A Violent Monk

Golden light burst out of Daniel's soul body, which was now gold in color, forming some sort of barrier around him, as he felt himself falling at blinding speed, whilst everything within his view kept magnifying rapidly.

But that was until he saw the figure of what seemed to be the body of a handsome little kid lying on the ground with a bleeding forehead.

Then just as he was about to fall into this little kid, he saw a purple-colored soul going after the same kid.

Though he knew nothing about mystical arts, Daniel was very certain [for some strange reasons] that it would be severely problematic if the soul claimed the body of the kid before him.

Unfortunately, the purple-colored soul was much closer, and before he knew it, the soul had entered the kid's body, but strangely, nothing happened; the kid didn't move, blink or even twitch; he simply lay there just like before.

'I thought reincarnation was straightforward; why do I have to face problems after problems?!' Daniel thought to himself in anger.

'Perhaps, this is the result of entering a red portal.'

The monk knew Daniel already knew the answer but still decided to say it just to make Daniel accept his fate quickly as it would help him move on quicker and focus on the new challenges his new life was about to throw at him.

Daniel's golden soul dove straight into the kid's body and before he could even orientate himself properly with his new body, he suddenly realized that he couldn't sense the purple-colored soul's presence.

[Hehe Hehe... The heavens must have blessed me with unlimited luck; they actually gifted me with such a powerful soul to absorb.]

An eerie and husky laughter like that of a ghost resonated within Daniel's mind.

[Who are you?!] Daniel's face distorted in alarm.

[You actually dare to snatch away the body that this patriarch had been dying to possess. Die!]

The tone of the purple soul suddenly made a U-turn as it revealed a cruel and furious tinge. An enraged roar tore through Daniel's mind as he suddenly felt a sharp pain sting his consciousness.

The pain reached the depths of his very soul, and it made him spasm like someone being jolted by a million giga-watts of electricity.

Meanwhile, within Daniel's mindscape, an old monk who had been previously sitting in a meditative posture with three objects revolving around him suddenly snapped his eyes open.

The moment he did so, a ripple of mental energy washed over Daniel's soul, mending the damage he had received whilst blasting the purple soul out of the kid's body.

[Would you mind letting me take over for a minute? I'll help you deal with the problem in a way that it will benefit you.] The monk asked as Daniel immediately nodded his head.

Daniel knew he was very much weaker than the purple soul, and since the old monk had kept his word about doing him no harm, he was willing to sit back and watch the old monk deal with the old ghost; especially now, that a benefit attached to it.

[You actually dare to attack the chosen one of Shangri La under the watch of his guardian; Hmph, now that you are here, you can serve as nourishment for his soul.]

The monk spoke to the purple soul with a voice that was so casual that it felt somewhat disrespectful and demeaning.

One palm strike; just one palm strike; that was all it took for the monk to blast the purple soul's body out of the kid's body as the Old Monk controlled Daniel's soul out of the kid's body.

Daniel's stiffened in fright at the powerful technique the old monk just launched because despite having a far weaker soul power than the purple soul, the attack had revealed a strength that was more than triple in power to that which the purple soul had used to attack him earlier.

[This is impossible! You hateful monk, how did you manage to follow your disciple in death and through reincarnation?!] The purple soul blurted in fear.

The impact he felt from that attack was enough to blur his consciousness for a few seconds; on this continent he found himself, he knew the number of people who were capable of such a feat, and they could be counted on one of his hands.

[Firstly, you have no idea what's possible.]

[Secondly, you're not worthy of standing in my presence not to talk of questioning me.] The old monk answered with a very condescending tone.

[I still have a lot to do, so I can't waste my time with you; having said that, you can now leave your puny life behind!] The monk added as his tone began to drip with violent intent.

Daniel's soul body then began to suddenly pulse with immense power; it was as if the monk was gathering all the energy within his soul to power a single ultimate attack.

[Tch, there's only one thing that is worse than facing a berserk demon beast, and that is fighting a violent monk. I'm out of here!] The purple soul blurted as he made a dash for it.

[Hmph; you foul creature, you can kiss your false revival goodbye!] The monk added as he sent the same palm strike toward the fleeing purple soul once again.

Boom!

This time, the palm strike phased through the soul and collided with something within it that Daniel couldn't surmise; however, he noticed a shockwave ripple out from within the soul, and the dying screams of the purple soul thereafter.

Daniel observed the hovering soul that had a dead expression on its face and was unmoving.

[What happened to him?] He asked.

[The soul of every being powers its thoughts, emotions, and will; these three traits are what are referred to as the Consciousness.] The monk lectured.

[Once you kill a soul, you have destroyed the consciousness within it as well; but there is a technique I know that can wipe off any of the three traits without harming the soul in any way.] The Old Monk added smugly.
