Chapter Forty-Two

Mira's heart nearly stopped as she watched everyone stand with Vilen, leaving only Alzie, Kylo, and Indigo sitting. They were outnumbered, and out of ways to try to save Cyro. She could feel her breath getting caught in her throat as guards began grabbing Cyro again. Felt her heart sinking to her stomach, she couldn't hear anything as she saw everyone beginning to yell and scream. Kylo holding Alzie back as Indigo got in Vilens face.

"I'm pregnant," She whispered it at first so only the guards could hear. "I'M PREGNANT!" She shouted this time, making everyone freeze in place.

"Lies," Vilen sneered as he looked at her.

"No, not lies." She moved to Cyro undoing his binds as the guards backed away. "I've been carrying his beastly since the second night here."

She watched as Cyro fell to his knees and placed his hands on her hips. He placed his head against her belly, the coolness of his scales feeling nice against her skin. She didn't care what anyone else though of them in that moment. If they wouldn't listen to any other reason, then maybe they'll listen to this one. She stroked his horns with one hand and placed the other under his chin. She wondered if he could hear anything, if its even possible to hear anything. The room had gone completely silent, except for the sound of a chair moving across the floor. Cyro jumped up and moved her behind him the moment they heard it. She peeked from behind to see who it was. The owl-like beast moved towards them gracefully, as everyone else seemed to be backing away. They were wearing a white, silky gown that trailed behind them. Everyone but Vilen and Indigo. Indigo moved behind her as to help protect her. The owl beast stopped right in front of Cyro but stared into Mira's eyes. She wasn't afraid of this beast, but she also knew not to be fooled by their beauty. They stretched their hand out to her, waiting for her to make a decision. She moved passed Cyro, who grabbed her arm to try to stop her, and placed her hand in theirs. She didn't pull her arm from Cyro's as she knew what the beast was doing as they flipped her hand over. She watched as the black eyes examined her hand. Their hands were soft, like a mix between fur and feathers. They let go of her hand and used a finger to lift her chin, examining her face now.

"How old are you?" Their voice was soft and sweet, very fitting for their appearance.

"Twenty-five. Who are you?" She didn't take her eyes off of them as they paced around her forcing Cyro to let her go.

"A human, not of this world, yet somehow here." There was a certain sternness hidden beneath the softness of their voice. "Fallen for a beast," theirs moved to Cryo. 'Who first fell for her, neither belonging yet fighting to fit." They smiled and looked at the ceiling. "You ask who I am, yet don't seem to even question how it is your in our world."

Mira was stunned from the words that left the hall in silence. The thought that this beast knew she wasn't supposed to be here was more than enough to shock her. She wanted to go home; however she had slowly come to terms she couldn't now that she was carrying. The thought of why had left her mind a month ago. Her heart began to race as she thought of all the reasons, they could possibly be bringing that up. She couldn't go home even if there was a chance, the baby would be taken from her and experimented on. Going back now would be to sentence her and the baby to a life of misery, torture. The feeling of Cryos hand on her belly jogged her back to reality. His breath on her neck as he moved closer to her.

"Her presence here is of no concern to anyone." Cryos voice held a growl of dominance in it, she could almost feel his protectiveness physically surrounding her. It was like a warmth embrace that filled her with peace.

"I, myself, can only think one reason of why she is here. And it has nothing to do with any of you." She watched as he growled with the last words making sure to make eye contact with everyone.

"Why don't you say what you want with me." She spoke coldly and demanding. Ever since she came here it's been nothing but beasts wanting something from her. Good and bad. Quiet frankly she was tired of it.

The owl-like beast slowly turned their gaze onto her, their eyes seemed to pierce right through her. She watched as they moved closer to her and lifted a hand to point to the single window that showed the sunsetting.

"The groundlings have been coming every night, my girl." They spoke slow and calmly, yet loud enough for everyone to hear. "Every night their numbers grow greater, this is the first to ever happen. Just like it's the first for a human to be among us."

The room that was once quiet grew with the whispers of the beasts that surrounded them. She looked around at them as they whispered and watched her, their eyes now more curious and penetrating. She knew the owl meant that the groundlings were after her. However, she couldn't understand why the hordes of groundlings growing outside would even want her. She noticed some of the beasts harbored fear in their eyes. The sun slowly falling darkening the room. She hadn't realized they had been there that long.

"I say we give her to the groundlings!" Shouted the bobcat.

"No, we should move her somewhere safe! The groundlings obviously want her for some reason, lets use that to our advantage!" It was the bear that spoke this time.

"Are you mad! They would just follow her!" The bobcat retorted.

"Then we mask her scent!" This time the mountain lion chipped in. Causing all the beast to go into an uproar.

She covered her ears unable to handle all the noise around her. Her stomach becoming sick, with slight cramps following. She felt her feet lift off the ground, Cyro's gentle scaled hands holding her close. The further they move from the noise, the better she felt. However, her stomach still cramped her hands moved to her belly as she realized what was happening. She watched in amaze meant and horror as her stomach grew. Now her little bump was the size of a 5-month pregnant woman. Cyro set her down on a chair and placed his hands on her belly as well. She couldn't tell what he was thinking as he felt her belly, his eye full of a look she never saw before. Five minutes passed by as they sat in the hall, neither uttering a word. Then a smile broke across his face.

"You'll be able to give birth soon!" He smiled at her trying to hide his concern that was written in his eye. "Lizard eggs hatch in 60 days."

"But I'm not a lizard." She raised her eyebrows at him.

"Yes, I know that's the part that concerns me." The smile fell from his face as he looked back down at her belly.

"We have a wonderful medical area where she can receive the best care possible." The looked up surprised that they from got about the owl beast was there. Mira's thoughts raced as she thought of the next best step to take.
