Just To Meet You

*COMPLETED* "If you don't believe me, then follow the family rules." Her eyes closed as she faced her fiancé's accusations and distrust. She inwardly convinced herself. 'This is the last time I'm giving my heart to you, Peter. If you choose her, then we are over.' With a blade in his hand, he charged forward. He watched as the sharp tip of the weapon meets her soft, porcelain chest. Shocked by her unmoving body, he pulled the blade away from the broken skin. Her white top was dyed scarlet while the blade had already dropped to the floor, making a "clang" sound. "Why didn't you dodge?!" Peter Sin attempted few steps forward to apply pressure on her wound. It hurt, but she held in her cries. Blood squirted to his sleeve and shirt when he forced the blade out of her wound. Holding the bloody mess near her heart, a broken smile cracked on her face as she retreated away from the man in front of her. "At the end, you still chose her words over mine. You've never believed in me, but it doesn't matter anymore. Let's break up. Even if we pass by each other in the future, we'll be nothing but strangers." He tried approaching her again, but failed as she strode backwards in larger steps than before. "Mister Sin, goodbye." "Selina!" He screamed, but held back from chasing after her lonesome figure. His heart was a mess as he fell onto the ground and stared at the blood stain on his clothes. __________________ Selina Gu drove straight home where she had prepared herself to announce her failed engagement to her mother, Katrina Gu. Pressing her wound, she slowly leaned against the wall to bring herself to the living room where her mom's voice echoed loudly. Selina: "So, all my life..I've been nothing but a chess piece. Are you done with your game?" Katrina: "...Daughter." Selina: "Daughter? Do you know how many years and efforts I've wanted to hear you call me daughter? But all this is fake. Just an act. I've always convinced myself I'm the one who could do better because I wanted to hear a compliment from you. But you? You've forced me to the edge and suffocated me!" _____________________ Katrina: "It's mother's fault! Don't jump. I'm begging you!" Bryan (Selina's brother): "Did you get bullied? Brother will protect you. Please, come back down! It's dangerous to stand at the edge! You don't know how to swim!" "I don't want to play this game anymore. I'm tired of my life. Didn't you want revenge? I'll complete it for you. Sorry, brother." Selina fell forward with her eyes closed. She didn't struggle as she desired to forget everything. ___________________ Assistant: "Mister Hui, after multiple investigations, we have confirmed that the girl you have been searching for is Selina Gu." _________________ Awakening from her coma after a month later, Selina woke up hearing a familiar voice by her side. Although she couldn't recognize him, her instincts told her he wasn't going to harm her. "Selina! You're awake!" Jason Hui tossed his laptop to the table, ditching the video meeting he was in and hugged her. "Does it hurt anywhere? Are you thirsty? Hungry? I'll go get a doctor!" He spat out countless questions, confusing her greatly. ________________ Jason held her hands, "It's okay if you don't remember me. As long as I remember our promise, that's all it matters. I won't let anyone hurt you anymore." _________________ "Jason Hui!" "Wife, if you're not happy about something you just have to say it. No need to shout. You'll get a sore throat." Selina pointed to the rubber band on the counter, "I forgot to tie my hair, but my hands are dirty from marinating meat. Do you know how to tie girl's hair?" A minute later, a messy ponytail was created and Selina looked at him with a speechless expression. Noting to himself on his calendar, he typed, "Learn how to do wife's hair." Let's Start From Zero

After some time passed, the door creaked open from the inside. Nurses walked away while the doctor stayed behind to give Jason a lecture.

"Mister Hui, as her guardian, please prevent her from hitting her chest next time. Fortunately, the wound is not bleeding this time. Though the wound didn't reopen, I still need to prescribe two more creams for the injury. One is for day time, and the other is for night time. Here are two more prescriptions for you."

The doctor said with a frown on his face as he handed the prescriptions to Jason.

"Can I go in now?" He took the prescriptions and stacked it on top of the other ones he had received earlier.

"You could go in now. Just remember my advice to not let her make any large movements. For the time being, her wound needs to be your top priority. Even when she sleeps, she can't lean on her injured side. Understand?"

"Yes." Jason's eyes weren't even looking at the doctor's direction. It wasn't difficult for the doctor to guess what he wanted to do the most. Sighing, he stepped aside and gave Jason a nod. As soon as his path was cleared, he rushed inside like a marathon runner reaching the finish line.

Selina was sitting on the bed with her back against two soft pillows when Jason entered. Catching sight of the familiar figure approaching from a distance, she smiled. "You're here."

"How are you feeling now? Is it still painful?" He sat stiffly on the chair while his eyes were fully fixated on her expression; scanning for the slightest hint of pain.

"You don't have to be so stiff. I'm feeling fine. Didn't the doctor tell you my wound didn't reopen? I just hit my chest with too much strength earlier." Though he didn't say it, it was obvious that he was self-blaming himself for what happened earlier. His shoulders were tensed while his back remained straight as a ruler; making him look like the one who needs the most comfort.

Seconds became minutes and the silence started worrying her. She had many words she wanted to say, but no words were willing to come out. The drought in her throat was like a desert with nothing but sand and hot air. As if sand particles had entered her throat and hot air circulated through her lungs, she started coughing.

She reached out to the water pitcher to find Jason already in the midst of pouring her a glass of water. While gently stroking her neck in a bobbing manner, she took small sips from the glass to avoid choking. Once she had finished drinking one glass of water, he immediately replaced the empty glass in her hand with another filled glass.

Smiling, she took the second glass of fluids at her own pace until her throat stopped itching. "Thanks. I'm not thirsty anymore."

He nodded and quickly placed the pitcher back to its original position. "Are you sure you don't need me to get the doctor?"

"I'm fine! The doctor told me earlier that it's normal for people who got out of comas to have dry throats. I just need to drink more fluids. Don't have to worry too much about it." She waved her hands in a flapping fish tail movement.

"Okay." He agreed and went back to his seat. This time, his body was more relaxed than before as he slouched on the chair.

"So, what is your answer?" She asked.

"Answer?" It took him a minute to understand her meaning.

"Ah! You mean being friends first and getting to know each other?" He stood up with a cheery smile.

"Pffft, finally! I thought I had to repeat myself for you to remember." She laughed heartily at his child-like reaction. He looked like a child going to the amusement park for the first time and seeing a whole new excitement he had never experienced before.

"Sure. It makes sense to start from zero." He smiled as he gave his response.

"Just like that? That easy for you to accept my idea?" She thought it would take more to convince him, but he took it way better than she expected.

"Mm. How hard could it be? Like you said, we've separated for years and all grown up now. Just like how you want to learn about the new me, I also want to know how you are. So, let's be friends first." He extended his hand out to her side.

With a saccharine smile on their faces, they introduced themselves to each other as if it's their first time meeting. "Nice to meet you, I'm Jason Hui."

"Same to you. I'm Selina Gu." As they shook each other's hands, Aaron witnessed the whole scene from the door.

He crossed his arms with a grin on his face. "Not bad, boss. Who gave you the coldest bachelor title in the city? You're the total opposite of being cold when it comes to her. I'm so glad you found her after many years of investigating. But it's so weird how difficult it was to dig up her information. I should check up on this matter."

Quickly taking out his phone, he dialed a private number. Deepening his voice, the jolliness in his tone vanished. "I need you to work on another task. Help me find out if anyone was covering up Selina Gu's tracks from us. It's odd how she lived in the same city, yet nobody ever found her."

The man on the other side of the call replied, "Indeed, we've previously found a few females matching the descriptions we've taken leads on. For some reason, Miss. Gu has never shown up during the investigation."

"Wait, what did you just say? If she never showed up on your list for the investigation, then how did you guys find her?" Aaron's back parted from the wall and straightened up tensely. 'If our investigation team considers itself second in rank, nobody would dare claim the first rank. The resources we have are definitely not easy to trample with. So, how..?'
