower than dirt even at the very end. And that should have been it. After my consciousness faded, I should have disappeared. But I woke up. A different world, another life. A fresh start. This time, for sure...!

L.IV Case File: 001

[author]Didn't want to leave you guys with nothing because of my mistake, so have a bit of lore to read in the meanwhile.[/author]

-Preface-

Due to various conditions being met, certain notes from L.IV have been deciphered.

-Notes on the Current World-

This current world resides in the Alpha timeline, one of the two concurrent timelines in the previously six-sided world.

The Alpha timeline is parallel to the Beta timeline where Rudeus Greyrat lives a complete and fulfilling life.

While key events are similar between the two, such as the birth and early childhood of the one known as Rudeus Greyrat, they are completely separate and do not normally overlap or interfere.

-Timeline notes-

There exists a source timeline one where Orsted loses his battle against Hitogami. This source timeline is locked by the authority of the Dragon God and set to revert to a certain point until Hitogami is slain.

In this timeline, the Playback Miko is born and dies each time, trapped in Orsted's world reverting timeloop.

This 'source' timeline is what Hitogami seeks to return to.

Due to minor fluctuations in the source timeline wrought by Orsted's world reverting timeloop, a confluence of miracles causes the source timeline to transmute into the Alpha timeline when the Playback Miko's desperate prayer to save the love of her life results in the soul of Rudeus Greyrat to fall into the six-sided world.

In the Alpha timeline, Rudeus Greyrat lives his life similar to that of the Rudeus Greyrat in the Beta timeline. However, the death of his wife, Roxy Migurdia leads to a downward spiral. Falling into depravity and revenge while losing everyone he loves, at the end of his life he develops a time travel spell to return to the past and warn his past self to not make his mistakes.

This time travel spell is flawed. Based on modifications from the notes of the Dragon God's original timeloop spell, the intent is to physically send the caster back in time to change the past and create a new future.

However, this is impossible as the flow of time is locked to the Dragon God's timeloop spell. Information may be sent back, but it is impossible to send matter back in time as it would disrupt Orsted's loop.

Through ingenuity, desparation, and determination, Rudeus obtains a partial success.

The time travel spell splits the Alpha timeline, creating the Beta timeline under full authority of the Dragon God's spell and the Alpha Prime timeline, free to deviate in every way.

Rudeus arrives in the past of the Beta timeline, his spell latching onto it by accident due to the similarity between his spell and the Dragon God's loop spell. Believing it to be his past, he gives that timeline's Rudeus a journal of what is to come and warns him so as to not make the same mistakes. The accident in his spell leaves Rudeus without vital organs, and so he perishes, leaving that timeline's Rudeus to take his advice and eventually live a full life.

However, Rudeus's death did not end the spell.

Following his demise, the incomplete spell continues and returns his soul to the past of the Alpha Prime timeline. During this period, [redacted].

The result is that the Playback Miko's wish and powers miss their mark, reaching towards a parallel Earth instead of the original, which is currently linked to the Beta timeline.

-Parallel Earth (EarthK482)-

This Earth is 99.9999% similar to the Earth connected to the Beta timeline. Although there are a variety of minor difference, the key difference is that the 'person' who is fated to become Rudeus Greyrat leads a different life.

From a young age, he shows a remarkable capacity for various skills and has a keen intellect. This results in meeting and continually exceeding the expectations placed on him throughout his childhood. However, this capacity becomes poison as he squanders his talents pursuing too many avenues and forsaking his education, seeking quick successes instead of longterm success.

Consequently, he becomes estranged and spends his adultlife drifting from job to job while losing himself in researching various topics, watching anime, playing games, and whatever else catches his eyes.

Around his late twenties, he realizes his errors and turns his life around, earning a university degree in record time as well as landing a high-paying job right from graduation. After making plans and arrangements to meet and repair his relationships with his family, he tragically is caught in a major car accident around Christmas Eve and horribly incapacitated, leaving him immobile and blind.

Some time later, he passes away from his injuries but lingers on as an earthbound spirit until his funeral.

At this point, the Playback Miko's powers latch onto his soul and summon him to the six-sided world.

Approximately the same time that his soul is summoned, Nanahoshi Shizuka perishes saving Shinohara Akihito from a truck passing a red light.

-Alpha Prime Timeline-

The events are the same as the other timelines up until approximately K390.

Elinalise partially regains her memories as Rostelina after meeting [redacted], leading her to leave her newborn child and breaking her tradition of raising her child to maturity.

The general flow of events remain the same until K407 when Rudeus Greyrat is born.

However, due to the unstable nature of the Alpha Prime timeline and the nature of the soul born as Rudeus Greyrat, infinite branches split off from his birth.

In order to resolve this quandry, and to prevent Hitogami from taking advantage of the instability to revert both the Beta timeline and the Alpha Prime timeline to the source timeline [redacted] arranges Technique God Laplace to arrive and sever the more volatile branches by using the 'Observer' theory and reducing the branches to a single active 'worldline.'

[redacted]

-Lostbelts-

These are branches that have been severed as a result of Technique God Laplace's interference, consigned to the imaginary space of 'possibility.'

Rather than a single point in time, these are 'belts' of time that have been lost due to the origin point now being impossible.

-L.I: Knight-

Rudeus Greyrat walks the path of body enhancement and the blade. He maintains his childhood friendship with Sylphy but never leaves Buina village. During the metastasis incident, he and Sylphy arrive in Princess Ariel's gardens, saving her from monsters and becoming her loyal knights.

-L.II: Divine Sword Saint-

During the metastasis incident, he travels with his wives to rescue those caught up in the incident and successfully rescues his family.

However, Hitogami sees him as too much of a threat and sets him up to fight against Orsted.

After an intense fight, Rudeus emerges victorious. But in the meantime, Gisu and Hitogami's other apostles have assassinated his family.

By chance, Rudy and Eris do not encounter Ruijerd. Fortunately, Rudy is much more competent than his counterpart and manages to protect Eris, albeit at the cost of countless battle scars.

He learns early on about the metastasis incident and creates an army of automatons to scour the land.

Upon reuniting with his father in Milis and learning of the treatment of the victims and the noble's callousness, Rudeus adopts the name Rudeus Notus Greyrat, declaring Eris as his lady and invades Milis, conquering it with an endless army of automatons before excising the corrupt nobility.

-L.?: R.N.G-

The currently observed timeline. Although not currently a lostbelt, it possesses the ability to turn into one at any moment.

The first divergence point is the assimilation of fragments of the Dragon God's authority due to Rudy's childhood mana transfusion as well as portions of the Playback Miko's authority.

The second divergence point is the forced partial assimilation of Alpha Rudeus's personality and memories, triggering a timeline reversal.

The third divergence point is the forced separation of Alpha Rudeus and Rudy by Rostelina.

-L.IV-

A wish was made, but could not be fulfilled.

Despair split time in half, leaving a world forgotten in the future and a world changed in the past.

A lost soul wandered and struck a deal in order to obtain revenge, giving up his existence in exchange to free one trapped by madness.

Three worlds, reduced to dust and resigned to memory. As to the fourth...
