Sight, Veil and Map

Facing towards Salvatore Sid cautiously said "Now for my final and greatest of godly gifts," before curtly uttering, "Brace yourself."

Without the slightest hesitation he quickly placed both his hands firmly on the sides of his head, then smoothly thrusting both of his thumbs deeply into the center of his eyes.

Instantly Salvatore unleashed a bloodcurdling scream "AHHHHH" as he felt liquid lightning coursed through his brain and down his spine while his eyes felt like they were pierced with red-hot scorching iron rods.

As swiftly as the pain started it stopped, maintaining his firm grip Sid examined the inner workings of Salvatore's body for any permanent damage, satisfied with what he found he smoothly withdrew his thumbs from his eyes which were strangely whole, then removed his hands.

Breathing Heavily, Salvatore slowly calmed his racing heart. Although he had trained to endure some of the most brutal forms of torture possible for a human to experience, the pain he had just suffered was beyond the realm of human capabilities.

Sighing now that he was free of the nightmarish agony he stated breathlessly, "That was definitely the most painful experience I have ever had to endure."

"A fleeting moment of agony, is a small price to pay for what I have bestowed. You, a puny mortal, have been linked to the Deity System, a privilege exclusive of the Starverse's gods."

"Now that you have been linked to the gods "Deity System" you will have a slight advantage over others. With its advanced capabilities you will be able to control your status menu, see key information such as your health and magic bars as well as your map and even access the primordial archive, which houses the collective knowledge of the Starverse."

"Furthermore I have given you the sight of a god, which can see thru deception as well as reveal hidden truths about the world and the many items in it. However you currently do not meet the minimum level nor perception stat requirements so I have been forced, for your own good, to place several layers of restriction in place to prevent any brain damage."

"However once you reach level 10 and have increased you perception stat to a suitable amount the layers of restrictions will naturally begin to unlock allowing you to access the full capabilities of the [god sight] I have bestowed upon you."

Hearing Sid's explanation Salvatore suddenly noticed that 2 parallel bars, one red, the other black had appeared in the lower left corner of his field-of-vision, but what truly astounded him was that now he could see a string of letters and two bars above the head of everyone and everything. And if he continued to focus his sight for a short amount of time a translucent window that displayed information about them would suddenly appear in his sight which he could easily move around with his mind.

Sid curiously enough was the only thing in his sight without the string of letters and two bars. Intrigued Salvatore focused upon him for a few seconds causing a small translucent window to appear.

Name: Sidus Dei

Class: ????????

Level: ????????????

"Hmm...it's not working" he muttered in dismay.

Noticing Salvatore's despondent expression Sid's eyes suddenly flashed with a discerning realization.

"Don't try and peep on me boy it's pointless. You'd have a better chance trying to kill a dragon blindfolded with a raging hard-on and both your hands tied behind you back than you would at piercing thru the veil of godly obscurity."

"What is the veil of godly obscurity?"

"Well you're a mortal while I'm a god. Their exist a very large chasm of comprehension between the two. For the safety of mortals the universe draws a firm dividing line between the two and obscures all information about us gods from mortals."

"Then how come I can see your name?"

"Because I told it to you, that is the only way around the veil for mortals. However should you manage to fully unlock your [god sight] you'll probably be able to pierce through without frying you brain."

"On the plus side, now that your linked to the [Deity System], your effectively considered a demigod by the universe. Well more like a demi-demigod, but that still qualifies you for the veil of godly obscurity. Although you won't get any fancy abilities, no mortal will be able to learn a blasted thing about you without you telling them that's damn for sure."

"Oh...NICE!"

"Yep, bet your britches that's nice!"

"So why does it take a few seconds for information to appear?"

"Oh..., your [god sight] is probably still on the default setting of three second time delayed activation, if you want you can change that in the settings menu, that's the last tab at the top of the status screen."

"You mentioned a map, but I don't see one, I see two bars but I don't see any map?"

"That is because it's never been opened before" Sid said informatively, "If you want to employ the HUD's mini-map feature you must first access the map menu so that it can sync with the STS (Starversal Tracking System), then if you so desire you can designate what system map features you would like to activate which include the mini-map feature that displays a miniaturized map in a selected corner of your field-of-vision."

"Oh, so how do I access it, is there a voice command system or do I have to think about it?"

"The system features a fully interactive interface system allowing you to use a variety of methods for access and commands including physical interaction, audio commands, as well as a fully mental interface system enabling you to manipulate every aspect of the system with targeted thoughts, in fact all of the systems currently accessible features can be accessed in this manner."

"Alright... WAIT! Current system accessible features, you mean there are other features unlocked beside my status information and the map?"

"Yes, there are other unlocked features, the ones that are currently available to you are, your status information, the map, the skill book, the quest log, and the codex."

"The first three are self explanatory, as for the quest log it will keep a precise record of your daily activities, drops, any skills you gain as well as list any quests and pertinent information pertaining to them you learn. The codex is basically a combination between a detailed help guide and a list of world Information, it will keep a record of everything you discover, and yes this is a feature only available to those who are linked to the [Deity System], so don't go around telling people about it. Also don't talk about any of those windows, mortals don't have access to that feature."

"Well that's it" Sid exclaimed loudly, "I have explained more than enough, you can figure out the rest by yourself."

"Don't forget to keep growing stronger, this world is all about who is the strongest, if you let your guard down for even a second you can die or experience something far worse than death."

"Also my Star Galaxy is filled with countless secrets, you would do well to seek them out, you never know what you may discover."

"Before you go is their anyway I can talk to you again?"

"Do what everyone else does when they want to talk to a god, pay a visit to their temple. Here, you'll need to use this password to access my private line" he said handing him a folded piece of paper.

Making a gracefully bow Sid flashed a smile before saying "I'm sure you will make me proud Salvatore, in order to survive in the hostile environment here you'll have to make use of all you skill, in fact I look forward to seeing how you grow, be sure to put on a magnificent performance."

Then flashing Salvatore a masterful "wink" he rose unleashing a giddy cackle before disintegrating into a whirlwind of countless tiny stars which shot into the sky.
