Chapter 25

The tone of his voice was soft and polite.

"What did he want now?" I wondered. It was bad timing; I needed to be alone.

But I followed him meekly. He was moving forward, and I was one step behind him.

We were heading to his cabin. Maybe he wanted me for a job. Perhaps he had spilled something on the floor and wanted me to clean it up.

Or maybe I had forgotten a grain of dust during the dusting, and he wanted to scold me. I really couldn't guess anything. With the captain, I could never assume anything and come out true. He was unpredictable and always took me unaware.

After our last conversation, he didn't try to touch me, or kiss me again. He didn't even try to persuade me to stay with him, and he only spoke to me to say good morning or ask me something within the bounds of work.

This behavior of his assured me of my suspicions about him. He wanted me in his bed as many times as he wanted, and then he would reject me.
