Laws of Immortality

*DAILY UPDATES* Life as an immortal is not really hard. For one thing, you don't have to worry about getting killed if you are not banished. You just have to follow three simple laws. The other laws are minor ones that you can easily bend. 1. You must obey and follow all orders and instructions that are issued by the Council of Immortals. Anyone who disobeys or questions the authority of the Council will be banished. 2. You shall not expose a mortal to the immortal world without the approval of the council. 3. You must kill your soulmate within a week of spotting them. See? Not that hard seeing as soulmates are mostly humans. All you have to do is follow three laws, but then again, laws are meant for breaking aren't they?

Law#5: A Trip to Memory Land Always Ends in Tears

Isaac's POV:

I couldn't help it. My mind automatically drifted back to her as soon as Isiah and Athena left. I managed to push it back down till I got to the mansion, but she invaded my thoughts again as I started to work on the drains.

It happened a little over a year ago, but the events were still fresh in my mind, like they happened just yesterday. My mind started to veer back to that day, the day that changed my life...

I looked at the time and cursed. Athena had asked me to drive her to the Apollo Clan, as she had some business there.

"She's definitely going to kill me," I muttered lowly, and I started to walk back to the hotel. But something on the way caught my eye.

It was a small stall situated a few feet away from me.

A girl was selling cookies and cupcakes. Well, it's more like trying to sell them. She was kind of cute. Auburn hair, hazel eyes with tiny freckles on her nose, and a pretty face. She looked around my age and couldn't have been more than five feet away.

I didn't know what, but some unknown force just pulled me towards her.

Suddenly, she stood up and started walking in my direction, with a bag of cookies in her hand. I looked at her in disbelief as I realized something.

She was walking toward me.

My heartbeat started to rise. I panicked and tried to walk away, but something kept me rooted to the spot. She hesitated for a moment before crossing the few feet that separated us with short but determined strides. I panicked and tried to walk away, but something kept me rooted to the spot. She gave me a blinding smile as soon as she reached me.

She was even more beautiful up close. Her hazel eyes twinkled in the sunlight, and all I wanted to do was run my hands through her auburn hair, which looked so soft. It was sadly tied up in a pony tail.

"Hi, I'm Zane. I am selling cookies to raise money for the orphanage around the corner. I baked them myself. Would you like to buy some?" She asked. Her voice was melodious and filled with hope. I just nodded awkwardly, not trusting myself to speak. The last thing I wanted to do was say something stupid and scare her away.

"Really?" She asked in disbelief, as if not believing what happened.

"Yes," I said. She let out a weird sound happily.

"Thank you so much! I've been trying to sell these things for like an hour now, but no one seems to want them. Have you ever tried to sell hot chocolate chip cookies on a July morning? -" She rambled on while I just looked at her in amusement. She was so cute when she rambled. I didn't know why, but just watching her seemed to make me happy.

She stopped speaking suddenly when she noticed me staring at her. She started to blush, rubbed her neck awkwardly, and handed me the bag of cookies. Our hands brushed when I got it from her, and at that moment, I knew.

"No," I whispered in disbelief. She can't be my mate! I thought to myself. A slow smile made its way onto her lips.

"Whoa," she said shakily.

"I've heard of sparks flying between two people, but that was just insane!" I wanted to scream at her to run away from me, but nothing came out. Her expression turned into one of concern as she looked at me closely.

"Dude, are you okay? You look like you just saw a ghost," she pointed out, sounding concerned. I quickly regained my composure. I knew I had to act quickly. I shook my head at her. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to calm myself down. There had to be a way out of this mess. Maybe this is just a bad dream. I thought.

But when I opened my eyes, she was still standing there, looking like the angel she was.

"How long will you be here?" I asked. I needed to know if I could meet her again.

"Till noon. Why?" She asked curiously.

"No reason." I quickly handed some dollar bills to her, not caring how much I gave, and started running to the hotel as fast as I could.

"Weird, he didn't even ask for change." I heard her mumbling in the distance. As soon as I reached the hotel, I dashed through the lobby and ran up the stairs to the second floor like a madman, ignoring the weird looks people were giving me. Our room was locked, but I didn't bother knocking.

I knocked it down.

Isiah didn't even spare me a glance, while Athena jumped up in surprise and started yelling some colorful words when the liquid she was drinking spilled all over her black shirt.

"What the actual hell, Isaac? Not only have you made me late for my meeting with one of the most important clan leaders, but you've also managed to ruin my suit. Fan-fucking-tastic! Do you know how much this cost me? This is a bloody Prada-"

"Would you just shut up for a minute and listen to me? I have more pressing problems than your bloody suit getting ruined," I snapped. That made her shut up, but not for long. Isiah let out a low whistle.

"Someone's in a mood today," he remarked, still not turning to face me.

"Yeah, who lit the fuse in your tampon?" She asked in a teasing manner, but her face was filled with concern. I wanted to say many things, but like with Zane, nothing came out of my mouth.

"It's not about your car, is it?" Athena asked, biting her lip nervously. I looked at her, confused.

"What's wrong with my car?"

"I took it for a race and got some scratches on it," she blurted out. I didn't answer.

"I promise I'll get it done later!" She said she was throwing her hands up in surrender. I sighed. If it weren't for the fact that I had just found my soulmate, who practically looked like an angel and whom I had to kill as fast as I could, I would have chased her around the room, throwing fireballs at her. But unfortunately, that was not the case.

"I'm guessing from the look on your face it's not about that." She asked hesitantly, bringing me out of my thoughts.

"No," I replied, slumping against the nearest couch.

"What happened?" Isiah asked, finally focusing his full attention on me. I couldn't say it out loud. Just the thought of her dying made me want to kill myself.

"She doesn't deserve to die," I mumbled, putting my head in my hands.

"Who?" Isiah asked, sounding confused.

Athena started spewing a curse for every letter in the alphabet. I guess she figured it out. Isiah, however, wasn't that bright.

"What?" He asked again. I heard a loud smack followed by a groan as Athena snapped at him.

"Lover boy here has found his mate, you dumbass." I looked up to see a stupefied-looking Isiah and Christakos pacing back and forth in the room, mumbling something incoherently. The whole room was dead silent, and with the way she was pacing, one would think that she was the one who had found her soulmate. Not me.

"I'm going to go and try to process this while our dear Athena here brainstorms on how to get us out of this mess as usual," Isiah said, finally breaking the silence and going into his room. I looked at him in disbelief as he walked away. Way to go, twin. I thought bitterly.

She was still pacing the room while I sat on the couch, drowning in my own misery. Why the heck did this have to happen to me? I just turned eighteen a month ago, and this happened. And why did it have to be her? Why? I asked myself. Suddenly, Athena came and slapped me. Hard.

"What the hell, Athena?" I exclaimed, groaning in pain. She rolled her eyes at me.

"Now you call me by my name," she mumbled. I opened my mouth, but she cut me off.

"Stop wallowing in self-pity and take us to her," she said. I looked at her incredulously.

"Yeah, right," I said, rolling my eyes. "So you can go and kill her? I meant what I said, Athena. She doesn't deserve to die."

"Well, have it your way then. If you don't kill her, someone else will, and I assure you, they won't be as gentle as we are," she warned. I fell silent at that. She was right. I made my decision.

"Let's go," I said.

"I'll go and get Isiah," she said, rushing in the direction of Isaac's room as I waited outside our door. She returned a minute later with Isiah by her side. Nobody said anything. Isiah was the one who broke the silence.

"So we're doing this, huh?" he said.

Athena looked at me for confirmation. I gave a hesitant nod.

A lone tear rolled down my cheeks as I recalled the biggest mistake I had made in my life.

I had killed my soulmate.
