Chapter 40

"You know.. It took a lot of work to earn you that title as a devil.. How about I show you a real one?" Logan muttered out as he raised his palm in front of him.

A red flame suddenly burst forth from the palm of his hand like a ball of fire. As Logan lunged his body forward after Jade he repeatedly threw balls of fire that scorched the earth all around where they landed. Jade's movements were quick but just barely enough to dodge each ball of flame. The blazing hot flames left sparks of fire burning away at the grass everywhere as the blackened earth it burnt caused the terrain to look as though death had descended upon the world.

The heat was enough to cause Jade to sweat as he kept repeatedly dodging. His razor blade like nails swinging every so often in attempt to slice at Logan but the man was too quick for him. After several attacks and swings for Logan he finally ended up landing a cut on the man's side. Blood splattered everywhere as Logan let out a loud grunt while gritting his teeth together amidst the fury and pain he felt.

Logan's body erupted in a blazing fire that consumed his entire form. His bat like wings spread wide. His eyes blackening as he stared Jade down where he stood amidst the blazing inferno. The flames seemed to whirl around him like a wild tornado. It was not clear to anyone who could see it if the man had any sanity left among him to let loose something so wild on the land. His chest heaved in and out with heavy breaths like a wild beast.

"Are you crazy?! You're going to burn the whole mountain down!" Jade shouted over the roaring of the flames as they left off a black smog into the air.

"Really? Then I'll make sure your burnt down with it!" Logan spat back as he stretched out his arm sending waves of fire like he was using a flamethrower. All around him as he spun about trying to hit Jade was burnt to ash.

The flames that sparked and landed on the trees began to spread the blazing fire among the mountain. It did not take long before the entire area was covered in smoke as trees caught fire one after another. Even Silvester who had been fighting Capricorn paused in the middle of his fight in order to turn and look at Logan. Silvester did not mind hunting and killing and found it rather pleasing but the entire mountain was being burnt to ash in front of him and it put the gateway to the Void at risk.

"Crazy bastard you're going to burn everyone including yourself to death!" Silvester shouted over the flames at Logan in attempt for him to snap out of it.

No matter what others shouted at him Logan's mind was already lost. He could no longer think clearly and stood there laughing like a mad man. The rage in his heart was already boiling over the top as he set fire to everything in the area. Everyone had to be careful where they stepped or the fire would consume them all. Noel had a hard time breathing through all the smoke and heat. The blue scarf that he kept around his neck was being held over his face in order to slow the intake from the flames.

Beating his black wing against the air as hard as he could Jade was able to keep a clear path among the smoke and blazing inferno. The calico on his shoulder still held on firm to his shoulder as it covered its face under the black over shirt that he wore to protect itself from any smoke that managed to reach them. Jade slowly worked his movements towards Logan as he fought the fury of the inferno. As the two of them became closer to each other Logan's cold gaze felt like he was facing a real devil. Though he was not one he was surely close to it in Jade's eyes.

As Logan exhaled heavily his hand shot up straight towards the direction of Jade's head. Launching himself from the ground as hard as he could Jade's body was sent flying in Logan's direction. Both of his hands folded in front of him as his distance from Logan narrowed, his single black wing spread wide behind him in the air as he came downward. As he swept both of his hands across the air in front of him, coming down against Logan's body, the razor blade like nails of Jade's sliced the man's body open. Blood soaking the earth, Logan's head tilted back as a deafening roar sounded from his throat causing the very air to shudder.

Jade quickly removed himself from the close range of Logan as the fire surrounding him raged wildly before dissipating. Slowly Logan's body fell to his knees against the ground. His blood was pouring from the deep cuts throughout his body where the nails at sliced him. Many of his vital points had been sliced deep causing him to grow weak quickly. The sounds of Jade approaching him could be faintly heard as his weakened gaze turned slightly to see him staring him down.

"Even in death," Logan laughed even as he could feel his life fading there on his knees before the very man he wanted to kneel to him. He felt it was ironic and purely laughable. "you will always belong to me."

"I was never yours from the start." Jade responded back.

Logan could not help but smirk at those words as the light in his eyes faded to dim. His body falling to the side on the scorched ground. There in the center of a scorched blank clearing the man that Jade had gained his very foothold in this world from had fallen to his hand. If there was a sense of irony in life perhaps it truly would be that moment that everything about Logan's death felt it. Jade could not help but feel sorry for the man in a way because he wondered if something had pushed the man to become so damaged and far gone. If he had not met Noel he wondered if he would have lost himself just as much as Logan had.
