Chapter 13 – Silver Frog Beast

"Anyway, do you guys encounter any problem in the wild?" Suddenly, Glen heard one of the players speak.

"Oh, are you talking about the players from other villages assaulting this village's player?" His friend asked back.

"Yup. There was a huge battle yesterday further north from the village. The players from the Maru South-East, Maru Center and this village were fighting intensely but our village's player got lucky when a strong player appeared and saved them," the player spoke.

"We are still early in the game but PK is happening on a large scale. I don't know what they are thinking while doing this. All of the players are still poor early in the game and they gain nothing from defeating us," the friend spoke.

The player heard his friend said that and he looked around carefully before he said in a low tone, "It is weird and not only one or two but many of them are adamant in defeating us."

"There is a theory going around in the village that the players from these two villages are doing a secret mission worth a lot of rewards."

"Secret mission and that is to defeat us???"

"We are not the only one they assault. Apparently, players from the South-West, East, and West are attacked too. They did not seem to have a real target but attacked anyone, not from their village. So, this is not a real PK but a targeted attack."

"Many players that knew about this speculating the two villages got a secret mission and since they got the mission, we would get one too. So, I overheard some players saying that they will do what the two villages' players do for preparations when we get the secret mission."

Glen heard that but he did not think much about it. The player attacking another player was normal in MMO. Whatever their target was, this was happening all the time in the game.

Still, he also found it a bit weird that they were attacking specifically players from another village. If the rumor about the secret mission was true, then, it was not wrong for the players in the village to do the same before they got the mission.

Even so, Glen decided to be extra careful when he got out of the village. He might have the Private Room to escape but if he failed to get inside in time, he would end up being defeated and Bubbly would lose some of his power.

That cannot happen no matter what.

After he finished his breakfast, Glen and Bertha went to the beast's stable at the back of the inn.

"Let me see your beast," Glen spoke.

Bertha took out a small metallic cube that had a small button on it. She clicked on the button and the box opened as if it was a transformer. A light flew out of the cube to the ground and a beast appeared there.

The cube was a device created in the game to store the beast but they were not available in the village. So, all the players could only let their beast follow them all the time.

It was a silver frog around the size of a ZBox 720 game console of the past. The body of the frog was metallic silver and it looked beautiful.

Glen had seen the frog many times since he started living at the inn and no matter how many times he saw it, he liked the appearance of the frog.

The Silver Frog could not be found nearby the village. The players needed to search for them further from the village. It was an uncommon beast and usually lived underground.

So, if a player wanted to search for the Silver Frog, they needed to search whatever hole they could find in the prairie because the frog might live inside it or if the player was lucky, they could find the beast loitering around in an open area.

Glen appraised the Silver Frog using his Beginner Appraisal skill.

When Glen first appraised Bertha's Silver Frog, he was surprised to see that it was Rank 5. Silfra was the strongest beast he had seen in the village. He had yet to see the other villagers' pet beast but they might have a high rank too.

Since Glen knew how hard it was to raise a beast's rank, seeing a Rank 5 beast so close to him was fascinating.

Moving on, there were almost ninety upgrade methods available. Even so, out of ninety of them, only one method was confirmed which was the Silver Claw Frog and Glen found this method in a book. Still, the materials needed were ridiculously rare according to the book.

Not only that but the process of upgrading took a long time with the complicated procedure. Furthermore, the success rate was low. All this data was mentioned in the book he read.

Be that as it may, Glen did not decide to use this hard method. He preferred to use better methods from the list and there were a lot of them.

Although all of them were unconfirmed methods, the success rate was higher based on Data Saver.

Glen pretended to check the Silver Frog carefully. Since he did not have the proper apparatus to examine the Silver Frog, he just checked the beast with his hand.

He had read a lot of books and there were many examination methods he could do but most of them required specific equipment.

Even so, there was also a more simplistic method and he used that method to examine the beast such as measuring the size, weight, and so on.

Bertha knew Glen's situation and she did not mind this crude method of examination. Moreover, even with money, there was no way for Glen to get the equipment as they were not available in the village.

As Glen did a simple examination on the Silver Frog, surprisingly, it updated the upgrade method available. No new methods were available but the detail in the existing methods was more specific such as the measurement.

Moreover, the success rate of some of the methods increased with the updated data.

'I guess I still need to do this to add more data and increase the methods' success rate. I should do this when I upgrade Bubbly later,' Glen noted this in mind.

All the data provided by the Appraisal was not enough and even if the beast was the same species, there would be a lot of things different between them. Size and mass were usually one of the few differences between beasts of the same species.

Glen was glad that he pretended to do the examination and not fully rely on the Appraisal. As such, he decided to do this every time he wanted to upgrade a beast.

After he did all the examinations he could do, he stood up and smiled at Bertha.

"I will try to concoct a method for Silfra. I will need a few days for this," Glen spoke.
