Chapter 28

Somewhere across the city..

Silvester stood in an office looking through a pile of records that he had been ordered to look for; records pertaining to Jade's origins. As hard as he looked through them, however, he could not find any real information that was useful for him to bring back to Logan. It felt as though someone had already found and gone through anything that had to do with Jade's existence. He could feel the slight presence of someone else in the building standing just outside the door to the room that he had left cracked open.

"Are you interfering with Logan's work? Or just trying to annoy me personally?" Silvester's icy cold gaze swept across the room towards the doorway. The soft sound of footsteps could be heard as the shadowy figure of the man became clearer and clearer until the moonlight cast upon the golden hair of the man, Capricorn.

"What pleasure would a poor little leopard like myself get from interfering with Logan and yourself?" Capricorn smirked slightly. His blue eyes were dead set on Silvester's figure to ensure the man did not try anything. There was no way Capricorn would win in a head on collision with the brute but he was not one to be taken out easily without a fight.

"Logan's not here to stop me. If I wanted to I could rip you to shreds and find out for myself if you're stepping in our way." Silvester's long white hair swung into the air behind him as his body flung forward at Capricorn. It was impossible for his movements to be tracked until his figure was stopped dead in his tracks in front of Capricorn just inches from his face. Both of them had their eyes dead locked on each other's gaze in silence as if Silvester was testing his reactions.

Capricorn did not waver from where he stood. Remaining where he stood his gaze held strong on the man as if he did not care in the least how he was being portrayed. He had never cared for Silvester in the slightest but he was not ignorant enough to think that the man would not be able to read his movements if he tried to react. There was no telling how quickly he would die if he pushed for a head on fight. Having his own motives for getting involved he was not ready to toss his own life away but for the truth that he held he was willing to fight to his death to protect it.

"My loyalty is to serve Logan, not you. After all.. we're all demi humans trying to survive in this city among those mortal humans, " A slight purring sound resounded from Capricorn's throat as he leaned slightly closer. "You on the other hand don't need Logan. You're in this city purely by choice."

"You know who he really is?" Silvester's eyes widened as he realized Capricorn was trying to derail him from finding the truth.

"Even if I knew the truth behind Jade's identity I would never tell you." Capricorn slowly turned to walk away. His figure slowly retreating from the room in front of Silvester who was lost in a hurdle of confusion and questions. A rage slowly boiling over inside the man as his body shook in irritation causing his long white hair to wave about in the air against his shoulders and chest.

"Logan wants answers.. If I have to get them by force from you I will, Capricorn." A slight laugh came from Silvester as he considered shredding the man apart piece by piece.

"Beautiful sentiment coming from one of Logan's dogs." Capricorn clicked his tongue against his teeth.

"If I'm a dog what does that make you? A dog that's biting the hand that feeds it!" Silvester spat back his insult finding the man to come off a bit arrogant.

"I'm warning you now, Silvester. Even if you kill me he will never be someone you have the right to go against. If he is killed you'll be starting a war on the city. You and Logan both need not to forget there are still others above you."

"I'm guessing someone planted you under Logan.. Who was it?" Silvester grit his teeth as he considered his options. If Capricorn really did work for someone higher than Logan it was obvious that Jade's real identity was not one that simple.

"You're not qualified to know.. Just know that if you try to harm him again while I'm here in this city you'll have to go through me first. At the cost of my own life."

"Does that man even know who you are? And yet you're willing to throw away your life for simply safe guarding his identity?" Silvester found the idea almost laughable.

"Of course not," Capricorn smirked. "but unlike you I have standards to live up to."

Capricorn slowly left the room as he could hear Silvester smashing things in the room from behind him out of anger. It was obvious that he wanted to kill him in order to get the information but it was a matter of how Silvester weighed his options. He hoped that Silvester would weigh the fact that he had to follow Logan's orders and without his permission was not allowed to kill him. If it came down to his temperament, however, he knew that in a matter of moments Silvester could come flying out of nowhere to attack him regardless so he kept himself alert.

At the cost of my life.. I will do my best to ensure your safety until the day comes you no longer need me or my life is lost in duty for you.. Capricorn's figure quickly retreated from the building as fast as he could. His sense of smell and hearing was of higher quality than most due to his demi form being that of a leopard. Most could not keep track of his movements with their own eyes unless they were a demi of equal or higher standing then himself. Sounds of Silvester following him from a distance were beginning to flood into his ears as the man was gaining on his trail so he did his best to increase his speed.

Dodging in and out of buildings silently he did his best to loose the man tailing him but it was no use at the rate he was escaping it would take him all night to evade Silvester's aggressive approach to catch him. There was only one thing he could think of to get away and he knew it was going to be a risk but it was one he had to take. He had to locate and put himself in the same vicinity as Jade where he knew Silvester was not allowed to go.
