26 Continue Investigating

"Sam, I'm asking how you and the rest of the team located and confirmed Miss. Gu's identity as the young girl. Did you hear me?" Aaron kept calm as he repeated the same question again.

Sam answered, "Yes. I'm trying to figure out how to explain it to you."

Aaron continued tapping his feet as he roamed around the hallways; waiting for Sam's response.

Feeling pressured, Sam took a deep breath and short pause prior to his explanation. He replied, "We've been reversing our searches to see if we missed any resources provided, but so far we've found nothing. We found Miss. Gu through one of our targets named Shirley Han. While digging through her background and recent activities, we ended up finding Selina Gu."

Pressing the phone closer to his ears, Aaron furrowed his brow as the man continued speaking. 'Shirley Han again? Why is she everywhere?'

"Shirley Han also matched with the description of being missing for a few weeks when she was younger. When our investigators checked her recent activities and habits, one of them found Selina Gu. Her age matched with our descriptions and that's when we went back to our list."

"Somehow, our lists did not have Selina Gu's name on it even though her age and residential location matched with our requirements. As an investigation team, we never do elimination solely based on descriptions. Even if a single correspondence of a small detail leads us to one person, we will still continue with the search until the very end."

Sam purposely explained to Aaron about their ethics and policies in case he misunderstands their effort for carelessness. He continued speaking while Aaron kept quiet.

"Since we ran into a dead-end again, we decided to look into Selina Gu. Her history was blank like a wiped-out file. Other than basic information such as where she lived, who she lived with, her family and other specific details; nothing else appeared in our search."

Aaron's fingers tightened its grip on his phone as he asked, "How did you guys confirm it was her at the end? Even the most innocent person alive would have more information than what you guys dug out about her."

Sam sighed, "It took us months to find one picture of her from childhood. After making a copy of the picture, we paid a visit to the orphanage where Mister Hui stayed in the past. Finally, we found the retired director after a multiple misleads. Through the ex-director's assistance, we confirmed Miss. Gu's identity. She remembered Miss. Gu and confirmed the details Mister Hui had given to us."

"Of course, we were only around eight-five percent sure since it's been many years since Mister Hui had left the orphanage. But once we talked about the little girl in the picture, the director slipped her tongue and ended up telling more stories about her. The information Mister Hui gave us matched with her words, so we managed to confirm Miss. Gu's identity."

Aaron sat down on an empty seat by the waiting area. After making sure nobody was eavesdropping behind him, he whispered, "Continue with the investigation. Call me when you receive the tiniest clue. We must figure out who is blocking away Selina's information. This person must be powerful enough to make you guys work to this extent."

Sam snickered and cracked his knuckles to the phone's microphone. "Not only will we look for that person, we'll also have him compensate us for the years of torturous adventures we had to go through. Since Miss. Gu has been living in the same city; it would have been much easier for us to find her. Our investigation could have ended at least a year or two earlier."

Buzz

Aaron looked at his screen and saw Jason Hui as the caller ID. "I have an important call to take. Do whatever it takes to find out who the person is and why he or she has been covering up Selina Gu's whereabouts. Let me know the progresses."

Gliding his finger from left to right, he picked up the call. "Yes, boss. What can I assist you with?"

"The doctors need me to stay with Selina during the upcoming examination. I'll give you my credit card, ID and her prescriptions. Help me get the ointments and pills for her." Jason said in a rather gentle tone compared to his deep, powerful voice.

Based on Aaron's experience, Jason would never speak this softly to anyone. Needless to say, his boss was definitely sitting in front of someone whom he can't show off his commanding side to; his possible future mistress, Selina Gu.

"Are you still here?" Jason asked after not receiving a response from him.

"Yes. I will be there shortly." Upon hanging up the call, Aaron shook his head and turned around to walk back to Selina's room. He rubbed the back of his neck and talked to himself.

"Even an iceberg like the boss would show the amiable side of his, huh? The power of loving someone is surely miraculous! Maybe I should find myself... Actually, I'll wait until he marries first..Less trouble. What if he interrupts my date, and I lose all my efforts in one night?"

- Han residence -

Ken crossed his legs and took a sip of coffee. "Bryan took the bait. He thinks we will hand Shirley over. He said he wouldn't protect my company this month until I hand Shirley over."

Across from him sat Anthony Han, the head of Han household and his wife, Tracy Han. The couple revealed an arrogant smirk as they heard the good news from Ken's mouth.

Anthony lit his cigar and smoked it in the spacious living room. He raised his glass of wine and swirled it under the bright lightings in his villa. "Things are going pretty well. Bryan Gu? Hah. Who does he think he is? How dare he targets my daughter just for some bitch sister who died from being a weakling? It's the survival of the fittest rule! Who could he blame?"

Staring into her foldable mirror, Tracy pressed her lips together and blended out her red lipstick. "Exactly. If our Han family is easily provoked and touched by a small potato business man like him, then we wouldn't be one of the influential families."

Shirley skipped down the steps and joined her parents' conversation. She greeted, "Uncle Ken, long time no see. Are you visiting us today?"
