Chapter 16- The threat

It's been two months after the lunch date. Everyone's back to their normal lives but somethings never change - feelings and Emotions.

Joshua has become an emotional.wreck. He could not keep his thoughts away from Elizabeth. He agreed to work with the design team at Orbit incorporations thinking he would at least have a chance of just seeing her, but it felt like she was just not there.

It was his last day on the project at Orbit incorporations and he was on his way out to his car at the parking space when he saw the familiar figure standing some metres away from him, she was on the phone and had her back turned to the elevator.

Joshua took slow steps towards her and stopped suddenly when he heard her conversation.

"Are you threatening me now? You of all people should know threats are not my thing, if you had gotten your job done, you won't be on the other side threatening me. Oh and also, I will be at the French restaurant again soon, 6pm, let's see how much of a gut you have, bastard!"

With that she turned and walked to her car. Joshua ducked behind a car in the parking space and watched as she got in her car and drove off.

"Is she in some sort of trouble?" He couldn't help but ask himself thoughtfully. " I need to do something, cant just let it slide."

He checked his wrist watch, the time is 5pm, he still has some time.. he retrieved his phone from his suit pocket and texted Xavier.

"Hey Xav,

meet me at the cafe beside the French restaurant in 30 minutes please, I think Elizabeth might be in danger.

I got in my car and drove off.

In less than 30 minutes I was at the cafe which was just beside the restaurant, one can see every activity going on in the restaurant from where I'm sitting waiting for Xavier who is annoyingly late...but looking at my watch again.i got here 10 minutes early.

"Hey man, what's up?"

"You are late Xav.".

",No I'm.not, you said thirty minutes, I got here in 25". He answered as he took his seat beside me. "What's up with Elizabeth?"

"I think she might be in danger"

"Danger? What do you mean?"

"I overhead her on phone, I think someone is threatening her "

"Ohh...w..w...wait..wait...threats? Why would someone threaten the ice queen?

"I'm serios Xav, she specifically told the person she will be at the restaurant by 6, as she wants to see how much of a gut the person is"

"S..so..you think whoever it is will also come to this public place to threaten or harm her?"

"Who knows man...just what I heard and I can't just not do anything".Joshua said in frustration.

"Okay ..I get you..just calm down...let's wait and see"

Both of them sat at the table, each engrossed in their own thoughts. Some minutes later, Joshua spotted Elizabeth's car as she pulled up in front of the restaurant. As elegant as ever, she stepped out and walked into the restaurant, taking her seat at their favorite table. Both guys turned their attention to the next building as they watch her order some food.

Some minutes later, Alisha sauntered in, breathless as she said something to her in anger and took her seat opposite her.

"What do you think is happening?" Xavier asked looking at the ladies on the other side.

"I don't know man...I clearly heard her tone on the phone, she couldn't possibly be addressing Alisha as 'bastard' on the phone"

"Of course not"

They watched as Alisha whose back was to them picked the glass of water before Elizabeth and drank it. .

"I'm going in there Xav"...Joshua said abruptly, getting on his feet.

"What??..no no no man ..wait...you can't just barge in on them like that"

"It's a public place Xav,I'm hungry ..I want to eat"

"Josh .that's your feelings talking man...I hope you don't get hurt in this" Xavier said with concern as they both walked out of the cafe towards the restaurant.

They both walked to another table ignoring the ladies, having their sides to their table but Joshua can still see their reflection from his side of the glass.

"I don't understand what we are doing here Josh"

"We want to eat"

"Seriously? Are you being serious right now?"

"Yes Xav, IAM..."

" No you are not man...you need to stop your obsession with this lady Josh..it's not healthy for you"

"Stop Xav.. please...she's just some steps away from us" Joshua half whispered, his voice strained.

Just then, a waitress walked up to them.

"Can we have our orders packed to go please?" Xav told the waitress politely.

"Of course, coming right up" she said with a smile and left.

"See man. I..."

"Stop Xav...please...we will talk about this when we get home" Joshua said cutting him short.

Just then his gaze shifted to the glass then he noticed their seat was empty. He turned swiftly and was in time to see both ladies getting into Elizabeth's car.

The waitress cane back with their order and both stood at the same time to leave.

"See you at home" Xav said as they both walked to their cars.

"Yeaà..see you".

JOSHUA'S POV.

I pulled into the highway amidst torrent of emotions. I can't understand what IAM feeling anymore.i don't get what Elizabeth is doing to me even without her doing anything.

I drove for 30 minutes outside of town and turned into the road leading to the park. It's getting dark by now and the park is deserted, but I really needed that alone time.

I parked my car a few metres away and walked into the park, easily crossing over the low fence. With my hands in my pocket, I walked around for a while till I got to a chair and sat down.

I have a lot of things going through my head all at the same time and IAM having a hard time sorting through them.

I relaxed my back on the chair and looked up at the shinning stars, so beautiful. Every where was silent till I heard the silent sound.

IAM not alone..someone is somewhere around where Iam....sobbing. I heard the sound again..someone crying silently ..then sniffing. I turned around on the chair, scanning my enviroment...

Then I saw her, sitting on another chair in the middle of the park,her back to me, her hair looks dishevelled like she's run her hands through it roughly a few times.

I wanted to get up and talk to her...but just like me..I felt she needed her space alone. But I could not take my eyes off her. I watched as her shoulders rise and fall slowly...her body shaking silently as the sobs rocked through her, I felt my heart breaking painfully.

The Ice Queen is here, crying...so vulnerable and alone. I couldn't help but wonder what made her cry this much. Each sniffing sound she makes breaks my heart into a million pieces.

Some minutes later, she cleaned her face with an handkerchief and stood up, she picked her bag on the chair beside her and walked off in the opposite direction.

I stood and followed her at a safe distance, watching her back as she took slow steps towards her car parked some few metres away.

I watched as she got in her car and after a few minutes, drove away. I turned and walked to my car with a heavy feeling in my heart, wondering why she's so sad and unhappy.
