Compensation. (Part 1)

Going downstairs, Gray looked around the spacious hall.

It was exactly the same as what he'd seen a few minutes ago. Only the people lying on the floor and their belongings were scattered everywhere.

Carefully, Gray tried to walk through the sleeping people, but he did wake up a couple of people.

"Young man, where are you going?"

"To the bathroom."

"The bathroom is on the other side."

As he looked at the older man, he realized that his lie was quickly discovered.

'The security guard? He might know how to get there.'

Deciding to make his search easier, he looked up an older man in a special security uniform.

Pointing to the second floor at the other end of the museum, Gray asked him.

"I need to get to that side over there. Do you happen to know how to get there?"

As if he had expected such a question, the man nodded eagerly and quickly told him the fastest way to get there.

"But, young man... You shouldn't go there. There's a bandit boy who thinks he's in charge there now."

'Bandit?'

He listened with interest as the old man spoke ill of some man in a white jacket.

"Anyway, I don't advise you to go there. There are a couple of his guards at the entrance, so you're not likely to get anything out of him. He might even take away your food under the guise of fair distribution."

"Okay, thank you, I hear you. Here you go! This is my gratitude!"

He took a couple of packages of jerky and a chocolate bar out of his jacket, laid them out, and turned around. Leaving the old man, who was about to refuse such a gift, in amazement.

'What a hustling youngster!'

As he ascended the second floor by another staircase, as the old man had advised, he noticed two big men guarding the entrance to the guard room.

Roughly assessing his chances, Gray turned the other way and went through the next door.

Once in the bathroom, he heard women moaning in one of the stalls. Ignoring them, he walked past them, trying not to make unnecessary noises.

Gray didn't want to disturb the fun-loving youth. This might be the last time they would be able to spend such a romantic evening.

As he approached the window, he noticed that there were no bars on them.

'Great!'

As he opened the window, a dense red mist poured over him. Slightly waiting for his lungs to get used to the burning sensation, Gray tried to assess the surroundings.

There was a small street below, with a vaguely visible silhouette eating something in a garbage can. On the other side was the bare wall of a nearby building.

Turning his head toward the security room, he sighed in relief.

'No bars! Apparently, they wanted to upgrade them, but didn't have time.'

Looking at the brand-new bars on the opposite side, the young man made an assumption.

Climbing up a protruding piece of wall, he tried to make his way carefully to the adjacent, unprotected window.

"Mr. Nicho... Aah! Mr. Nicholas!"

"Ha ha, what's my bead?"

Flirtatiously, the young guy with glasses looked at the girl in the revealing outfit and lightly bit her ear.

"It seemed... Ah!"

The exhausted girl leaned on his shoulder.

"You rascal, young master! By the way, I think I heard someone's footsteps."

Pouting slightly, she tapped her fists on the young lad's shoulder.

"What?! How long ago?"

"A few minutes ago."

Smiling, she looked at the young guy's surprised face.

"Why didn't you say that before?!"

"I... You wouldn't let me do it!"

Pouting again, she looked at this unscrupulous young gentleman.

Hastily running out of the stall, Nicholas found an open window to the street.

"Who's there!!! Harry!"

Calling for the personal guard assigned by his uncle, he began to look around the booths.

"Yes, young master!"

"Did you let anyone in?"

Closing the window, he stared intently at the guard, whose eyes were lowered to the floor at this moment.

"No, young master!"

"Were you here?!"

Suspiciously, he looked at the denying guard.

"No, young master! I let no one in, and I dare not come in here while you are here, young master!"

"You've been standing at the door and guarding it the whole time, haven't you?"

Slowly, he lowered his gaze to the pants of the nodding guard. You could see a couple of faint drops on his pants.

"Fucking idiot! I told you! You have to stand there until I tell you to stop it!"

Enraged, he kicked the slumped guard several times.

"And I don't care if you want to go to the bathroom or not! If I told you to do something, you have to do it! And I don't care if you shit your pants or if the world is facing the apocalypse! My word is the highest priority around here! Do you understand me?!"

Without stopping kicking the guard, the guy yelled louder and louder at him.

While the man was left to nod low, putting up with the antics of this spoiled brat.

'Damn idiots! You still need to be taught everything! He can't even properly train his dogs...'

Thinking about his uncle made his mood slightly worse, but once back in the stall, he quickly forgot what had happened.

Gray, on the other hand, gently opened the unlocked window and climbed in. There was a small storeroom of tools for the technicians.

Opening the next door slightly, he peered through the small crack at what was going on behind it.

A pair of candles burned in the dark room, illuminating a small room with monitors and a large panoramic window.

On the couch lay a man with a scar on his brow.

'It was from here that the aura of an evolving mental type emanated.'

Carefully approaching the figure, he drew his pistol and put it to the sleeping man's head.

At that moment, the man woke up and reflexively reached under his pillow with his hand.

"Who is there!?"

"Don't move! One more move and I'll blow your brains out!"

Threateningly, Gray tapped the man's head with the muzzle of his gun.

"Who the hell are you? And how did you get in here?!"

"I'll be asking the questions here!"

With a sharp movement, he stepped on his hand, which was trying to get inconspicuously close to the pillow.

"Ah! Shit!"

"Get up! Hurry up, or you'll feel what it's like to be a male mantis!"

He grinned as he watched the embittered man slowly get up, his eyes unable to tear himself away from the pillow.

"Don't be so angry, after all, you started it. You're the evolved mental type, aren't you?"

Lifting the pillow, Gray found there a large pistol with an interesting gilded and marbled finish.

"Nice gun."

Nodding approvingly, he replaced his own with this imposing gun.

"I don't know what you mean! You come into my room and threaten me with a gun! Who the hell do you think you are?!"

"Shut up, I told you, didn't I? I'm asking the questions here!"

He came closer and hit the man on the nose with the handle of his gun, after which he fell down and hit the table.

This sound could not have been unnoticed by the guards. As they broke in, they noticed their boss sitting on the floor, covering his nose, while the young guy held their boss's gun to his head.

"Nobody moves! Take one step in our direction, and I'll blow his head off, and then I'll do it to you too!"
