Cute... oh god

What stood before the eyes of Kenvas was small—the size of your average house cat. Yet a feeling of dread wormed its way into the heart of Kenvas as the small black blob turned towards him. He didn't know if it actually turned towards him or if he moved its jagged fangs in his direction, as it had no eyes. But it might as well have been the same.

The dark blob pounced toward him. And as quickly as it jumped, it was smashed against the floor. The heart of Kenvas pounded, as even he was surprised at himself by his actions. Adrenaline flew through his veins as he looked at his surroundings.

The orb illuminated enough of the room to see even more blobs feasting on the corpse of a fellow human. Feeling the light, the blobs turned around and chittered their teeth at the human that killed their brothers. The two blobs turned towards him, and they pounced at Kenvas at the same time. He was able to hit one of them with his orb, but the other one managed to bite into his arm despite his efforts to dodge away.

"Aghh fuck!. You little shit, you just bit me. A aghh!. And it didn't just bite him; it latched onto his right shoulder and wouldn't let go; he had no choice but to hit it while it was latched onto him.

*wack!*

One hit, just like the rest.

With all three of them dead, the adrenaline released its hold on Kenvas. Slumping down, he looked at his arm and winced when he saw his injuries. If he didn't get this treated properly, he was sure to bleed to death. 'Damn, do I really have to take off my last piece of clothing?' He debated whether he should use his last piece of clothing. Not only did he lose his handsomeness and maturity in one day, but now he's about to become a nudist! It hurt more than the wound on his shoulder.

Then he looked toward the corpse of his fellow human. The man's clothes were filthy, stained with blood and other unknown substances. It could not be used. "Wait, can't I just use the clothes I took off earlier?" He unwittingly face-palmed and groaned when he moved his wounded arm.

Standing up with difficulty, Kenvas walked towards the corpse, looking through its chewed-up body for something useful. All he found was a blue knife. Its handle had leather grips, and its blade looked dull. Carrying it with him, he walked to the corridor where he dropped his clothes.

As he did not have the strength to tear the clothes apart, Kenvas decided to use the knife instead. He gave a little prayer for the man he left to a god he didn't believe in and took his clothes to a corner so he could work on them. With his back to the corner of the room, he began working on his pants.

Enduring the pain, the pants were cut into strips, and so were his underwear. It took some work getting the dull blade to cut into the jeans, but Kenvas managed.

Kenvas now had to treat his wounds. He wrapped a cloth tightly around his shoulder before tying it tight. He decided to use the orb for its intended purpose for the first time and stored the other strips of cloth inside it. It was very easy and took no effort other than his will.

Now that he was finished, he had to continue exploring. There were many problems he had yet to solve, such as food and water and a place to sleep. He went back to the next room and stored the corpses of the blobs he killed; the scriptures taught him to always keep your kills.

Walking past the corpse and going into the next room, there was nothing of note, as there were no enemies in this room or the next. But the room after that had more enemies. All four blobs noticed his presence and chittered their teeth. The same feeling of dread wormed its way into his heart. But he was ready this time.

He acted first, bringing the orb down onto the first blob-- killing it. The other three blobs jumped towards him, baring their teeth, itching to have a taste of Kenvas's flesh.

*wack*

He hit another one while it was mid-air, throwing it off course over his head. The other two had to be avoided; his orb wasn't fast enough to hit these two before they got to him. With that said, he flung himself to the right, successfully avoiding their vicious bites. He had already experienced them once before, and he didn't want it to happen again.

Observing the area, the blob he hit was still alive. Kenvas quite literally had his back to the wall. To give some perspective, the rooms so far seem to have a perimeter varying between 10 and 20 feet—not very large, but the enemies aren't either.

He faced off against the two blobs that he dodged. The one he hit mid-air was still alive but didn't seem to be a problem; they seemed to be very fragile. The rest of the blobs were light work, needing very little effort from then on.

After killing the last blob, he took a proper look around the room. Another half-eaten corpse lying on the ground, but this time it wasn't a human, but a goblin. Well, that's what Kenvas thought it was. It was green, short, had a long nose, and had sharp claws. And it stinks worse than the human corpse back then.

He stored the four blobs in his orb. The rest of the rooms he encountered were similar; the enemies were sometimes more, sometimes less. Yet in every room that had blobs, there were always corpses, half eaten. And he also noticed the blobs get bigger—longer, to be exact.

*wack wack*

The longer ones were slower, but not only was the feeling of dread stronger, but they were more durable than the blobs from before. No, they weren't blobs. Kenvas has already realized what these truly were. These were maggots, this whole time he was killing maggots. But another fearful thought crawled into his mind: if these are maggots, doesn't that mean that a fully grown adult laid the eggs they hatched from? Do they even come from eggs?

And then he heard it.

A sharp buzzing sound reverberated in the distance…

besides the whole teeth thing, they were cute for a moment
