20 Chapter 20 - Beginner

Chapter 20 - Beginner

Glen started his first-ever serious jogging after he arrived at the park. His spirit was burning with passion for this because he wanted to become stronger in the game but he also wanted to be healthy.

For the past 20 years of his life, he never took exercise seriously. All he wanted was to study so that he could get good results in school.

However, the situation had changed. He did not enter university and had entered the workforce instead. He might not be working under someone else but still, it was the same.

Opening an internet café sounded easy but it was not. He had to run around the café to serve the customers who wanted this and that. He was no different than a waiter in a restaurant.

He had helped his parents before a lot but all he needed to do was take care of the counter. The ones running around serving the customers were his parents.

Now that he thought about it, he might not be that good of a son after all. Still, he wanted to redeem himself by taking good care of his siblings.

He needed to make sure that the café was running properly and service was top notch. After taking care of the café for one day, alone, Glen knew how hard the job was.

With his poor stamina, he got tired easily running around the internet café. This was also another reason why he took exercise seriously. He needed more stamina to manage the internet café to his best.

Employing a part-timer would be hard at the moment. He did not have the capital to hire one. So, he needed to endure it by himself.

So, he needed to exercise to do well in life.

Be that as it may, 10 minutes after he started running, Glen stopped at a nearby tree. He held the tree in one hand and the other hand on his waist.

"HUH! HUH! HUH!" Glen was breathing heavily. He was wheezing hard too. 'Jogging is hard! This is too tiring!' He stood there silently until his breaths calmed. After that, he started running again.

However, five minutes later, the same situation happened again.

"T_T" Glen felt like crying. He felt pathetic and when he remembered that girl, he felt much inferior and pathetic. The girl had been running steadily but he had stopped twice trying to stabilize his breathing.

'A girl is stronger than me… How can a man be this weak?' Glen sighed. He did not want to compare with that girl but he could not help it. Since he recognized her, it was hard to not see a comparison. More so when they were not an acquaintance at all.

People tend to compare themselves with people they were not close to and Glen did the same.

After he felt better, he started running again but he stopped again for the same problem. He wanted to force himself but he knew he could not do that.

"If you are new to this, start with walking and increase your pace once you feel fine walking for long-distance. You cannot rush this on the first day. Take things slowly. A beginner will not be able to do the same as the regular."

Suddenly, Glen heard a girl's voice spoken to him from behind. He looked in that direction and that girl had stopped her jog and was looking at Glen.

She did not show a face of contempt or disdain. Instead, she looked worried.

"It will be dangerous if you force yourself too much," the girl added.

"…" Glen did not know what to say but he still thanked her, "Thank you. I will be careful."

The girl nodded and after staring at Glen for a bit, she continued her jog. Glen looked at the beautiful girl leaving him and he blushed.

He felt extremely embarrassed with what had happened. He was not sure if she recognized him but still, he did two embarrassing things in front of her.

"I should try to method too," suddenly, a young man passed by in front of Glen. He looked at Glen and gave him a thumbs up. "You got the attention of a beauty! I should try this method later." The young man giggled and left.

"… What the?" Glen was speechless. The young man thought that he did this on purpose to get the attention of the girl.

Glen followed the girl's advice and walked instead of running. He did a few laps in the park and he found out that even walking a lap was tiring enough and he tried to run from the beginning? Glen shook his head pathetically.

An hour later, he left the park and got back home. He felt really tired and never felt like this before. He took a shower to freshen up and started preparing breakfast for his siblings.

After that, they left for school and Glen opened the internet café. He learned his lesson and would not play the game while working. He sat behind the counter and decided to read more about Beast Life.

However, before he could start, the regular customer arrived. He registered the man and after making small talk with each other, that customer went to his VR device and started playing Beast Life.

"I never saw him in Maru South Village," Glen mumbled. Since they started at the same location, they should meet each other in the village but Glen never saw that regular customer and then, he realized something.

"He plays in the morning while I play at night," Glen nodded and continued surfing the internet.

He was reading the forum to see if he could find any useful information and he did find one.

[Anyone knows how to fix the teleportation device in the game?] the post asked.

Glen remembered that Bertha said that the village's teleportation device was broken and no one could fix it in the village. So, they were unable to get help from other places during the beast tide.

'I guess this guy's village is like that too,' Glen thought and he started reading the post. Surprisingly, there were many players in the same situation too.

All of them could only stay in the village or visit the nearby village. If they wanted to get further, they needed to strengthen their beasts and travel in the wilderness by foot.

'I think one of the players will get a mission to fix the device. I hope one of us gets the mission,' Glen wanted to visit other towns and cities too but without the teleportation device, he could not visit them at the moment.

Glen was reading the posts when suddenly, a new pin post appeared. Since it was a pinned post, that meant it was from the developer.
