Kelvin POV

Its been over a week since the incident at the canteen, and things between Emma and I had gone for bad to worse. The whole gang can almost see the tension rising between us.

I wish she would give me a chance to apologize again. But its like each time I see an opening to properly apologize, there's always some sort of diversion and boom, the chance slips.

I groaned mentally at how frustrating all this is. Just like Lydia, my sit partner, and Emma's best friend rightly said, I have some serious feelings for Emma and now, I can't even talk to her or rather, she wouldn't even give me a chance too.

Today was sports, try-outs day and if everything went well, maybe I could fix things with Emma and get my name off her 'do-not-talk-to list'.

I was on my way out of the art studio, where I'd been focused on drawing the dream wedding gown. I had seen a few (senior secondary 2) S.S.2 students passing by and they were staring at me like I was a falling angel, I chuckled at them and winked, which caused one of the girls to faint dramatically. I laughed at that, before I walked away, in search of my friend, who I presumed, must be downstairs, in the midst of the crowd that was slowly gathering because of the tryouts.

Emmanuella POV.

Mercy, Lydia and I were downstairs, waiting for the boys and tryouts to begin, while I gave the girls the full gist of what went down that Saturday night.

"Okay, calm down Emma, are you sure it was Kelvin? I mean, there is a 90% chance that it was someone else but because he kinda looks like Kelvin you think its him"

"Oh Mercy, why so naive, of course, its Kelvin, I'd recognize him anywhere"

"Umm dur!!!!, no one can pull off that Greek god look. "

"He is not a Greek god Lydia!! Stop calling him that, before you make his ego twice the size of this school! "

"Okay, just saying"

"Besides, even if it wasn't Kelvin, at least the person apologized right?"

When Mercy said this, it caused me to respond a little harsher than intended, but Lydia scolded me anyway.

"An apology? Please that isn't going to get rid of the stain on my favorite outfits Mercy! "

" hey hey, its just an outfit, no need to get all cranky and mad at Mercy for that, so calm your titties, babe, you can get another one. "

I groaned at her before I apologized to Mercy who wasn't really offended. Few seconds later the boys came to join us and we exchanged pleasantries. Before we engaged in another conversation, we made our way to where all our sporting things were. After awhile, Faruq said,

"So Emma, what would you be trying out for? "

"Basketball, what about you? "

"Same, its just that you're not exactly a 6 footer so I don't... "

"Urr, you're not a 6 footer either and yet, here we are. "

The guys laughed at my smart comeback before patting Faruq on the shoulder. In other to divert the attention from Faruq, I decided to ask the rest what they we're trying out for.

"Abeg jare, stop laughing We already know Chigozie is a cheetah on the track, which one are you trying out for Ebuka"

"Me, I can't kill myself oo, I know I'm short so I'll just stick to warming the bench and cheering you guys on"

"Ooh shoor, see your life outside "

Lydia responded to his statement but Ebuka turned the table around to face her as he asked.

"you, you still have mouth to talk, me I know where I belong, you where do you belong? "

"Isn't it obvious I'm a born basketball player but I've decided to spread out, so I'm going for athletics try out. How about you Mercy?"

"Oh umm, I guess swimming is fine "

I was going to encourage Mercy, since this is the very first time she'd try out. Sadly, I couldn't, because I was caught short by that familiar chocolate rich bass voice that belongs to none other than Kelvin. He stood close to me, too close for comfort as he said

"Hey guys, what did I miss? "

I stepped away wanting to put as much distance as possible away form him. He and the guys noticed this but chose not to make it a subject of conversation, as they all exchanged pleasantries, then Faruq asked,

"So,Kelvin what are you trying out for"

"Um, swimming. "

"I thought you said you were going for basketball, since you said you were pretty good at it"

Lydia, who was curious as to why he chose swimming, asked. I couldn't care less, as long as he stays away from me.

"Urr yeah, I am good at basketball. Fantastic actually but I enjoy swimming and since I'm pretty much good at it, I thought, hey why not. "

"Hmph show off. "

I whispered, but it was loud enough for everyone to hear and even though he knew what I said he still wanted me to repeat myself as he said.

"Come again, say what?? I'm sorry I couldn't quite hear what you were saying over the jealousy you're exhibiting. "

I glared at him, as the tension between us was thick enough to slice through. I noticed from the corner of my eye, that Lydia was about to say something but was interrupted by an unfriendly but yet familiar voice.

...VICTORIA!! ...

THE FEMALE DAREDEVIL

I groaned out loud, she interrupted in her overly exaggerated high pitched voice. Knowing her presence could only mean trouble, I turned around to fully face her with my arms crossed. A perfectly raised brow and a questioning look on my face, I asked,

"What??? "

She gave me a nasty scowl, and ignored my existence to address Kelvin, who was few centimeters behind me. Flipping her none existent hair to the back, she said

" hey, pretty boy, I just couldn't help over hear the way you shaded the 'Nerd queen' over here. She chuckled evilly, as she said Nice one, you know maybe you could join my team, the winning team. This so wanna be losers are like so last season. "

"Urrrrrh. "

"Wrong answer! Anyway, I'm only one call away, In case you change your mind ... Have fun loosing losers hahahaha"

She laughed evilly winked at kelvin before she left me in an even worse state of mind, than I already was. Kelvin detected my discomfort and tried to comfort me but I only walked away from him, not wanting to even breath the same air as him. From where I stood waiting, I could hear them faintly talk about me as Mercy said in her usual timid voice, whenever I wasn't there

" H..... hey, its gonna be okay, y... you just have to f... Fix whatever is broken between you two"

"Yeah, and fast because, I for one, cannot really take the awkward silence at our lunch table any more"

That was Lydia using her Africa american accent and I'd know that accent anywhere. Kelvin's responded to her statement and I started to feel sad for him. But I shook it of, as I remembered everything I went through 4years ago... Hell no, I wasn't going to fall for it again not now, not ever.

"I want to, guys. I really do but... How? She wouldn't even spare me a glance let alone talk to me"

The blowing of the whistle brought us all back to reality, we scattered, going to our various tryout sessions, to change into something other than our uniforms, which was our sporting gears, for each of the sports we were tried.
